What are some of your favorite bluegill imitations? THe lake i fish a lot has a bunch of them. I like using swimjigs with a kicking tail also have a couple swimbaits that do a good job but what are some other options?

i use trout(rainbow) colored raps in a particular lake i fish, for some reason they out fish every other color. there are no trout in the lake but it does have a lot of vibrant colored gills in it. never really talked to a fish to see if they think it is a gill, but that is my theory.

A bait I would really like to try is the Jackall Giron in the RT Bluegill pattern. It's probably one of the most realistic imitations I've seen, but it costs $20. I have a real hard time spending that on one bait.

Right now I use Revenge jigs, Rapala DTs, Salmo Hornets, and a crank that I custom colored(which I actually catch the most fish on).

I have a giron and like it alot but there are more realistic (and therefore expensive) bluegill swimbaits. I like the giron for its small size and it has a unique darting action instead of swimming.

Ya i bought one of those and it looks amazing but im afraid to throw it a lot so haven't given it a great chance. It is also a little bigger than i like to throw most of the time.

DT's seem to work fine for me. I also use swim jigs, chatterbaits, and spinner baits with green and orange in the skirt. The more I think about this though the crazier it seems... to spend 20-55 bucks on a crankbait. In my opinion, once again, we as bass fisherman out think ourselves. Cranks and swim jigs are reaction baits that the fish really just react to in a fraction of a second. They don't have time to stare, think it over, and judge a lure's resemblence to the real thing as it is moving quickly through their strike zone. I think that color is most defidently important, but a taxadermy quality paint job is incredibly over the top.... Sorry for the run on; I haven't posted in a while.

Hiya -

Swim jigs are awfully good bluegill imitations I think. For deeper stuff, the DT bluegill color rocks. I destroy a couple DT-10s and DT-16s in that color each season (pike like them too, sadly).

A really good one for shallow water, I think anyhow, is the Strike King King Shad. I don't know if you'd call it a crankbait or a swimbait, but either way they're pretty awesome. They have a new Baby King Shad out, which I haven't used yet, but I'm really excited to try it on smallies. They have a bluegill color that is pretty good.

I've also used the 4" Tru Tungsten swimbait and done ok.

$55 for a bass bait? None for me, thanks wink I think 25 for a muskie lure is nuts...

Cheers,

Rob Kimm
