.30-O6 Bolt Action...

I currently use a Remington Woodmaster 740 .30-O6 semi-automatic but I've always had a wish to own a .30-O6 Bolt Action... .30-O6 seems to suits me the best...

I would like to know which brand would be the best for $400-$600 range???

Many thanks

Check out Tikka. I have a Tikka T3 Lite Stainless and absolutely love it! Shoots very tight groups and a very smooth action. My dad had the identical Woodmaster gun that you have. When I got the Tikka he shot it a couple times, went out and got the Laminated Stainless version and hasn't shot his Remington since. It will feel like you are carrying a feather around, weight-wise, compared to your automatic. I love bolt actions! Never have had the need for a quick follow up shot. I just make sure the first one counts and don't take it if its iffy. Lots of good bolts out there, but you should definitely take a look at the Tikkas!

i have a tikka (.270) and love it...had a rem 7400 30.06 though...i dont think you can go wrong with any gun out there...i looked at browning, remmington, savage, pretty much all...they all feel different...find one that fits you...some are too thick for smaller hands, some too big...but try them all is my advice...

Look at all brands , feel them,, pull them up. Put on heavy coat then pull up again. Cant go wrong with the Remmington, tika, ruger , browwing, weatherby.. Look at then all. Let us know what you get.. Good Luck..

the 740 belonged to my grandfather... and it has such a legacy behind it... Im pretty sure I'd pass it onto my son when he starts hunting... which is why I would need one for myself...

So far, I've liked Tikka, Remington, Browning and Savage (based on what I found online)... I'll check into those some more...

Savage makes a great barrel and rifle, sure it is not as pretty as some of the others, but if you are looking for accuracy, I would recommend a savage with the accutrigger....

I've shot a savage 111 in 300 win mag, comes in 30-06 as well as many other calibers and I absolutely loved it. I'm not well versed in rifles, but it was a joy to shoot and is a true quality firearm at an affordable price.

I'd vote for Tikka. I have a 7mm rem mag T3 lite stainless and absolutely love the gun. Very accurate and light to carry. Can't go wrong with a Remington 700, I just didn't like the stock that much. The Tikka felt better.

Not even sure if Remington makes it anymore but in 1984 I received a Model 700 BDL 30-06 and 25 years later it still looks brand new and has great balance and does the job. Can't go wrong with a bolt action, you only should need 1 bullet, I bring 4 bullets. Put them under the bolt, walk to stand, load 1 up when ready to hunt. The last thing I want to do is bring extra brass with that fall out of the little plastic holsters and rattle around making noise in your pocket, very annoying sound when rifle shells are rattling together.

I have a 7400 rem .280 semi-auto, and like you wanted to go to a bolt. i found a browning a-bolt .280 black stock/stainless barrel for $479. i had switched the scope over from the semi auto and i really like this a-bolt. however i looked for a good deal for about 2 years befor i came across this one. regularly this is a $799 gun though.

weatherby vanguard is what I shoot and I've read a few reports on it and it is probally the most accurate out of the box gun you can purchase and is in the price range you are looking for.

I have had a few guys shoot my gun and all they say is how smooth it is and how nice it shoots>

I thought that my ruger M-77 in 30-06 was sweet but this weatherby has got it beat up and down.

just my .02 cents

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
