Gracias for taking the time and effort to get the annual maintenance done on my RP on Sunday. The steering cable was a lot easier to put in the second time. I did help but Brian did most of the work. Money (or Windsor) well spent.

I am itching for some open water..........

Won't be long now.

Did you guys modify the steering cable so this will not happen again? Seems to me someone had a fix for this?

If any parts need to be made, give me a description or drawing of the bracket, part, mod that is needed and I will make them up for any Hi-Pro River Pro owners in this forum. I even have an out-let for some possible "5-axis" machining wink

If the fix is fixed, then cool.

Yes! From Go-carts to River Pro's, Papa is "Da Man"! grin

I believe the exhaust area cooling issue is resolved on mine with the late season modifications I made. I just eliminated all the 90 degree brass hose fittings that were causing the sand clogs and replaced them all with larger straight fittings. Haven't had any issues since so I felt comfortable putting another cable in. Should be good to go.

Papa Grump is a pretty handy and helpful dude. Got my snowblower recoil working again. I'm lucky enough to live by a handful of guys that know a lot about a lot of things that I don't know squat about!

All those guys, and especially Papa Gramp, are just good guys by nature. I'm lucky to be able to call them for help and occasionally wet a line with them.

glad to here you got it fixed John Brain knows his [PoorWordUsage] when it comes to motors.and the like

I think when this snow storm finally settles down I will be digging my boat out and trying to figure out how to make either a beavertail motor for it or a inboard surface drive powered by a harley motor. I may need some input form Brain and Shack as well. Its in the Planning stages right now.

Finally done blowing snow out of all the neighbors driveways again, so a big YOUR WELCOME to you John. I don't know if I'm really an expert or not, I just love pulling wrenches and getting oil and grease under the nails.

I think Capt. Fireman will have me beat on the RP knowledge pretty soon wink

Shack- There is about 2" of clearance between the cables and the exhaust on the jet drives, John has that cured with his fix to the coolant line(s)

I'm done with racing( told the girls and their dad today) so

I'm on the top of their doo dod list as I'm pursuing another adventure in the "motorsports" world:

Above all..."Papa Grump" is hands-down the best handle/screen name on FM! I just wanna say that I fished with Papa Grump...just once!

You just seem like a good guy. I got to ride in John's RP last year and hopefully again this year, so I'll say thanks as well!

frown Did you know a new ware ring and impeller shaft will run a guy just a little over $600.00 and someone makes a high performance impeller that will run you $800.00

Dude!!!

Yours has....or should I say...had one....

I would hope that Papa know his .... , He has the original RP cat rig! smirk

The impeller that I’m looking at putting in is a new high performance high scue 4 blade. This is different then the 4 blade that Kevin put in, that one is the stock impeller out of the 200 and larger optimax and it is in good shape.

I had a series of issues that lead to a failure of the power head. One of witch was the oil seals in the gear case failed and drained all gear oil out of the box. When I drained it, it had 20oz of water in it. By the time I had figured that out the corrosion had pitted the surfaces on the gear races. Since I had it apart I replaced all of the bearings and races and seals.

The spot on the impeller shaft where the oil seat, there is some rough spots, I could have polished this but since I would have to remove the motor and drop the pump again if the polishing did not work and replace the oil seals again, I replaced the shaft.

The wear ring that was in there had some deep groves in it and in some spots I had more then 1/8” of a gap. The original ring will be sent to Canada to be sleeved with stainless steel and mated with the new high performance impeller when that time comes ($). This will keep the boat in service during that time. It also gives me 2 options for impeller and rings. If the river is real low I can install the spare set so that I don’t mess up the good set.

The power head had a few issues also. This summer a wire from the voltage regulator grounded out coursing it to melt down and stop working. I replaced it and thought that was fixed. It turns out that it also coursed the stator to drop a magnet intermittently. This only happened on one output and caused one side of the ignition system to drop. This in turn coursed a detonation issue which caused damage to the motor components. With the damage to the motor and the excessive drag caused by the under lubricated gear box something finally let loose. The needles baring cage on the crank in the #4 cylinder let loose and fragged the crank shaft. To keep this short it was cheaper for me to put in a long block then to rebuild it.

There was no sign of under lubrication in the power head.

I have done quite a bit of body work also. All the dents from the front deck to the transom have been repaired including waste waters dent in fount of the intake. Lots of welding involved in this project. The upgrading and customizing is lots of fun.

This has been a fun project and has occupied my winter nicely. I amount it to rebuilding a classic car. This has been my dream boat since Hooper took me for a ride in his RP back in 2001, when I was fishing from shore in Jordan.

Here are some pics of the progress as of last week. The floor and counsel are now mounted and the hull penetrations have been resealed. The motor will be finished and installed next week and the pump goes in today.

That looks like quite the project. I am waiting for my new piston to get here, and then I will be ready for a test run somewhere. It looks like I had a bad head gasket that was letting water into cylinder #1. Most likely from the several times I overheated the engine.
