I hear ya.

If you ever are looking for something to do, check out your local school district and see just what those superintendents and other administrative staff are making every year.

It will make you think twice before voting yes on the next tax levy.

That problem is everywhere.

Nice to know that your tax dollars go to support these colleges too?

I'm certainly not going to say that these coaches aren't overpaid to some degree but you have to realize that it is an investment for these schools as the Football programs almost always make money and support the other athletics at a university.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL NOTES

Saban earned his pay

Associated Press

Thursday, December 10, 2009

When the University of Alabama hired Nick Saban in 2007, it gave him a $32 million, eight-year deal that made him the highest-paid college coach. Apparently, it was worth it.

Records from the U.S. Department of Education show Tide football made $38.2 million in the 12 months ending June 30.

It all comes from the Athletic Dept. They earn money (tickets, alum donations, concessions, etc....). They have a budget then contribute money to the rest of the U. That's how it works at most large schools.

Yep, most of the sports programs are not money makers. The sports programs that make money at most of the large schools are men's football and men's basketball. At Minnesota, men's hockey also makes money.

Personally I think all collage football or any other collage sport coaches and personnel should be paid, flat rate so to speak, so all collages can compete fairly and get away from the business aspect. Like we need another bowl game like a hole in the head. Whats next the po-o po-o scooper bowl.

All the excuses/reasons in the world will not convince me collage coaches need to be paid this exorbitant amount of money. You can shuffle the paper work all you want to make it look like sports are self efficient but that still does not cover up the fact tuition's are going up and the cost to sustain a state collage is going up.

First of all, Theres no way that paying all coaches the same is still going to make a difference when it comes to competition. No matter how much the money is, good coaches will still want to coach at storied programs such as Notre Dame, Alabama, Michigan and so on. If Nick Saben's choice was between Alabama and The Gophers for the same money, I'm pretty sure I know where he is coaching.

Hiring a quality coach is am investment in the school. The better the football program, the more money it makes to off-set the other athletics departments that don't make money.

I understand what your saying and I agree on a certain level. It's to bad opponents cant or wont try to understand other points of view of how money could be spent and that not everyone who goes to collage really cares about the athletic program and satisfying the general public's need for entertainment.

But you have to understand that most big football programs MAKE MONEY, right?
