I most admit he did come on hard when needed but why did he not even attempt the final pass? Maybe he just thought McMuurry deserved a big win.(I was not really serious about that statement). Jr. is not a young driver. Its pretty much this year or never for him to at least get to the top five.

If you listen to Jr's interviews he tells you that he didn't have enough to make a final pass on McMurray.

He may not be a young driver, but at 35 yrs old he is certainly not an old driver. Why is it this year or never? What will happen to him if he doesnt finish in the top 5? Do you think he will lose his ride? I doubt that the most popular driver in NASCAR is going to lose his ride. He can drive for the rest of his life if he wants to and never win anything. Michael Waltrip has made a living doing just that. Even everyones hero Mark Martin has never won a championship in his 25 years of trying.

ya i dont think his career is any where near being over

but i dont think hes going to make any really impressions on

and anything...i mean like a bunch of wins or alot championships

he has more wins than m waltrip already but i kinda doubt

he'll make it into the 40's like mark

but ya as long as people still bow down to him for whatever

reason he will have a ride

Dale Jr. has 18 wins so far in 11 yrs, Mark Martin had 12 wins after his 11th year. Mark Martin has exactly 40 wins, Jr. is almost halfway there already. What makes you think that Jr. could not eclipse Mark Martin?

My point is he has some of the best equipment in the business. Last year he flopped. No big deal as all drivers have down years for one reason or another. If he doesn't make the chase this year he may find himself no longer the most popular driver. I do not see many poeple walking around with a 88 jacket now.

That being said I do believe Jr. and his sister will be excellent team owners.

Its called driver-crewchief chemistry and it is not typically built in a one season.

Jr will always be popular even if he does not win ever again.

Everyone seems that Jr should win as much as Dad or Jr is simply no good.

I don't think Jr. will cry if he is not the most popular driver in Nascar. I doubt that he will ever slip down out of the top 5 even if he races for 30 years.

I'm pretty sure Michael Waltrip has never been named the most popular driver in NASCAR with his 4 wins in 25 yrs. Waltrip's best season finish was 12th which he did 2 times. I think Michael Waltrip has had a good life and career without EVER being the most popular driver.

BTW, Dale Jr has been the most popular driver now for I think it is 7 years. This year will be 8. Jr has also finished in the top 12 6 times in his 12 years.

How come there are none of the usual JR. naysayers on here saying he can't drive a race car? No one can watch the last 2 laps of that race and say he didn't drive the helch out of that thing.

He only has a Cup ride because of his name-- bologna.

Dale Jr. will be just fine. 1 race does not make a season. It is the good start that he needed, but he needs to carry it over in the coming weeks and gain some momentum. I do think that he is one of the driver's that going back to the spoiler will be a good change for.

waltrip gets by on personailty

i think sunday jr might have gotten lucky with that finish

that the track cooled and made his car alittle better

i still believe he just strugles to tell them what to do to the car if he has a good car he does ok

but very seldom do you see him get better as the race goes on if its not good at the start

you see stewart up on the cart lookin at the computer trying to figure out how to make his car better JR talkin bout baseball cards....lol...maybe he missed his calling he should do stand -up...lol

I will say this, Mr Hendrick must have had some thoughts that Jr could do well.

One cannot blame it all on Jr. Last season if you watched, on average everytime Jr pitted, he would lose positions for the race while pitting.

The good crews get their driver out very fast.

How did that work out for Stewart? Didn't he finish like 23rd?

I sense some Jr. favortism so I'd better even it up. The point is a good driver can win any weekend on any track. To say Jr. is a top driver is nuts. If all the races were on plate tracks or short tracks there would be an argument. But, that's not reality and Jr. as a top talent in NASCAR is another non-reality... How many wins of his 18 or whatever it is are non-plate tracks anyway? I like his personality and all but, he is middle of the pack talent wise. Also, there is no reason why he cannot run top 10-15 every week in his equipment and his pit crew is far from middle. Hendrick Motorsports since day one has given him everything he has wanted and more... What's next? Will he get Knaus next year if he doesn't make the chase this year? I think they have done more than enough for him... Time to see if he can perform with the big boys...?!

To answer your question, 11 of Jrs 18 wins have come from non-plate tracks. He has won at several different tracks including Bristol and Dover.

I'm not going to say Jr is an elite driver but there are only about 4 drivers that have won more races than he has in the last 11 years. He is 9th in wins among active drivers. Most of the drivers ahead of him on that list have had way longer careers than Jr so far like, Gordon, Martin, both Labonte's, and Bill Elliot.

He may not be consistant enough yet to win a championship but I think that the statistics will show you that Jr can "perform with the big boys".

Agreed. Everyone get's on Jr's case because he is the most popular driver, and his stats don't back up the fanfare. Jr. never asked to be the most popular driver, and he has said before that his on-track success hasn't equaled his off-track fame, and it bug's him. For non-jr. fans he just makes an easy target for people to take shots at.

Harvick was the 2nd coming after Dale Sr. passed...how has he done? Oh, and then there was Denny Hamlin...what has he done? Now it's Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski...Jr. may not be the best...but in all actuality at that level, they are all pretty dang close and all can drive a race car. Remember, there are are a heck of a lot of other variables that go into winning a cup race on a given Sunday besides just the driver.
