Winter 2010 Icefishing Reports and Ramblings

Recommended Posts

Dad, Billy, and I hit the sunfish hole today and did well. Didn't rip lips all day but we worked and shuffled around and ended up with about 25 each in the pails. And some real quality fish to boot.A steady pick and we missed someearly activity, plus it never got hot in the afternoon like usuall there. The wind got crankin about noon and it was not too nice by the end of the day either.

Lee - we never made it out to my GPS marks from last year, founds weeds and fish west of there.

There was 2 guys straigt outta Big Gay Bay out there! ie: fish slime stained refrigiwear suit, jet-sled, a 6 gallon pail, an auger, 2 rods with no reels, shuffle from hole to hole with no wasted movements, slip a fish into thier pail with only lifting 1.25 inches off the pail, and the all important evil glare they give you every 3 and a half minutes - I think this is thier defense mechanisim to keep people at a distance. I hole hopped near them but hand-lined my fish so they would feel at home. grin

ThunderChum - Those Polar Pal tents were great! Lots of fish came out of those cool

Not as mobil as today but kept the wind off ya and when you had some snow to pack inside they were toasty. We never had one blow away but I remember sitting on a rung with each foot on one thinking I was gonna end up in Sylavan beach! I also remember Tank and I squeezing into one on Sandy pond cuz it was too windy to set both up. When we were fishing Oneida hard in the early 90's we had a good system - we'd secure the top of his to the ski on the snowmobile and mine to the back of the dogsled that held all our gear. Far enough apart but close enough to chat. I'll never forget the whiteout where we were set up like that and I peeked out and couldnt see his tent!

King I guess your reports were backed up a little kinda like Thunder. winklaugh Looking forward to seeing the pictures when I get home. Got my new "green" license yesterday King wink Another Rogers fopaw it's been that kind of year. cry

Franky - Forgotto check the power head this morning on my auger, keeping my fingers crossed no leaks. Ran some Stabil Marine, carb cleaner and sprayed the [PoorWordUsage] out of carb controls which were gummed up. She's running great. Stillhaven't got a response back from Strikemaster on the lazer head mix up. frown

Dougy - Your right we do need a gathering. Thinking Mar 13th (sat) on the Big O, last weekend of walleyes. cool

King - I don't believe it. Have to remember that date 2/12/10 King skunked. Could have been the headlines of the Oneonta Daily Star.

I guess it could happen to one of the best. Hell every now and then even Timmy gets skunked shocked.

I think everyone had a really good time today. Was nice seeing everyone, having some laughs and catching a fish or two.

Good job guys......

Anyone fishing tomorrow, I'm doing the girlfriend thing in the morning then going fishing. Found some really nice sunfish today but had a headache so bad I had to leave, feeling better now and hope to find then again. They were very picky today and I could see them come in and nudge the lure and trying to site fish made my head hurt even worst. Tim, Doug, Todd, Frank or Kyle give a ring tomorrow if you want to get out. It protected from a West wind so should be nice.
