Steve Foss
so we don't have to listen to the cheezeheds drone on about thier glorious past till our ears bleed! If our glorious past wasn't important, you'd ignore it and focus on your team's glorious present and hopeful future. So why worry about the buzzing of insects in your ears . . . unless their sting actually hurts . . .
zepman
So who exactly are these "big-dogs" anyways?
DTro
Yeah, the Vikes sure didn’t “run” with the Steelers did they? LOLOr are they not a “big dog”? "Why don't the Vikes....give a little back to the fans and build their own stadium
LMITOUT
They didn't beat them either.
DTro
Well you didn't say beat. Did they not "run with them?"
pegleg
LMTOUT, San Fran was 2-0 when the Vikes beat them, Green Bay was 2-1 and 4-2 when the Vikes beat them, and Baltimore was 3-2 when they beat them. It is not the Vikes fault that each of the above teams took a turn for the worse after they got "pummelled" by the Vikes.
Jim Uran
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Exactly.
LMITOUT
Well you didn't say beat.In my first post in this thread, I said why don't they beat some teams that have a winning record.
LMITOUT
It is not the Vikes fault Once again, I never said it's their fault, but what I'm saying is that they haven't proven anything yet. And speaking of getting pummeled, the playoffs should be fun after the Vikes get sent home AGAIN when they actually have to play a top caliber team. Then the Vikings fans will be left sucking their thumbs wondering what happened and I can say 'I told you so'.....again.The fans and team are so predictable that they're hardly interesting anymore. Yaawwwn.
zamboni
Yeah the Packers and their fans aren't predictible at all. Packers lose, Rodgers gets sacked 6 times a game, and the Packer fans blame GM and head coach- and still remind us all they have 3 rings. Seen that sit-com 100 times. DOUBLE yawn, and puke.
LMITOUT
And I've seen the same sitcom where the Vikings fans don't know any other way to debate other than spewing garbage about the Packers which isn't even relevant to the discussion....
pegleg
So LMITOUT, who do you consider a "top caliber" team? Giants? Cinci? Chicago? Arizona? That is all that is left on the Vikes schedule before the playoffs. You obviously don't think Baltimore or San Fran or the Packers (whoops we aren't allowed to bring them up in this thread) are top caliber teams so who do you consider top caliber teams?
zamboni
the Packers, isn't that obvious??? Packer fans living in Minnesota whining about the Vikings make me wanna throw up, move to Green Bay
LMITOUT
Not sure why you think I'm a Packer fan, because I'm not.
LMITOUT
Baltimore and SF? Weren't those the two games who's outcomes depended on a missed FG and a hail mary?Yep, those were sure dominating wins against mediocre teams.
zamboni
Not sure why you think I'm a Packer fan, because I'm not. Yeah I don't know where we get that from. Putting the Packers on a pedestal and taking a dump on the Vikes. There's about a million ways for me to put it, but I can't on here, I'd get banned
Wadinator
[my purple glasses off]LMITOUT- Its obvious you're not a Vikes fan, and I can see where you're coming from. Being a long time Viking fan myself, I'm still leery of a letdown and that unease won't be settled until we win a SB. Will that be this year? The odds-makers say 'no' and I tend to agree.[purple glasses on]Regardless of my previously professed cynicism, this year is by far the best shot at a SB this team has had in more than a decade. Can't argue that, can you? Will we be able to beat the "big dogs"? That remains to be seen. [second set of purple glasses on now] The saints or anyone else in the NFC do not scare me as much as the AFC powerhouses (Pittsburgh, New England, Indy). So as far as I'm concerned, we have as good of a chance at a SB birth as anyone else in the NFC. In fact, I think we probably have a better shot at it than the Saints. Their team is riding extremely high right now, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I think there is no way their D can keep up this level of play (and points scoring) for the rest of the season, and it will be their undoing. LMITOUT
Very good analysis Wadinator. Even after the second set of purple glasses were put on it was a good breakdown of the potential future of the team. They must be a light tint of purple for cloudy days such as today. And even if I'm not a dyed in the wool Vikings fan, I'll still be happy to see Favre take the team to the playoffs and possibly beyond. As the greatest QB in the history of the National Football League I have no doubts if anybody can do it, he can. Your first statement is exactly the point I'm making.....lets not submit the order for the Sports Illustrated commemorative Vikings Super Bowl year-in-review book and DVD set just yet. Are they looking better than they have in a while? Acoording to their record, sure. I'm just not sold on whether or not this team can compete with the big offenses in the league and I'm afraid there will be a lot of tissues and Rolaids being sold as the weeks wind down as well as into the playoffs if they don't compete on the level they need to win the "big one", or even the NFC Championship for that matter. Time will tell, but as past history indicates it would be wise not to set yourself up for a big fall if you're a fan of this team. Cautious optimism is all I'm saying. Enjoy the ride, but don't be shocked if the wheels start to go flat or even come off before it rolls across the finish line.
fishin58
Yep, hopefully we dont have to order another collection of missing rings...the 09 version.

Ah, see LMITOUT has fallen victim to what is known as "VkiningsLetMeDownAgainItis". Symptoms started soon after the Vikings had losing SuperBowl games in '69, '73, '74, and '76. In 1988, during the NFC championship game against the Redskins, Darren Nelson dropped a pass from Wade Wilson on the goal line, thus dashing their SuperBowl tickets. In 1992, the Vikings started a string of 8 playoff appearances under Denny Green. None were as agonizing & depressing as the NFC title game in 1998 against the Falcons with the infamous "Take a knee" and "Oh, I can't believe he missed that!"; thus ending a 15-1 regular season. And who can forget the 41-0 loss to the Giants with Daunte Culpepper at the helm in the 2000 NFC championship game?Unfortunately there is no known cure for "VkiningsLetMeDownAgainItis". An experiment currently under human testing is to dress #4 in Purple (see twisted knife in Ted Thompson's side) and hand the ball off to AP all day long. Assemble the best Vikings defensive line in decades (Better than '89 with Millard, Noga, and Doleman?). Throw in a solid linebacking core and a pair of monstrous tackles. See where this train leads us. Personally I don't think the future's looked brighter and the Superbowl could be within reach. But I can't forget the fact that I too have a case of "VkiningsLetMeDownAgainItis".

BANDERSO
Solbes, I also believe LMITOUT is a closet vikes fan that has had his feelings hurt 1 to many times by the vikes. And this "VikiningsLetMeDownAgainItis" that you speak of is an obvious symptom he has been expiriencing. Much like anyone who has some sort of deeply rooted disease like this, they use denile to cover it up. We need to gather round LMITOUT and help him through this tough time in his life. He deperately wants to cheer for his old vikes, but doesn't want to be let down again. I am here for you man. Let down your guard LMITOUT, let it down and join us. Feel our strength! We need you back. Because we need you as much as you need us.
Cooter
Why don't the Vikes..... LMITOUT
hahahaha!I've recanted this story before but I'll mention it again...I was a Vikings fan up until about 3rd grade but then I figured out, even at that young age, that the Vikings had no future. Twenty-five years later and they still haven't proven me wrong. I'm just glad I already had a comprehensive understanding of the Vikings franchise at that tender age so that I didn't have to suffer through a quarter-century of mediocre play. pegleg
Cooter, and the Packer fans are what? Loyal? Yeah right, prior to the Victory over the Cowboys the Packer fans were ready to fire Thompson, Fire McCarthy, Fire Capers, Cut Rodgers, Burn down Favre's supper club and ask the NFL for a mulligan on the season, etc. etc.
