Umbrellas at Target Field

Why are people so clueless to others around them and feel the need to open up their umbrellas so the person behind them can't see? It started to sprinkle last night and the umbrella's came out and when the attendant asked people to put them away they started to complain.....I had to speak up and let them know thatonce they put up there umbrella's they blocked a good portion of the field from the people behind them and yet some continued to complain!!! I got so annoyed by them that I just got out of my seat after the first inning and walked around the stadium the rest of the game.....I sure hope for other sake that they will just ban umbrellas from the field all together!!!! They do make things such as ponchos and rain gear to keep a person dry...........After that whole ordeal though I walked all around watching the game from different perches around the ball park and was really impressed that you had a great view all over the stadium and what a good game to watch!!!! I won't be back anytime soon but it was a great place to watch a ball game......

I wouldn't think it would be bad if they had small clear umbrella's that they kept close to the head, but teaching people that could be impossible. Too much rain and they stop the game, wouldn't have to worry about it then frown

That's what I did for the 1st Boston Game OZZIE. Had some great seats in all area's of the Park including front row behind the Bo-Sox bench.

I thought they had a limit on umbrella size but it's tough to enforce with so many people I guess.

We had umbrellas and a circle me Bert sign in front of us last night. The sign went up after the last out and didn't come down till the first pitch of the next at bat. They held it up so their heads were below it. If they are going to allow umbrellas and these signs they should restrict them to areas behind the seats in the concourse area.

yeah I agree Splake...they want to make it fun for everyone but with one person enjoying themselves their is another person not enjoying it with the signs and umbrellas.....even with the clear plastic umbrellas it is still obstructing the view as I am not paying to watch the game through a pipece of plastic!!! The lady infront of me had her umbrella (and it was smaller) right tight to her head but it still made it so I couldn't see the right fielder..........

Pier- the attendant said that they don't allow umbrellas or that is what his boss told him but then came back and said the people in the back row could use them. I still don't agree with that as a perk and highlight ot this park is that you are able to watch the game from all around the concourse and with an umbrella up in the back row that would completely block that area.......it has to be an all or nothing type of deal and in this case the Target Field and Twins need to step up and ban umbrellas!!!

Oz, maybe you just need better seats, so you're looking "out" not "down".

I'm just kidding, trying to have some fun, but next thing you know we're going to be banning all sorts of things.

I too saw plenty of umbrellas last night. What in the hell is somebody thinking opening an umbrella with people behind them!?

I was annoyed last night because when I finally got to our seats there are some idiots sitting in them. Now I don't blame somebody for moving seats but at least scope out the section for a few innings and make darn sure that nobody else is sitting there. I'm sure Target Field and the Twins would disagree, but that's just my opinion Anyways, these clowns were there at 7:10 when we tried to sit down. That in itself I can get over, but then the guy a few rows back starts hollering for us all to sit down and quit blocking his view! Well sir, I would gladly be sitting down right now if these idiots didn't try to steal my 4 seats! Yell at them, make that walk of shame memorable! Understand that I'm simply trying to get to my seat and yes I did wait until the batter was finished. Too bad it took over a minute for these fools to grab there belongings and shamefully walk away, meanwhile making everybody else in the row stand up so they could get back through.

I think the general MLB rule is umbrellas are allowed as long as they don't hinder the view of other patrons.

EDIT!

I see some of the Parks like Fenway only allow them during official Rain delays!

At Nationals games they must be SMALL umbrellas.

tsand-

Makes you wonder if someone's ticket was fake.....

Could be...I know mine weren't because I received them from a friend/season ticket owner.

Either way, between the umbrellas and people sitting in the wrong seats it gets frustrating at time. I realize we're all out to have a good time, but lets not make it any harder on our fellow peers as is necessary, right?

Just sit in the correct seat and leave the umbrellas in a car.

Tip of the week: Ponchos can be had for $.99 at the big box stores.

It would make sense though to have an umbrella if there is a rain delay, correct? I hate ponchos unless absolutely necessary.

So if your sitting in your seat with an umbrella over your head while it's raining, where do people think the water is going?

Those seats are not that big. It would have to be going into someone else s space. I know I would not appreciate that.

What a great place to watch a ball game.

I never thought of that, but good point. I wouldn't like it either. Wear a Poncho or umbrella's allowed during rain delays only!

I USED to watch WWE (when it was WWF) every monday and thursday nights. You know those signs the fans bring in and hold up? One night a guy had a sign that read:

THE PERSON BEHIND ME CAN'T SEE

It was funny then and it still cracks me up when I think of it now.

I was in attendance last night as well. The folks in front of me brought two umbrellas. During a base hit when the rain was coming down one of them stood up and almost poked my eye out with the thing. As others have said, these seats are close together and it's amazing how clueless some fans really are to those around them.

Hopefully as the initial "Wow, were watching the Twins outdoors" thing wears off, people will wise up and realize that others are there to watch the game as well.

I was there last night as well. A couple pulled an umbrella out. I said, "are you kidding me, put the umbrella down" in a stern voice. I got a bunch of cheers, they took it down and it never came back out. If you dont like it, speak up.

lets hope it rains on bat night next time that could be interesting laugh

That would make ESPN for sure! "And our top story, at Target Field tonight, 300 people with umbrellas were beaten to death by 30,000 people with Joe Mauer MVP bats. Related to that, a Tiger's fan with an umbrella accidentally rounded third too far and was tagged out and then beaten to death by Nick Punto while half-heartedly trying to run home." smile

Exactly what I would do. Spending that amount of money for the game and fighting to see around an umbrella? I'd tell them that they should have stayed home and watch the game on TV if they don't like the rain. Ohhh! I'm melting. Please .....
