Lowrance StructureScan Images

PerchJerker

Question

I put a Lowrance StructureScan in my boat this spring and have been on the water with it a few times, learning how to use it. Here's a few screen shots you might like ......

We found a sunken boat on a small west-metro lake and went over it a few times in both StructureScan and DownScan.

This image shows a dock (with 10 dock posts) and a boat lift next to a small rocky point

This is one of the channels on Tonka --- you can see the concrete sides of the bridge, and a rock wall extending past the bridge

That's amazing picture quality. I'd have to give Lowrance the edge over Bird in that department.

Thanks for sharing!

I think that it's merely preference. The blue image of the Humminbird is easier for my eyes to see. I think the blue provides a little more contrast than the amber.

They talking about the actual clarity/quality of the pics which is better on the Lowrance based on everything I have seen. Could be any screen colors you prefer, the Lowrance seems to have more detailed pics....at least in the downscan area.

The pallet you choose seems to have a big impact on the image you see. I was playing around with an HDS 7 at Gander with SS. I tried many different color palletes, but the light gold/black that we've seen in the company releases looks the best. Is there an option to change pallete on the Birds?

Those screen captures are from an HDS-7.

Lowrance has 7 color palettes for SS. IMO 4 of them are horrible --- the other 3 I've been playing around with and so far I prefer this one. I wish Lowrance had a blue palette similar to the color HB uses so I could compare against it, but it's not an option ---- the closest is probably a black / white or gray / white palette that so far hasn't done much for me.

In addition to adjusting the color palette, there's contrast, frequency, range, and rejection settings that affect the way the image looks on the screen. I'm still playing around with it trying to dial it in the best for me.

I haven't used a HB SI unit since I used the Lowrance so it's hard for me to say if one is sharper than the other. I've been happy with my LSS-1, but before Lowrance came out with it I'd used HB SI and thought it was awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing the HB DownImaging, and using a HB again, now that I've seen Lowrance in action first-hand.

I would love to see comparison pics of properly tuned Lowrance and Humminbird units with the 'ducers mounted next to each other and scanning the same structure at the same time. It would be interesting to see how much if any difference there is and if one unit decifers certain types of structure better than the other.

Indeed there is. When I get mine installed and running I'll probably use the Amber 2 palette.
