Jason Mitchell Meat Stick

Hey guys I recently received a Jason Mitchell Meatstick for a gift. I asked for it because I wanted to use it as a deadstick for walleye. After seeing the rod I don't think it will handle a walleye. Do any of you use your meatstick's for walleye? If so, what happens when you catch a 4lb + walleye or worse yet a 10 lb + northern?

I bought a Meatstick specifically for walleyes.

I love to dead stick (with no bobber), and a good dead stick needs a rather soft tip with a good backbone.

I have fished with mine for two weeks. So far no walleyes, but it has been fantastic on crappies. On a dead stick holder, I can still see very small crappie minnows work the tip. When one hits, I take the rod off the peg, dip the tip a bit and set the hook. I am detecting and catching fish that others in my house are not.

I caught a 19.5 inch largemouth last week. Sure the tip bent a lot, but the backbone had the fish to the hole in short order.

Excellent rod for the money, IMO.

I think you going to love how the meatstick handles what I call the "death-quiver" while jigging.

Just hold the rod tight and quiver, that meatstick tip is the only one I've found that handles that fine of a jigging motion.

Perch, Walleyes, Pike, heck every fish I know loves it when they start staring at your jig and can't resist the "death-quiver".

Huskie, are you asking how the tips can break so easily? I don't have this rod yet... I think it's wrapped and sitting under the tree now...

Anyway, I think the breaking is all about the angle the tip is being bent at. When fighting a fish, you most likely aren't putting a sharp bend in the tip section like you might if you dropped the rod, picked it up by the tip, dropped something on it, etc.

Just landed a 12 lb pike on a Meatstick within the past hour. That sensitive tip did just fine, the rod had plenty of backbone to get the job done. Leave your worries behind, you'll have some fun with your new present.

My present was perfect jig placement on my first fish thru the ice this year. winksmile

Great rod i now have 2 of them.Just take care of them. I cut the line a wind up the string so there is no tension on the tip for travel. But when your outside the small eyes will freeze quick so be careful if you got a bigger fish on.

Z,

I have used it with the Lindy Darter and it does work very well.

The rod will handle nice fish with ease.

You do have to be careful with the angle the tip is bent at. Ice on the line can cause you to bend it back sharply and the tip will break. You need to always make sure your tip is protected. That is the price you pay for this type of sensitivety and jigging control.
