Berkley Gulp Alive?

Wondering if anyone uses Berkley's gulp I heard that its pretty good but curious if anyone actually uses the stuff and has good luck with it? Just thought it might be nice to have around.

I have used it, it has it place and time like all bait. Only draw back is its container, make sure lid is on tight at all times, if you spill it it does not attract the gals if you know what I mean.

Used it twice last summer, caught the first fish each time then had to switch to live bait after getting swamped by partner. 'Course I didn't have the brain power to redip the bait.

Its hard to get the smell of your fingers, hours after getting home you still get wiffs of it.

Worth the smell in my opinion. Works good and you don't have to worry about keeping it alive or stopping to buy more minnows everytime you want to go fishing.

I have to agree that you gotta make sure the top is on the container. It can be a mess. I put each container in its own ziplok bag just in case.

We mainly used Gulp all summer. Works very well. I have not tried it in hard water yet. Has anyone else? Great bait, lousy containers. Really make a mess. I started keeping all my Gulp in a separate tackle box.

I used some Gulp Alive wax worms last ice season, and the sunfish seemed to like them as well or better than regular waxies. I want to try the fish fry this year.

I've used these little ones called earthworms I think? A small skinny worm about an inch long in a dark reddish color. We caught a lot of crappies on them last winter, outfished everything else we tried. We could catch about 10 fish on the same one. Just rig it on a little ice type jighead, we actually broke them in half.

The fish fry is my favorite panfish bait. Have caught crappies on the fry through the ice also. Just shorten them up a little.

I bought the white waxxies for early ice and had a little bit of success with bluegills. Lots of nibbles and few takers. I think these will work when the fish are a bit more aggressive and will save rebaiting time and money!

I have some silver minnow heads, and red fish fry sitting in my Xmas stocking though! So I will be testing out a few of them! Yes, the jars are bad and even when I open them up it seems like I get juice all over myself. The liquid also freezes if left in the cold but still seems effective after rethawing it out!

I caught crappies on the Alive! minnows on a bare red hook on Sunday. About 10-12 fish per minnow. I think the "minnow heads" might be the in the basket next time I'm at the man store.

Pink fish fry is the ticket for crappies today. Just put it on the same jig as the ratso bodies and performs very well. The key is to keep the jig light enough so it falls slowly.

I use the maggots and 1" smelt under the ice with good success. I do well on the crawlers and smelt in the summer.

I've caught crappies, walleyes, pike, bass, and even a muskie on the minnows (shad or smelt) on open water. Good stuff. Now hearing you all talk about using it on hard water has me wanting to try it!

I've tried the waxworms with no sucess. I think they will work better when they get more agressive. At least I hope!!!

i have found that if you dont fully remove the foil seal and just lay it down and then tighten the cap it wont leak.... mine were upside down in the closet all summer and no smell or liquid anywhere to be found! just a heads up!

I'll have to try that next time. I've never had them not leak. It's the only complaint I have against them.

Along with a few plastics, Gulp is pretty much all I've been using for about 3 yrs now. Gulp maggots in pink and Alive maggots in white. No worries about live bait is nice. Can fish all day on the same bait. My Gulp jar has even dried out and they still seem to be working fine.

+1 on keeping the cap tight on the Alive tho. Nasty stink.

I fish gulp alive plastics with marmish jigs and rod. Makes a deadly combination when going after crappy. I have also had great success with this ice combination when fishing rainbows.

I have used the gulp waxies and had very good success. I picked up some of those 1" gulp alive minnows to try but on my first trip out neglected to give them a shot with a good bite going..... One other plastic I recommend for ice is Little Atom power nuggies....Dont know why the crappies like these but they do...This year they have additional glow colors and mirco's I really like glow blue and red...The purple not so much
