I think we all (or just about all) agree that the quality / enjoyablility / excitement of NASCAR races has gone into the toilet the past few years. The COT while much safer, has proven to produce some of the most boring racing I have ever seen.

So...my question to you...You are now the CEO of NASCAR. You have to keep the COT. What do you do to make the racing better?

Me...I get rid of the wing and put the spoiler back on the cars so they have more downforce. In addition, I allow teams more wiggle room in terms of adjustments they can make on shocks, chassis, etc. Give them a bigger framework with which to work, instead of making it smaller.

Oh, and lastly, make restrictor plates be required at every track! Just kidding...hehe.

*Eliminate the coil-binding suspension.

*At the super speedways, leave the restrictor plate the way it is but allow the teams to work with different shock and gear options instead of making them work within a very small box of parts supplied to them by NASCAR.

*Get rid of the "egg crate" COT template and go back to the old templates. This will give the teams more areas of the car to work with as far as the body is concerned. Also, expand the tolerances allowed to fit those templates which will give them more room in those areas with which to work.

The bottom line is that they need to get away from the IROC style cars.

The COT was supposed to save teams money because in theory they could take one car and run it at all the tracks, but the teams have eventually built a fleet of them just like before so essentially the egg crate template and close-tolerance car dimensions have become pointless.

If I could change one thing about Nascar.....

Eliminate the "top 35" rule. Make every car that shows up at the track have an equal chance at the 43 starting places. You have a bad day qualifying, you go home.

if I could change two things...

Go back to the smaller field at the short tracks.

I would like to see the safety of the COT combined with the "old" style. I agree with HOF that they should loosen up the restrictions on what a team can tweak on their cars. They could get rid of the top 35 rule as well.

I agree.

I got many ideas on my wish list but I will only share a few.

1. More points for a win to make the teams want to win more instead of playing safe week after week.

2. Change the arrodynamics somehow (either body, spoiler or other) so the cars drive better in dirty air or not so good in clean air. I am tired of the lead car with old tires or bad handling driving away from the good handling cars that are in dirty air.

3. Change the front suspension, I don't like the bump stop stuff and how hard it is to dial a car in. It seems like the team that spends the most on the stops, swaybars, ect.. outruns the rest of the teams.

4. I'd like to see Chad Knaus's idea happen at the plate tracks. That is to open the plates up or get rid of them, and add a chickane to the back stretch to keep the speeds down.

5. I like the lucky dog but hate it when a car is numerous laps down and gets the lucky dog more than once to end up on the lead lap. No more than 1 lucky dog per car.

6. Go to fuel injection.

OK the COT is here to stay so we just need to accept that. With that in mind, here is what I'd do:

1. Take the 1.5 mile tracks and reduce them all to between .75 and 1.25 miles all with the progressive banking that Homestead and Iowa Speedway have. These cars are much more racey on smaller tracks. While I'm at it, give Rockingham back a race, it was always one of the most competitive tracks out there.

2. On plate tracks, take the rear wing and the front splitter and cut them down by about 75% of their size and increase the restrictor plate by about 50%. Give em horsepower, take away handling so they need to really get off the gas to go through the corners.

3. Dump the Chase. Race for season points like they should always have been doing anyway. I've said it a million times, racing does not need, nor should it have playoffs.

4. Get rid of coil binding and bump stops and progressive springs. Make them run a straight coil spring and set ride heights and sway bars and shocks regularly. Lots of variables in chassis set ups when you don't just plant it on a coil bound spring.

5. I don't mind the lucky dog because its a safety issue, but get rid of the waive around cars. Shrink that fuel cell again so they have more pit stops as that shakes things up during the race and gives cars a chance to get off sequence and get laps back the hard way.
