zepman
Read an article that says Ray Edwards was not very pleased with the pick of Griffen...leverage back to the Vikes as far as contract goes. Ha!
FISHINGURU
I'm not to sure about our first pick, maybe he'll be good in our system but otherwise he gets owned. I think we could of done better with that pick.I love the Gerhart pick he's gonna be mean forsure. Like the Griffin pick as well, if he plays to his potential on our line he could be a steal of the draft type player. Let 1 game wonder Edwards cry all he wants. We'll have to see how Webb, the LB's, and the O-line guy pans out...a successful draft is getting a stud or two and a few decent guys, even if they are special teamers. pikestabber
What is up with Edwards? I thought I heard the Vikes were shopping him around but they couldn't because he didn't sign offer sheet? Is there a problem with he and the Vikes? The Vikes are certainly happy with Edward's play, that is why they placed a first round tender on him. If he was traded, a team would have to give up a first round pick in the process, which is why he is still in place. I would be surprised if he isn't in purple come September. He just wants more money than they feel he is worth or can afford. He said he will sit out until the June 15th deadline, but nobody thus far would part with a first round pick to get him, although he did have plenty of interest (Saints, Eagles). As of now, he is handcuffed...if he signs, he makes 2.5 million this season (plenty of cash, IMO, but not what he would get if he was an UFA with no strings). If he doesn't sign by June 15th, he makes just 10% more than the league minimum (if what I read was correct, that should be about $698,500 for 4-6 year guys). He will sign his current deal, but do we want that mentality in our locker room? I am here because I have to be?
FISHINGURU
I hope we get rid of him, if he wanted more money he should of played better. He must not be to great if no team in the NFL is willing to give up a 1st round pick for a proven experienced player. Teams would rather gamble. james_walleye
I have mixed feelings about the draft. On the surface it looks like it could have been better. But how can a person argue with how this group has drafted the past couple years? Overall its been pretty impressive.

Same here james_walleye, its hard not to trust these guys after the past three years. Even if they don't hit one out of the park every year that is ok as long as they stay consistent. Coach1310
I think the Vikes draft was OK...I think they addressed their biggest need with Cook at DB... They weren't willing to give up what they needed to move in front of the Jets for Wilson, who from what I hear, is who they coveted. I think the only error there was not trying to move up earlier then they did.If it wasn't for Houston waiting on Gerhart, they wouldn't have to have given up so much to move up to get him, but if you notice Houston traded down after the Vikes pick so it looked pretty obvious that is who they were targeting. As much as I didn't think they got enough trading out of the first round, nabbing Griffen was a HUGE move in my opinion. They stay put in the 4th and he never makes it to them, but trading out of the first and moving up in the 4th, they landed a mid 1st around ability player who just needs a little pushing.... I think Mullet man and Kwilliams will show him the ropes.I like the big Guard out of Wake Forest, but I wish they could have addressed the area with a guy ready to play, not so much a project..I'm a bit dissappointed they didn't draft a QB. I think Clausen would have been the best "value", but I think McCoy is going to have a long career in the NFL. I don't see superstar there, but a Matt Hasselbeck type of career.Time will tell, I think it was Scott Studwell who was saying that "It will be tough for all of these guys to find a spot on this team".... it is a deep roster, so we'll see... caseymcq
Can I coach too? Why not, they let Les Steckel, Mike Tice and Chilly coach. Couldn't do much worse. ... But if you ever made the most high powered offense take a knee... well then... You would be who we thought you were
SFC
The first 3 picks should be able to contribute some this year. The vikes window for the SB is now. We needed picks that can contribute this year. Having a rookie QB as third string sitting on the bench is a waste of roster space. If Farve comes back, we have 3 QBs with experience that know the system. Lmit is right NE. is way ahead of the rest of the league in how to work the draft.
Coach1310
.... Lmit is right NE. is way ahead of the rest of the league in how to work the draft. That may seem to be true, BUT you can't annoint him and let him slide for the past few years. If he was such a draft master, why don't they have a running back and why can't them seem to stop anyone lately??I will agree that he is a good coach/exec/whatever, but anyone can trade for more picks.... but if you don't pick the right guys, it really doesn't matter. zepman
I think Clausen will make the Vikes wish they took him sooner rather than later. I don't even really like the kid but at some point we have to find a YOUNG answer to our QB situation. Our "window of opportunity" rests in #4's decision to come back and play like he did last year. I think he will be back for one more year but the odds are not in his/our favor of him playing at that level again. The Colts, Pats, (Cowboys and 49er's of old), all had YOUNG qb's that grew with the team and extended their "window" for almost a decade. Clausen may or may not have been that guy but I wish they would have at least taken a shot at him once he started to fall well into the 2nd.We have so much young offensive talent on this team...it just makes sense to at least TRY to find that QB for the next 10 or so years. FISHINGURU
I agree Zep, I think Clausen will find success quicker then Bradford. Just for the fact Carolina has such a good running game and an elite Wr Steve Smith. Bradford is gonna have to put the weight on his shoulders with a junk O-line and not much talent in the Wr's. soldoncass
There's a reason so many teams passed on Clausen ,multiple times. I think it was attitude related. That "problem" probably has been the downfall of more pure talent guys, nfl capable, than lack of talent has in of all time. SOME learn from past mistakes, and become stars.....others................don't. I like that the VIKEs passed on him and instead are looking for those "diamonds in the rough" free agents and small schools. Look at the FA ,and "tryouts" they are looking at....pure talent ladden group. There could be a Jerry Rice 2 in there. Just imagine how hard YOU would work to make a team...after nobody drafted you(hard on ego), but a team calls after, and says "we love your talent and will give you a chance to make the team". How hard would you work???????? At that level football is a 24/7 game. to excell, you have to have talent, work hard, study, AND commit to the game 24/7. Sometimes the ultra-talented just aren't willing to do that......how do you spell WASHOUT?
FISHINGURU
Hard to say, the Vikes have got alot of great players because of "issues" that player had or was having. Also alot of teams draft for need and not alot of teams needed a Rookie QB, most the league have the guy they want as a QB or the guy they think will be their future. Aaron Rodgers slipped from being either the 1st or 2nd pick of the draft all the way down to the packers, now he's one of the better QB's in the league. Who was the "better" QB takin over him again? The draft is a gamble, it always has been and it always will be, a normally awesome player might end up in a system where he will fail, if he happened to go to a different team in a different system he could of been a superstar. Some players undrafted become superstars, you can find QB's like Tom Brady at the very end of the draft, you just never know. zepman
I saw a stat the other day on ESPN that showed the percentage of players who played in the NFL last year as a whole. 20% were first rounders...17% were UNDRAFTED FREE AGENTS...15% were 2nd rounders....and it went down from there. So yes, the draft is a big gamble and nothing is ever guaranteed.

SFC
Those young QBs- Montana, Young, Aikman, Manning, Check the Qbs drafted in the last 10 years, I dont see very many with the talent that they have. In this years draft which one rates up their with those 4? One may pan out odds are against that, pay them 15 to 20 mil. to sit on the bench for 2 to three years. zepman
One thing that's very similiar with all those qb's you just mentioned and the Minnesota Vikings...tons of young or similiar aged talent surrounding them. With not many viable roster spots open on this version of the Vikings...why not draft a kid in the 2nd or 3rd round and hope he's the guy. If he's not, draft again next year...and again the following...until you finally find him. This is a quarterbacks league and we are soon to find ourselves with the short end of the stick in our division. SFC
It sure would be nice to get a QB like one of them. I believe when those clubs drafted them they were more in a rebuilding phase,if my memory is correct. I dont think the vikes are worried about a ten year window, they need to win now,-stadium.I beleave Farve will play,Tjack & Sage will see another year. How are you gonna compare talent of Hall Of Fame Qb's that had long careers to kids coming out of college? The Qb's you mention didn't have the talent coming out of college as they did in their prime. The QB's you mention are some of the best of all time, like your gonna get a handful of the best Qb's of all time in a single draft class lol.
