has punto ever been on base before? I just always remember seeing him walking to the dugout dejected as FSN is going to commercial

I seem to remember something about him on base in the playoffs last year. frown

I also think it was a good deal. It shows that they are trying to do something.Good/great defensive, good guy, good bat, good wheels ok power for a MI ... great fit for 2 hole.

Third base? would love to see Crede make it back to form and do a incentive deal but hard to say.

Washburn? he is WASHED up ... no he is ok, but no better than a third or fourth starter and he wants too much money for that. If he was smart he would try to get a three year $9 million deal or he will be looking for a new team next year too.

The twins are his best chance to land with a contender, IMO.

Our team may be better going with a youngster in the five spot or Liriano may bounce back ...

Wahburn is not a good pitcher, IMO. But he is a lefty ...

I wouldn't be surprised if Crede comes back. I think there is a standing offer to him. Same as last year loaded with incentives with small salary. Low cost high payback (like Thome). Can you believe the Pohlads are opening up their wallets! A refreshing change with Carl's sons at the helm. I think their salary went up a third to around $90 million. They realize that the revenue from the new stadium will help them afford Joe and keep the core of the team together. Hopefully they can find another pitcher or one of them has an outstanding season.

With this signing, I have to admit that I am pleased with the offseason (assuming Mauer signing will soon be announced). I honestly didn't expect any more new players after Thome. Provided they stay healthy, that offensive lineup is I think realistically about all we as Twins fans can hope for.

Pitching will be more of an overall question mark than the offense but think there is potential for decent up and down pitching despite not having a #1 power type pitcher but those are about impossible to come by for this type of payroll.

If Morneau and Hardy have good recoveries from below average year and Span, Cuddy, Kubel, Hudson, and Mauer have years even close to last year, and if Young can improve his strikeout ratio, they could have very impressive offensive numbers. I know that's a lot of "ifs" but not out of the realm of possibility.

You are wrong about Thome --

Sure it would have been nice to have him a couple of years back, but he still can hit the ball and punish pitchers. I would guess he will get about 300 abs and hit .250 21hrs and 70 RBI -- it will be really nice to have him in late inning situations -- somebody u actually HAVE TO FEAR at least a little bit. Nicki P. did not strike fear in a little league squad.

I like Punto, but only as a utility player. He can play any of the infield positions, except 1 st. He is fast and can be used as a pinch runner. And can play in the outfield in a pinch. He just can't be in the line up as a starter everyday. Being he can play all of those positions makes him valuble to the bench.

why sign hudson to a 1 year contract? why not sign him to a multi-year deal, it would be cheaper. the twins always sign players to 1 year deals, makes no sense.

liriano looks very good in the winter league, hopefully he can carry it over to the season, his LH arm in the starting rotation would be nice.

The same reason no other teams have past or present. Kind of a head case is what I've heard.

I suspect the signing was at least in part to try to show to mauer they are serious about fielding a playoff caliber team. Hopefully it's not a case that then they can let Hudson and any other higher paid players go after this one season and Mauer is contracted to stay but have to wonder of the one year contract is part an out for them for that reason.

I wouldn't expect Punto to hit .290 like he did 2 seasons ago or be as clutch as he was in the pennant run hitting close to .400 and then some in the playoff's, again, but he'll continue to be an invaluable asset to the team for the reasons Scott mentioned above and the obvious and not so obvious reasons that may be missed by the casual fan/s.

We'll see how these signings go and how they effect the Best team in the Division 5 of the last 7 years chemistry.

On Paper it looks promising but Paper champions don't get you into the playoff's.

Go Twins!

Hopefully the twins give punto some earplugs so when he hears crowd noise he doesnt think the ball got through the infield and tries to score from second on an infield hit. The most boneheaded play I've ever seen. And yes, that was his excuse!

You have never seen a fly ball bounce off Jose Cansecos head and go over the fence? That was worse. We put up with Denny Hocking as a utility guy for years, Nick can at least play defense, Hocking couldn't do anything

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
    • The water looked and smelled disgusting with hundreds of thousands of birds sh*tting in there.  About as gross as the Salton Sea. When I duck hunted there I didn't even want to touch the water.
    • It's kinda gross with the algae in the summer but I got in it anyway.  Wanted to see the increased bouyancy at work.  You can kinda tuck yourself into a ball and you'll just float with your head above water.  When dry off you look diamond encrusted with the salt.
