Below is my exact post from th 61" muskie thread....

"""""""""""""Go and grab your digital camara. In the next 30 seconds snap as many shots as you can, as fast as you can. depending on the camara, 8-15 pics? 1 pic for every 2-4 senconds. You snap pics while the fish holder is in motion moving and posing the fish giving you the best opportuinity to capture a great angle. and remember you can always crop a pic, better to not zoom and capture everything instead of zoom and cut your head off.

Then, 1 maby 2 on the board, you are going to measure the fish anyway, might as well photo it. No reason not to.

1 minute out of the water and you are good. """"""""""""""""""""

Congratulations to the anglers. First and foremost. What I both do and don't like about someone catching one like that from Vermilion is that

1. Anyone with any time in out there knows now that within reason fish this size do exist there and this just better proves it, and there are likely larger fish to still be caught. Thats great!

2. As someone who has strong connections to the lake, it has been hit very hard and this past summer had exceptional pressure, with many spots getting hit almost 24hrs/day at times. This kind of great news isn't going to improve the traffic situation on the lake.

Lets just remember to treat one another with respect, both on the forums and when we see each other on not only Vermilion but any other lake we might happen to be on with other anglers and our sport will truly benefit.

And darn, I gotta get me one of those!!

I'm just happy to see people catching quality fish and releasing it. The perfect picture doesn't matter. I can understand people wanting some good pics but come on that fish is a beauty. Thanks to fisherman like these some other people will have a chance of catching these fish and maybe they can take a better picture to post on the internet.

That is a real nice fish.

As for the pics yes they were not great but still better than no pics right?

I would seriously hesitate to put a pic of a big fish anywhere on the net just for the fact that if someone knew I had it out of the water for 2 minutes and announced it on the net I would be chastised for having it out too long. What if I want to keep a big fish and mount it? Then you get bombarded for not getting a replica. Never ends, I cant understand why it's not just "Hey, Nice fish!"

Actually, other than missing half the fish, it's a pretty good photo. It's exposed properly and in focus with good lighting. The person with the camera should have just held the camera vertically instead of horizontally. Excitement can do that to a person. Most people never even think about turning a camera vertically.

"Hey wait, let me pull my hood up over my face, and now let's position the fish so that we will only get half the fish.. OK? you got it?, cool. Now for the next one, make sure you shake the camera so that it's out of focus.....OK we're good? sweet"

"Cool, now we can post it all over the place and claim it was bigger than it really was. I'm sure we'll become rich and famous now"

Some of you all are a piece of work, I tell ya what. Just because YOU want the perfect picture doesn't mean everyone else does. We all would treat the situation a little bit differently I bet.

I know guys that won't even take pictures of big fish. Smile, high five and back in the water.

I addressed the fact that the pictures were not for me, or for anyone else on the internet for that matter. It's just puzzling to me that a fish like this would be publicized by a lodge or a guide or whoever, claiming state record potential measurements, with photos like that.

Also, your "dialogue" is somewhat absurd, dtro- no offense. obviously no one asks for a bad photograph, but come on. the only fish picture this year I've really been excited by was that Crooms' leech lake fish.

That isn't just a bad picture. It's half a picture. Now, you cant expect every walley guy out there to know exactly how to hold a 50 some odd # muskie, but c'mon.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to see more. I have never posted a picture on the internet. Obviously someone posted this picture on the internet, obviously these guys arent as cool as the guys dtro knows, they took a picture. It's not wrong to want to see a little more of a world class fish.

obviously these guys arent as cool as the guys dtro knows,

who said anything about being "cool". They just don't like to take pictures.

I don't share that feeling as I love pictures. I have a full wall in my house dedicated to my fish pics.

So.....knowing that the pictures are the way they are. What should be done?

Seriously

"Sorry we got some bad pics, so we can't even tell you how big it was"

Then all you guys would be chomping at the bit, "whoa that's a big fish, did you get measurements?"

It's a lose/lose

Pretty cool fish..congrates dudes.

smile

No matter what anyone thinks of photos...bet they had fun an also know that is all they are in it for..not fame or their catch being talked about online.

Cool for Ed an VDL crew as just by posting on his web page and one person with big fish critic fevor copying it an pasting it around diffrent sites...well they can almost garuntee more people sign up for Sir Larry Ramsells muskie fish deal 2010.

smile Rock on Sir. Larry.

Shoot I might even go up that way for the week an not crash on our lil island if they would have me an me four hounds.

Gets cold in that lil old cabin of ours come October an showering outside in 22 degrees weather is indeed enlightening for the mind an body but I'm game for some resort fun an musky info sharing at some point in my life...and being warm in the morning.

smile

What a great way to promote a fishery or area resorts.

FREE!

I love it.

Done guiding for the 2009 season but recieved 12 calls and some 22 E-mails since this fish showed up online for info on bookings an info on fall fish locations an techniques.

Been fun typing out bunches of free help to unknown folks looking to best this fish in photos.

How cool it that for a lake, and some fish.

Unreal.

Bet this photo is cut an pasted an passed around this past week more than any female jugs an man love photos you all love to send...PERIOD!

smile

Now this is marketing at its best...FREE....good or bad that is writen or typed online about size of fish or quality of photos taken......BINGO...it brings YOU there.

An that means money for some, fun for others...its all good.....mostly.

smile

Lots of big fish caught each year last 6 years on the big five muskie lakes stocked beginging 22 year ago....sure maybe not 60'ers...but big big fishys an seldom do you see them posted until following spring if ever.

Just how it is as some don't care to share, some have a temper an would hunt down bad typers of their catches an others simply don't share outside a small circle of family and friends.

Its sposed to be fun...muskie hunting...RIGHT?

Well it sure looks like they were having fun to me.....ROCK ON!

Photo critics come an go..it is a normal interet thing each winter...but why not have fun with it an be nice.

Its easy if you try....and most everyone is good inside so don't really buy into this bad guy negative size an photo critic junk...ITS A FISH...get over it and go try to get one yerselfs.

If you can't say anything nice, why bother....it is really none of our biz.

Way I waz taught..put up or shut up.

Bout it.

smile

Best way to keep photo critics in suspence?

I tell ya or show ya next week?

LOL x 1000000000

Keep on Rocken!

They were in a real short boat with a camera with no wide angle lens ... that is why they could not fit the hole fish in the frame. Also, the camera did not have digital stalizer, thats why some of the pic's are blury.

I believe the horse is dead ... so lets bury this thread and move on to more fun topics grin

By the way CONGRATS to the guy that caught that beautiful fish!!

P.S. I vote U.C. off the island wink

So I found out I work at a local store with the guy who was one of the two who caught this fish, Gene. We were BSin at work and he mentioned the Star Trib article and I say 'I heard about the story a while ago online' then say 'did you get any big 'skis this year?'. He said 'just that one.' Haha, I couldnt believe it had no idea it was him!

I havnt read the StarTrib article yet but he told me all about the catch. Crazy wind blowing them into the rocks and the fish of that size lead to a pretty chaotic scene, and some crazy photos. Good guys, dedicated muskie fisherman, caught this fish, I dont doubt it was the size they say.

I'm sure glad the best musky fishing on Vermilion is on the East end.

Then why are all the super tankers coming from the west end???

Fish grow bigger over that way. Just look at the walleyes. Super fishing but all the fish are in the slot. West end big fish. East end little fish..... grin

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
