Mr. Heater Question

I have long been a fan of the Mr. Heater/Cookers and had one over ten years before it rusted out (my fault--might still be working with better care). Since then, I have bought a new heater/cooker that "blew up" on me... factory assembled incorrectly and the tank sat above level which overrode the safety valve, or some such thing, and continuous fuel came out the first time I used it until it was engulfed in a ball of shooting flames. I have an open bottom fish house that I didn't anchor down that day and I was able to flip it off, or I may not be here typing right now... At any rate, make sure the tank head is angled at least slightly UP is what I was told. I received a replacement, but this one has a very high pitched whine once it starts that lasts for 30+ seconds before it goes away. Happens on every light and on any given tank of gas (I use 1lb tanks). Anyone have this happen? What might I adjust? I'm gun-shy now, after the last disaster, but it does seem to work normally after the noise dies. I should have brought it back right away last year, but I didn't, so now I am stuck with it...

I usually just give up on a product after it tries to kill me.

Every heater/cooker I have seen screamed for about 10 seconds after firing up. I just figured it was normal.

i also had 5ft flames come shooting out of mine. My buddy panicked and almost tipped the house over tring to get out! I calmly reached over and shut the valve off. Then after checking everything we brought it outside and tried firing it up and it wouldnt. i changed the fuel coupler and its worked fine ever since.

I think trying to stay calm and turning it off is the best you can do. Has anyone ever had a whole gas tank blow up in their house? I think all it would do is shoot flames out until all the gas is gone, but I have never hear of one blowing up, are it spliting open! confused

I had a fishing buddy almost burn down both of our houses (linked together) 2 years ago. Same 5 foot flames... Quite the sight and I am glad nothing other than than happened.

One more problem maybe someone can answer. I can't get my cooker to work on anything but 1 pound tanks. 10 pounder pancake style and 20 pounders do not work with the hose extension. I've even gone as far as buying 2 hoses one of each length. It was fine before they came out with the OPD valves. Any suggestions?

BTW, I figure the foghorn sound is music to my ears, being out on the ice... Kind of like the thunderous cracking late at night.
