Thanks

I was in your boat once...that's why I have so many cheap, crappy rods that I just want to get rid of. Looking back, even though I didn't have a ton of money, if I would have invested all the money I've spent on cheap gear and got the good stuff right off the bat, I'd be set. No starting over. No worrying about upgrading. Once you have the best, all that's left to do is fish!

I completely agree, I have a bunch of [PoorWordUsage] I wish I could get rid of because I bought things "I can afford." I wish I would have gotten 1 great rod rather than the handful that sit in my garage forever. Although I do hear you can donate them at the ice fishing show for a $5 Thorne Bros gift certificate.

I have used and own most of Thorne Bros rods and the Mitchell line. Honeslty, the Mitchell line or rods will catch one just as many fish and will be much easier on your pocketbook.

The Thorne Rods are nice but they are very expensive. I have a TB deadstick that was like $90.00 and my Mitchell was $30.00.

They are a bit different but both will get the job done.

All depends on just how much one wants to spend on a rod to catch a fish when the other less expensive one will do the same job.

That's a lie. The TB deadstick is about $60, even if you got the very longest deadstick they made, you're talking $75.

They are however made in America, all of the guides are aligned and wrapped/glued properly, and don't have a history of snapping.

I don't mean to start a fight, as the meatstick is a good rod, but it's certainly not a TB custom rod. It's also not the price you quoted.

I had the Jason Mitchell meat sticks that IIRC were carbon, I broke two tips real quick on my own clumsiness. Not the rods fault, but not the rod for me either. The PowerNoodle is fiberglass and held up real well last winter. I now have two, but then I am now also broke. If money is the real object check out the Mitchell meat stick which I think now is made of fiberglass. IMO carbon is just a bit too brittle for that kind of noodle tip. That is the reservation I would have on the new Thorne QuiverStick, too. It depends on how much kicking around your equipment gets. Mine stays in the backseat and so needs to have some ability to handle less than perfect handling. So far I have no complaints about the PowerNoodle's ability to take what I hand out to it.

Alternative suggestion would be spring bobbers. Some wouldn't fish without them. I kept catching them on things and some are a bear to thread. I personally don't like them, but you might. They would certainly be the most economically of alternatives however.

If you get a Thorne Bros rod made for the same type of fishing as the Jason Mitchell rod they are very comparable..VERY Comparable. I would have no problem taking the Jason Mitchell in that instance.

SC were my rod of choice a couple years ago. WHY....Their spring bobbers are easily the best out there, still are. They are nice rods. Keep an eye out on the tips and their replacement policy.

Now if you get a specialty Custom Thorne Bros rod made just for you and for s specific type of ice fishing that Jason Mitchell doesn't offer now there's an awesome deal.

Yeah, I still want to get a Panfish sweetheart made with an eye on top to hold the St. Croix spring bobber. That, I think would be the near ultimate panfish rod.

I hate the spring bobbers that you need to thread your line through. So tough to do with cold hands at dusk. And yes, I have the throne bros threader for their spring bobbers.

For the record and before you call me a liar, I got the Thorne deadstick in the 36 inch length with a reel seat. Then add the sales tax and the $3 for the protective and shipping and you just paid $90.00 for this rod.

This is all fact my friend and I do not care to be called a liar. You should know what you are talking about before you call one a liar,

TB deadstick 36" with reel seat--$75.99

tube for shipping----------------$3.00

Sales tax------------------------$5.14

sub total------------------------$84.13

Plus shipping and this rod cost me $90.00

I'm sure one can purchase a rod for less at the TB store ans some deadstick rods are offered for less but the one I have was a different TB rod as it had the reel seat and a longer rod.

The rod says Thorne Bros on the rob blank so it is a Thorne rod. I'm not going to argue about this any longer but i do have this rod at my house. You may come over and see it any time.

I realize one can purchase it on specials from time to time but that is not the listed price.

Plain and simple, I’d be happy with either one in my bag. I’m just not sure if it is a fair comparison.

If you are a guy that wants a bag full of good dependable rods and can’t afford to fill the bag with custom rods, then the JM would be a great choice. If you would rather spend a little more dough on a great “custom” rod then check out the TB line.

I’d be very surprised if claims of catching more fish with either one could be quantified.

Might I suggest checking out a number of rod brands at a retail outlet or perhaps the ice show? Attach your reel to it, see how the action feels, does it “feel good”, is it too heavy? Nobody wants to be finessing light biters with an uncomfortable setup.

Here’s another option, mix and match. I took a JM Perch rod and cut the tip off and then attached a St Croix spring bobber. I really like that setup.

There are lots of great rods out there....keep an open mind smile

JM has a spring bobber rod that I love, its my go to rod most of the time. Big eye off 2 wires, sticks out a little far but never has given me a problem. I also have the perch rod and may spring for the panfish if I dont go for a frabill quick tip, cant decide.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
