Inexpensive Ice Fishing Gifts

So, it's nearly Christmas time, and for many of us, that means we have to leave the cave, fish house, sofa, garage, office desk, whatever it may be and do some Christmas shopping. Luckily for me, I can dovetail Christmas shopping and browsing the ice fishing section because my friends and both brothers-in-law enjoy the outdoors, particularly ice fishing. Because money is tight for all of us, I was wondering if any of you had any good ice fishing gift ideas, preferably under $40, that make for a merry Christmas and a happy ice fishing season.

Here's a few I've found:

* An Insultex Fishing Shirt from ProFishingSupply. If you haven't at least tried on some Arctic Armor and Insultex material, you don't know what you are missing. It is lightweight and warm. You can hardly tell you have it on.

* Some inexpensive jig kits from the Outdoor Pro Store. Even with shipping, these are far cheaper than what you find at any store and you don't have to pay $2.60 gas to get them.

* I can't believe it, but apparently there are still some people that don't have LEDs for ice fishing. If you are just getting into LEDs and don't want to have to put a bunch of lights and wires together, buy these ready to use lights from the O.P.S. and bask in the glow of cheap, bright lights that hardly draw any amperage off the battery.

* I already have Lake of the Woods on my mind for later this month, then I'll rest the lake for 2-3 months and come back. For either end of the bookend winter trips, I'm going to want some Angel Eye Jigging Spoons in Gold or Red. These are nice jigging spoons for almost anything I target.

* There are a lot of ice rods on the market, particularly of late now that the value of a good ice rod is well understood. I probably own one of each kind. The Jason Mitchell line of rods are at the right price point for most folks to get a good rod for the money.

Please share some of your good finds for gifts (under $40!) this year...What item do you really want to get? What new thing do you want to try? What cheap item can't you live without?

Nice list ... some other ideas:

- Merino Wool socks and/or base layers

- Ice fishing gloves

- New Clam led light + Fan combo

- Grab bag of some of the new ice lures out this year

- St. Croix Legend spring bobber rod ($50)

- Little Dipper ice scoop (LOVE mine - indisructable, ice knocks off easily, and nice built in ruler & and it looks cool)

All very good products and suggestions well worth putting in the stocking or under the tree.

I would also wish to add, it is always good to help support where we can the good folks whom help to keep the site up and running too.

Happy shopping and Happy Holidays to all!

Where did you find this tackle box that fits in the bucket? I think that it is a great idea and would love to find one. Personally, I give my brother-in-laws a bunch of ice fishing jigs and tackle. Buying $30 worth of fishing tackle is money that doesn't have to be spent by the recipient. I know that they really like it and look forward to my presents every year. Good luck out there guys and stay safe!!

I am never dissapointed to get new jigs or some ice line. I think some of more expensive jigs (Buckshot Rattle Spoons, Mimic Minnows, Chubby Darters, Rapala Jigging Lures, Swedish Pimples, Kastmasters, Etc.) or the micro ice or other more expensive fishing lines are great because I'm usually prone to buying a few jigs at or over $5 a piece, but getting the more expensive jigs/line as gifts is appreciated. Then I can feel like I get more with my money buying the $1 - $2 jigs myself!

Also a rod case, a nice reel, thermal tip-ups, wool socks, maybe a new set of auger blades?, A few bags full of candy never dissapoints either! Wait... These are all things I wouldn't mind getting! grin

Santa, If you could fit one of those bikini ice fishing team girls in my stocking that would be awesome as well!

At first I thought you said "bikini team girl JUST in stockings..." grin

Here are some things that come to mind:

1 lb propane cylinders

bait puck

fly box(for those panfisherman)

forceps

glow light for lighting up jigs...name escapes me
