coombia21
I am looking at getting a 20ft pro-v but i am trying to decide between the windshield or the tiller I will be getting a 200 either way so motor size isnt an issue but I cant decide between the two like the space of a tiller like the protection of the windshield let me hear your opinions thanks dan
grizkid
is it gonna be strictly a fishing boat or are you married with kids and it would get used for skiing or tubing also.If its just a fishing boat i'd say the tiller there is no comparison when trying to stay on top of fish. just remember you will get beat up alot more in the tiller and i cant say for sure in the 20 but i have a 17' lund tiller and if its rough its wet. Northlander
Windshield for sure on a 20' boat. Tillers are a wet ride and if your going 20' Im assuming you will be on big waters. That windshield is awesome on long bumpy runs that always seem to be on a crosswind.
hamms-scooter
I really like tiller boats! Better control and more of an open layout.I like the space vs the windshield. Plus i like the look way better!
coombia21
the biggest lake i will be fishing is vermillion usually need the 20 for space not big water
Northlander
I have been on the Big V when a tiller would have been a WET ride. Plus I like driving up front for visability especially with 4 people on board. Plus your riders will apreciate it more.
Jigging Joe
If you're going to be fishing big water I would say windshield, I have a 1775 pro V tiller and I know my next boat will most likely have a windshield for 3 reasons, 1 is that I get wet, alot!!! 2nd, my arm gets tired going 5 or 10 miles across Millelacs or Winni, 3rd, its hard to see with 2 guys in front of you. I know you would have remote steering if you go with a 200 hp tiller but I also know you will get wet. The only way I would go with a tiller again would be if I go with a fiberglass boat, they can form the hull better to push the water away. With that said, fishing out of a tiller is awesome compared to a console.
wplatehunter
I would go with the windshield. I have a 19' pro v and it makes for a lot better ride on big water for you and everyone in the boat.
BobT
They make tiller with 200hp? That seems like it would be a lot of work.
walleyeseeker
I currently have a 20' Warrior and love it. My dad has a windshield boat and it's too crowded. I love the open space. I fish big water alot and I don't get wet any more than I do in my dad's boat. The ride is far better in the back of the boat if it is rough. With other people in the boat, you do have be a little more cautious with you view area, but I don't think it is a problem. With the new tiller arm, steering is just as easy as using a wheel. I would buy a tiller again without hesitation. Enjoy whatever you get.
Comit 2
If you are going to be fishing Mn inland waters only I would think about the tiller boat but if you are going to be trolling where you can use more then one line go with the wheel boat. It is nice to have the back of the boat open for rods and riggers.
solbes
Since you're already spending the money for the big Lund, why not get both? The tiller model has an optional removable drivers console at the stern. It would at least offer you some protection when you want to fish big water. Smaller lakes or good weather forecast, take it out for more room.
norma
I like widslields. Glasses, hats, contacts flting out. It is not fun to run into a swarm of bugs at wot on the lake. I also like canvas on my boat so I will admit to liking a level of comfort. If all you want to do is fish, get the tiller, but if you or your passengers need some protection from the elements, a windshield is your freind. SkunkedAgain
I boat to my place on Vermilion all year. I finally went to a single console boat after running tillers for years. The ride is nicer for the operator only in the tiller, as the back doesn't bounce as much. It is hard to see around multiple passengers with a tiller, and with the traffic on Vermilion having any kind of a blind spot is a risk. I also dreaded making trips to the east end because my arm would would get tired and sick of the engine vibration (older motors though). I also took many wet rides, which were fine in the warm summers but sucked in May, September, and October. I like not having to wear my rain gear as often. On the other hand, consoles and windshields do take up valuable space. I also miss the control that I had fishing with a tiller. Over rough water, I take it a little easier now because I feel every wave a little more.Figure out what are the most important elements for you. BobT
looking at a 16 ft lund tiller this weekend to buy for myself wondering how fast it will go with a 40 hp merc I had a Lund Rebel 16 with a 1987 40hp Evinrude. Topped out at about 32 on smooth water and only me inside. I didn't have power trim so might have been able to tweak a little more if I did. yaggie
You can"t beat the protection of a walk through windshield when you are shooting across a lake in late october. Its much more enjoyable fishing when you don't freeze on the way there.
Ralph Wiggum
I'd say 30-32 with a light load sounds about right.
Northlander
looking at a 16 ft lund tiller this weekend to buy for myself wondering how fast it will go with a 40 hp merc I also would say low 30's.
dfv87
Each has its place but for me I love the windshield. Fall fishing or Spring fishing and cold weather it is nice to huddle in behind the ws and not be freezing or wet. I also like the top to cover even more for fishing in the rain wind etc.room... you are getting a 20' boat and if you need all that room then I guess you know what you need, but I have a 18.5' walk through and unless I have 4 guys I have plenty of room.Have a buddy with a 18' Lund Fisherman (tiller) and while it is nice to be able to walk a fish from front to back if needed, I just don't know if that alone is enough of a selling point for me. Lastly as previously mentioned, if you plan on "playing" with this boat, tubing, skiiing, touring, the windshield is nice.
SkunkedAgain
Wow - drastic shift from a 20ft Pro-V with a 200hp to a 16ft tiller with a 40hp Merc. You must've had your boat money tied up in a Vikings Super Bowl bet!
coombia21
I am looking at a pro-v with my dad we would each for some of (buying used) it but i want a boat to take with me when i am away at college, so my dad and i might just get two smaller boats instead of one big boat or possibly a fishing boat and a pontoon
