Poutmaster
It started when I was just a small child. It intensified in my teens. By the time I was in my 20's, I began to realize it was more than just a recreational pastime. Now that I'm in my mid 30's, I've grown up enought to admit that it is an addiction. I'm the Poutmaster, and I am a Fishoholic![This message has been edited by Poutmaster (edited 08-17-2002).][This message has been edited by Poutmaster (edited 08-17-2002).]
mistermom
I started young. You know, sunfish, bullheads nothing to serious. Then I got into bass and northerns and finally walleye. As I got older I started spending thousands of dollars on my habit. A wife and kids got my addiction under control. But then I discovered this HSOforum and now my obsessive and addictive behaviours are coming back strong... I need help!At least I've stayed away from muskies. I would never do that. I would be lost.mistermom

jigglestick
well, this is my storyliving in the metropolis as a child didn't present to many opportunities to be exposed to it(thank god), or who knows what i'd be like today! but as i got older, i guess i just wanted to"fit in". i started hanging out with the "wrong crowd" you know, the guys your non fishing mother warned you about. it all seemed so harmless at first. a casual bike ride down to the river, lake at the park, any where there was water. then it happened.---someone handed me a pole."here, have a cast". i was reluctant at first, but feeling a little peer pressure i guess, i did it. just once. but the next time, he handed me the pole again. what was i to do? it seemed so much easier this time, i could'nt stop with just one cast.two, then three, then another, and another. i was out of control! i found my self spending all i had to buy that first pole. i realized i didn't have any lures, hooks or bobbers. but i had allready spent it all on the pole. i started borrowing from friends and family. when that cow ran dry, i had to get a job to support my new habbit. maybe a couple of lawns a week would do the trick. it worked at first, but then the habbit soon out grew my income. then another job. then more tackle. do you see the vicious cycle here. it went on for years like that. i have had a couple of years where i was almost cured( spent most of my time and money in bars. but then it happened all over again.i got hungry.real hungry....for fish. nowadays i found the way to control my habbit is to work as many hours as possible, but that kind of work for me is seasonal, which leaves 4 months of time on my hands in the winter....yep... my name is jigglestick, and i'm a fishaholic------------------happiness is a stout jigglestick

Uncle Grump
HelloI'm Grump, and I to am a fishaholic. I however, suffer from a variation of fishaholism - I lust for cold weather and hard water. I can't help it. Even now, with the cool, crisp nights we've been having, I've been searching the ice fishing web sites - looking for articles, tips, tricks I missed last season, anything to get a fix which will help "hold" me over until hard water comes.I'm waiting for the day to come when I can get my shack out, to pick up my tip-ups, to fondle and caress my ice-rods.Until hard water arrives, I'll just have to make do with softwater....UG
Scoot
Uncle Grump- you're sickest kind of fishaholic. Pure shame should cure you of this malady! I can't believe you long for ice when you can get out in a boat. Clearly you are in desperate need of a support group of some sort.Scoot
Dan97
Uncle Grump...I feel your pain as well. I live life on a double edged sword. Hard and soft water. Let me tell you about a little trick I learned in "group" the other day. Grab an ice cube. Not one of those skinny, machine made jobs. One of the good old tray models. Then go get a cordless (NOT A CORDED!!!) drill with a minimum of a 1/4" bit. Now bore some holes in that cube. Be VERY careful on how you hold the cube. Do NOT use your hands. Dull bits on your "auger" can jump and cause injury.I realize the scale is way off but after a few cubes, the urge will have subsided a bit and you can function again.Hope this helps.......Dan------------------[email protected]

Flashman
Hi I'm Flashman and I'm a Fishoholic too. It's been 9 days since I last wet a line. I've tried to cut down but I just can't. I find myself binge fishing after a dry spell. Fishing big kitties during the week nights, then going out and fishing all weekend. Sometimes hitting 3 or 4 lakes. Panfish, walleyes, pike, I've even tried muskies. Hardwater, or softwater. From the bank, or from a boat. I've carried a canoe a half mile to get my fix before. Paddling up stream, hopping beaver dams to find a place where no one else dares go. I know the first step is admitance. I don't want to cure my addiction, I just want to feed it. Fish on all of you. DARK30
Me? A Fishaholic? No way! I could quit anytime...I just don't need to! I just do it for fun and being social. I would never fish at home or on the job. I sure wouldn't let myself get a DWF. Sure I've got friends who let it get the better of them and now if they catch just one fish its over and they're out of control. I can fish alot and keep it under control!....Oh my God! Its Raining again!!!! WET NETS! ------------------cast,cast,cast,cast......

Uncle Grump
Scoot:I told you I was suffering! I can't help itfellas! I'm addicted to the little green blips on my Vexilar that turn red, the tug on my ultra-light rods, the whine of the drag as a fish takes line, the hiss and flicker of my propane lanterns....Its a curse, but what better place to seek treatment than in Minnesota? At least here I can feel normal for a few months.Dan97: I bet I could freeze some water in a ice cream pail and get one of my wood chisels out. Then I could practice my chiseling too!Even better - I could get out my bit & brace set, and get in some practice augering holes. Super!! I just might make it to first ice yet! fishinphyl
Hey Uncle GrumpDon't you know there are rules on this sight about your language. No 4 letter words allowed. Like snow, cold, cool, or the worst three letter word ICE! Now please mind your manners and refrain from using these words. At least until October! ------------------Phyl
