JBMasterAngler
Looks like it's gonna happen. Colorado already jumped to the pac 10. For the most part, I'm against this expansion stuff, but I think nebraska is a nice fit with the big ten...should set up a good rivalry with iowa. Plus I'd rather see the huskers in a BCS game every year (because they will dominate this conference) instead of ohio state. It's gonna be an extra slap in the face to the gophers too when we lose to nebraska every year...polini should've been our coach instead of punky brewster. mrklean
just another team to beat the gophs if you ask me
so haaad
I think this is a good move. Adding one team allows the Big 10 to have 12 teams total and set up the conference like the SEC. Then they can have west and east brackets and ultimately have a conference championship. I wonder if they'll change the name to something like the Upper Midwest Conference.Time will tell, but I don't see Nebraska as being a future powerhouse as they were back in the 80's and 90's. Sure they might put out a good team every once in awhile, but I don't see them dominating this conference year after year.
jeffreyd
You mean the PAC 16? that is what it sounds like is going to end up with both hawaii schools coming to the pac. time to give usc a run for their money
toughguy
Not so fast. It looks like the big10 may be the conference moving to 16 not the Pac 10. Texas and Texas AM have petitioned the Big 10 to join. Add two of these: Notre Dame, Missouri, IA State, Kansas, Pitt to get to 14. What a sweet confernce!! How will my maroon and gold ever win a game again? Scott M
Get Mizzou and IA State and keep it region specific (if you can stomach Penn State already)
LMITOUT
How will my maroon and gold ever win a game again? According to Sporting News, who ranked the Gophers as the 98th best team in the country for the upcoming season, they won't.
zepman
Get Mizzou and IA State and keep it region specific (if you can stomach Penn State already) Exactly!
JBMasterAngler
Unfortunately you can throw the regional stuff out the window Money is the only driving force behind these moves...which is why the big ten was looking at syracuse and/or rutgers to join as well. Missouri would be a good fit for the big ten as well...which should be renamed the "big north". If the big 12 and big east are dismantled and we have super conferences now, I wonder how they'll do the bowl games.
toughguy
I wonder how they'll do the bowl games. hopefully this is the kick in the pants they need to start a new system and go to a 8 or 16 team tourney. Keep the bowl names and locations but just turn them into games in the tourney. It would be HUGE
goblueM
i think they're gonna stay at 12 teamstexas am and texas are headed to the pac 10, they won't join the big ten
echotrail
With Neb and maybe other quality teams joining the Big 10 the gophers will never get to play in another Insight Bowl. Oh well, it will be one less loss on the season end total. Here's and idea: Maybe the Gophers and few other teams should drop out of the Big Ten and start their own conference...maybe the "Little 6". jeffreyd
boise st announced they are going to the mountain west in 2011 so they can play for titles i guess instead of getting ram rodded each year.

Interesting concept. Maybe MN, UND, NDSU, SDSU, and UNI could form a conference. Who knows, every 6-7 years the U of M could actually win a conference title. jeffreyd
or just play 6 or 8 man ball and start that league
jeffreyd
but the weather is nice during the insight bowl isnt it?
toughguy
Looks like Texas, TX AM, Oklahoma and OSU are going to follow CO to the PAC10. I'd like to see Kansas and IA State follow Nebraska to the Big 10.
goblueM
would have been interesting to have Boise State bolt to the Big
SneakAttack
I can see it now when "Husker Nation" invades the TCF Bank stadium, Brewster will retitle "Gopher Nation" to "Gopher Neighborhood"
JBMasterAngler
I feel bad for kansas, kansas state, and iowa state...nobody wants them Missouri is kinda' unwanted too, but I think the big ten will take them because it'll be good for illinois and nebraska. Maybe kansas and kansas state can join the mountain west and complete the 12 team total. Although that's kind've a slap in the face to the name of the conference...mountain west...kansas is probably the flattest area of land on the planet! All this expansion stuff is making notre dame a little edgy too. They're a little more open to the idea of joining the big ten now.
echotrail
Geez! If Notre Dame joins the Big Ten also the closest the Gophers will ever get to bowl atmosphere will be homecoming.
JBMasterAngler
Maybe the gophers could transfer to the WAC and take boise state's place...at least then we might finish 3rd in the conference and make a bowl game occasionally
ozzie
maybe this will help the recruiting for the Gophs and they might get lucky and get a few better recruits and win a couple games.....who knows but I like that Nebraska is in the Big Ten (12) and if K STATE and Kansas are a both or neither I say neither but if we can get them seperated I say add Kansas and Missouri.....I would like to see Notre Dame but I don't think they will but if they did get added then I hope the next two are Notre Dame and Kansas or Missouri.....Kansas would give the Gophs a W in football (maybe) and they would be great for the Basketball compitition
