Vikes working on Chili extension!

It’s pretty simple, they can extend him all they want, but if they don’t at least make it to the NFC Championship and Favre is gone, next year there will be blackouts and such and the fans will eventually run him out. I’m not saying that is right, but it will probably happen.

Win a SB and all bets are off. A guy like chili gets 10 yrs of free reign here with a SB win.

Ok, somebody through out Tennessee as an example of stability so I will throw out Denver. Fired their coach Shanahan last year and had nothing but turmoil all summer with their new coach plus traded their star QB. They are now 6-0 so stability is not what it is cracked up to be - just have the right players and a great defense.

I was way down on Chili the last two years, but I am very pleasantly surprised with the way that it has come into shape this year. I agree that TJack is a black eye on chili's progress here, but I don't think anyone can say that he didn't give the kid a fair chance. That alone is very admirable in a coach. This year he (and the management) addressed the QB situation in a VERY convincing manner. I'm interested to see how it plays out from here, since Favre is obviously not going to play here for 10 more years. I hope we see him back next year, and how sweet would it be to draft a first round QB and have him learn from Favre for a year before starting? Mark Sanchez looks pretty good this year, but imagine just how good he could be next year if he didn't have to deal with the Jets growing pains this year! I'm really looking forward to see what the team does next, and I feel optimistic that they are going to make a good decision. Will that be TJack? I don't think so, but they've shown that they recognize the weak spot on our roster and are giving TJ a chance right now to really show them he can do it. I hope he gets a chance to get into some games later in the season so we can make a long term decision on him finally.

Mark Sanchez....really...you mean the QB with 5 tds and 10 picks and a Qb rating of 56. With one of the best tandems of backs in the NFL, Cotchery, Keller, and now Edwards. But wait, he IS NFL ready.......

Having describing the previous two losses as "horrendous and embarrassing," they can now add "amazing, baffling and deflating" to their ever expanding list of adjectives following a 16-13 overtime defeat to Buffalo at the Meadowlands yesterday.

Amazing?

Yes. How else to describe the fact that rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez threw five interceptions (three leading to Buffalo points) and the Jets still managed to send the game into overtime and have a chance to pull out a victory? Of course, Sanchez derailed that chance with his fifth interception, which gave the hapless Bills the ball at their own 42 with 6:25 to go in OT. And try as they might, the Bills could not bungle this opportunity as they drove down to the Jets' 29 and Rian Lindell nailed a 47-yarder for the victory.

Yeah that's the QB I mean. F58, I know you merely watch the box score to evaluate QB talent and don't watch their mechanics and what situations they succeed in, so it doesn't surprise me too much that you would feel this way about him. The growing pains I was speaking of are the struggles the whole team is feeling right now. Cotchery has been pretty banged up the last three weeks (including those losses), and that was Sanchez's most comfortable target up til now (trust me, I have Cotchery on one of my fantasy teams). Rookie QB loses most trusted target and struggles (quite a bit I agree). That's an understandable result I think. In the spirit of good humor and fun, I'll bet you a 12-pack of some Breck beer that Sanchez regains the form that he showed early season, assuming Cotchery returns sooner than later. If he gets his target back and continues to struggle I'll put in a 12-pack of your beverage of choice (comparable price). smile

Beer is for sally's, but you are quick to throw TJ under the bus when his first 2 years he DID NOT HAVE A WR half as capable as Cotchery Or Edwards......I will hang up and listen.

Most of you fairweather nancies would have run Shiancoe, Berrian, Sharper, CHILI, and any other player that has struggled at all out of town. Just take this forum for example, it is amazing how many Johnny come latelys there are now that the Vikes are 6-0.

But people still complain about Chili and his offense and his aura and whatever they can find to knit-pick about. When there offense, yes the Vikes O is #2 in the league. And yesterday Bert, yes holier then thou Brett Favra said that he can count on one hand how many times he has audibled this season.

Maybe the WR core looked so-so because they had no QB to get them the ball. I know thats an idea you don't want to think about, but its the most likely scenario.....

Isnt it funny that you bring up Thomas Jones and Leon Washington in relation to Sanchez but you always seem to forget the guys Jackson has had the luxury of handing the ball off to. Amazing how that works lol.

Rice has been here for three years, and all of a sudden he's good? Coincidence? Nope.

Nope. He was hurt all of last year. That's according to Chilli and Paul Allen. They were saying it all year last year when Rice wasn't doing anything, and they've said it this year when explaining why he's doing so much better. He also has a much better QB throwing the ball to him, but that's not the whole story.

Good you boxed your self, Rice has been hurt every year and he didnt even dress for a lot of the games his first 2 years.

How many recievers/te are still in the NFL from 06 or even 07. Go ahead and look it up, you guys seem to have the time. But it should not take to long.

I am not saying that Sanchez won't be good but you used a 6 game sample size and he has looked horrendous. He also has more weapons then TJ had in 06 and 07 I do not know how that can be even disputed..... 08 when the team was healthy TJ played well.

It doesn’t take a great football mind to see that BF has made all the difference in the world on this team. It’s night and day, both physically and mentally.

I’m sure Chilly hopes his pocket aces hold out. He’s put in all his chips, so why not work out an extension before someone rivers a straight on him.

Favre gets hurt right now and this team finishes 10-6 at best.

Hey, I was referring the the normal minded people(the ones that don't have Jackson up on a pedastal and pegged as an elite Qb like yourself.)

We sure wouldn't be 2nd in scoring with that moron behind center. When you realize that you might gain some credibilty for your statements, so quit patting yourself on the back Pier.

Thats the difference between you and I. I actually read your post and you make up stuff about what you think I said to suit your needs.

Show me one post where I said T-Jack was an elite QB? Don't bother I didn't and you can't because he's not even close to being an elite QB and more than likely never will be.

So go ahead and twist this one anyway you like!

Go Chili!.... grin

Funny you leave out the recievers of 08', and once again forget who he has been handing the ball off to. Keep ignoring the impact AP has on a passing game. If you think Thomas Jones does the same thing for the jets offense ur nuts. What Favre has been able to do with this passing game makes it pretty obvious how far away Jackson is from being an NFL QB.

Someone explain to me again why we continue to debate about a backup QB that there is absolutely no controversy with within the organization when it comes to his abilities or where he should be on the depth chart?

But....if we're going to chalk the Vikings offensive success this year over previous years completely to Favre, we haven't been watching the games. Before we twist that out of context, Favre is obviously a huge upgrade and a huge difference maker over previous years. We wouldn't be where we currently are without him. But look at the play calling. This is just as big of a difference maker as Favre being back there.

We saw play calling like last year in the first half of each of the first two games this year and the offensive success was very similar to last year. What if we would have the same play calling that we have seen the past few weeks and T-Jack was in there? I know many of you will tell us what we'd see. But the FACTS are that we don't know and we never will unless we see it happen. And many of you will also say that it's because of T-Jack that we had that kind of play calling. Was it also because of T-Jack that the play calling has been the same with other QBs since 2006 as well? And even under the previously mentioned situations with Favre this year? If anyone will say yes to this, than T-Jack must be the most influential person on the Vikings payroll.

T-Jack has had some weapons on offense to take advantage of, but they haven't been great (other than AP). Look at last year. He struggled in the first two games. Who else was struggling at the beginning of last year? Shiancoe and Berrian both played very poorly early in the year. When T-Jack was allowed to play again, both of those guys had turned their games around and T-Jack's performances improved dramatically as well. Coincidence? I think not!

I'm not sick of it at all. It's the most entertaining part of Fishing MN. Why would I not keep coming back to something that's humorous? Having a little humor (or a lot in this case) in your life is a good thing! I just don't understand why there's even a debate going on. Maybe this debate should be on Comedy Central?

Having an opinion on something absolutely does not make you wrong, you're 100% right if that's the angle you're taking. But there's a difference between having an opinion and stating a complete unknown as if it were an absolute fact. We see that time and time again on the T-Jack topic.

If you don't think that the wider array of plays being called now has anything to do with the coaches' confidence in their QB, then you're seriously mistaken. Why does a QB begin to target a certain receiver more than others as the season goes on? Confidence and trust. What makes a coordinator open the playbook as the season goes on? Confidence and trust. If they're unwilling to open the book either they don't trust their QB, or they're just not a good coordinator and should be let go. Is our O-coordinator the same this year as the last couple? I'm not sure, but if he is then it's a trust issue.
