Just wondering what kind of tape or shrink warp to put on my rod handles to hold my reels? Thanks

Plain old electrical tape works best for me. Wrap it tight and is will last all season or longer.

Use the good 3m black tape.

Look for the rubber tape that only sticks to itself. It is sold as "tommy" tape or repair tape at some of the box stores. It is very comfortable and does not leave any residue...

Masking tape or another and then electrical tape over it. The first tape will keep the electrical tape from harming the cork on the rod.

Thats what I do, use the masking underneath. Seems so far to work well.

I also have heard that the rubber tape as Darl Cloud has mentioned works well also.

Hockey stick tape... works great on the blades of a hockey stick.. and even better on the grip of an ice rod. All of my reels are locked into place with it..

What's the reason for taping the reel to the rod? I guess I've never had a reel come out of the plastic reel holder 'thingies".

Then again I usually only fish pannies and haven't iced anything bigger than a 14" crappie.

Many rods don't have the plastic reel holder thingy, just a cork handle. You have to tape the reel to the handle.

Anyone know where to get Tommy Tape? I spent about 20 minutes at Menards one day while they asked sales guy after sales guy and sent me to 3 different departments before I concluded they do not carry it.

I know the big box stores - Depot N Lowe carry it...

The stuff is stretchy and only sticks to itself. Usually takes 2 six inch pieces per reel...

I use Hockey tape. I do retape each season. (Note to self: retape)

I use electrical tape but the first loop i put on the rod upside down (sticky side out). Then i put the reel on the rod over that tape and then place the electrical tape around the reel foot on the top of the other tape. This prevents the tape from pulling off the cork. Since electrical tape stretches nice it is real easy. It has worked well for me and holds up well through out the year.

Hockey stick tape works great. It handles the cold and water well. I think I have had the same tape on my old Genz rod for years and it still is working.
