picksbigwagon
call the county sheriff or the CO? I hope you did
MN Mike
Road hunting is the plague here in NW MN, I'm sure other people deal with it too but it's just BAD.I've been in Boars situation MANY times over the years, absolutely torques you off when people come along, after you've been watching Does, Fawns or small Bucks, they jump out, BLAST away, run out, grab the deer and throw it in the truck, no gutting, tagging or anything! Believe me, I've called the CO, wether or not anything comes of it, I have never found out, he only lives about 5 miles away, most of the time, I have no idea who they are but sometimes I do.Early Doe season is horrible for this.A lady was out doing yard work this weekend, some young fellows were deer hunting and shooting at the deer, didn't pay attention to where they were shooting and put the bullets thru her yard, she called the sheriff and it wasn't good for them from what I heard.Mike
96trigger
Where I hunt, there is a highway that runs along the bottom of the bluff, I can hear traffic clear as day, on the other side of the highway is pasture and ag land. The deer often feed in the ag land, cross the highway, then head up the bluff where I am waiting just around the corner. Last year, a guy was driving on the highway, he shot a decent buck as it was about to cross the highway heading right towards me. Needless to say, when I found out, the guy and I had words. Even his employer was ticked as it reflected on his business to have a guy like that working for him. I didn't see nearly as many road hunters out this year, I think it is much worse the second season.
BobT
This would be a great time to have a decent pair of binoculars handy to record their vehicle license number and call the TIP line. They likely failed to validate their tag or register the animal. When they get caught with the unregistered meat they wouldn't stand a chance in court. lovebigbluegills
Sorry to hear about that Boar--it's bad enough that it happened to you, but especially with your kid up there with you.Every year, I hear another story or three where somebody's sitting out in there stand and some (insert appropriate word here) stops and hammers the deer out eating near their stand. Most times I hear the story the deer is just left there, and nobody comes bouncing through the field to pick it up.They ignore the laws, no hunting signs, and don't even look to see if there's somebody sitting in the stand. It's just an absolute shame, and a kick in the pants to law-abiding sportsmen.
paceman
Yes that [PoorWordUsage] happens every year. Couple years ago I watched a nice buck fawn walk by me through the woods toward the road a 1/4 mile away. 5 minutes later I hear a car drive by, stop, come back. Bang, one shot then drive away. The fawn comes running back to me stops by my stand. Lower jaw hanging, blood dripping. One of the most disgusting things I have ever seen. Of course I finish him, tag him.... Musky Buck
Last night I had some road hunters watching my beans and corn. I thought since I don't hunt every night how often these 2 trucks come by and have they taken a crack here already, is this a % of why I don't see any in these 2 fields ? 96trigger
yeah, MB, i would call the CO and have them come and check the truck out, more than likely, they are breaking a law, or at least the CO can watch them for awhile.
Boar
My dad got a pretty good discription of the truck as i was narrating the whole scene to him as he was coming out to hunt, but my dad is'nt quick on the logic draw when it comes to things like this, he was to astounded that it was happing right in front of me. I have to many should could woulds on this one, I coulda remeberd my binocs, I shoulda had law enforcement numbers in my cell, an woulda ran after them, but running up to nogooders that might be armed, just is'nt my cup of tea. I acctually had time ti go an see what was going on by the time the grabe it but Had this whole "naw couldnt be, what the, are they, no way, Oh no they did'nt, they did, holy cow, they did. thing going on, boar
96trigger
I would be doing the exact same thing, "no way, can't be, did they just, son of a beach, they did!" And gone.
Gordie
its s--ks when stuff like this happens but I saw on the news where a lady hit a deer with her car and it got stuck in the grill so she drove to the police station with the deer in the grill and it was still alive so the cops got the deer out of the grill and took it out to the country to release it and the deer runs towards the woods when all of a sudden boom, boom, boom shots ring out at the running deer from guys that seen the deer as the drover by. they missed the deer and were arested. I think this happened in maine but not sure.
crothmeier
few years back we found two dead deer laying in the ditch along our woods with bullet holes in them. one deer had the horns cut off, the other one was caped out/head gone. they left the meat and just took the antlers. pretty discouraging finding that on opening day, knowing that probably the two biggest bucks were gone. MinDak Hunter
The TIP number is on the back of ALL your hunting and fishing licenses and 411 is good for getting the non-emergency number for the local sheriff or police dept.
Arctic
I think that when you realize that most of these poachers are almost identical to sexual preditors and pedifiles in terms of their mentality, then you realize how important it is to turn them in. These are usually repeat offenders and don't rehabilitate well.
BoxMN
I know for a fact that if you get the plate numbers on the vehicle or ATV or whatever, the CO can and will issue a citation based on your info if it was a violation. I even had pictures. Good luck.
