Fur prices 2010 any rumors or actual

Recommended Posts

Walleye,

I saw better prices than that last weekend. Things aren't rosey, but they arent doom and gloom either.

How much do you sell your walleyes for? Crappies? Deer?

Remember, this is the only sport we have that will not only pay for itself, but cover some other stuff as well-

All I have sold so far is my mink for $11.80 average and my rats averaged $4.86 and I had 3 fox for $15 average. Sending 150 coon to the auction and all my tagged fur as well. I was very happy with my mink and rats and the fox were just coni bonuses anyway.

I think the market is actually going to go up!

If your trapping beaver make sure you save the castor. It is worth almost as much as the pelt. I sold 20 some beaver that i nuisance trapped this fall for very little. if they are not blankets dont expect much. Most of the ones i got were small to mediums and i averaged around $5 each. thats skun but not streched. I'm only about a thousand in the hole this year! I don't care if they stop buying fur all together, i'll still be out there wackin' em. I had a few rats that were $3.50 streched.

I wished I could of held onto my fur. I wanted to hold onto them but sold coon daily in the round for gas money. Had to sell mink when the gas man came an filled the tank. So that leaves me with some rats. Well I am glad I held most of my rats, I did plan that right. Hopefully they stay up til they sell at the auction.

I like to be optimistic and think that fur will go up for a bit. I'd rather have reason to think positive than hope positive.

sounds like there is plenty of coon, sounds like beaver harvest is down, but they lost some processors so prices are down to. Sounds like all rats are selling, castor prices are rising.

Fish-that was an average, top price that i got was $25 for several skins, lowest was 10.25.

Not that its good by any means, but this is a private treaty sale, the main sale is Jan 25th.

so I just looked up the recent report of yotes on NAFA site and the last time they sold at an average of $38, I'm assuming thats tanned finsihed and everything right?

about what is the percentage to take of that price to get the skinned value or whole?

That's not tanned, just skinned, stretched and dried.

If you look more closely at the numbers..........

#1- those were private treaty sales, not auction. The skins were picked through and only a small % of what's up there was offered for sale, likely some of the best skins

#2- only 81% sold

#3- the prices did not include small sizes, as indicated by the *, that inflates the price

Not a good indicator of the market. In MN we have heavy skins but poor color. The best are from west of us, MT, WY, ID, etc. So our B grade yotes really aren't great. A lot better than KY, TX etc though.

There is no set % you can take of a stretched and dried avg to get the price on a carcass or green skinned coyote.

Right now in MN if you had a large lot of skins that represented the range of yotes you get in MN you'd be lucky to sell for an avg of $20 for stretched and dried, more likley $15 and with many small sizes, damaged, and off colors not bought or only paid $5 or less for.

So for skinned you're looking at $1-$20 (not many green yotes for $20), and less for on the carcass. Many shot yotes will be hard to unload on any buyer.

For carcass or green skinned yotes $10avg is awesome.

Also remember that they are past prime now, and if you are trying to harvest for fur from now on to the rest of the winter you're going to have a lot of rubs and wooly looking spots. Yotes caught/shot from now on out will be lower priced and tough to move. You'll find some good ones in there, but by february many of them start to look crummy.
