Twins offseason

Sledneck, that is just Reusse trying to stir the pot and sell some newspapers. They would be crazy to trade Nathan. He only accounted for 47 saves (out of the 87 wins). I doubt if the M&M boys are any more valuable to the Twins than Nathan right now. The Twins will again have a very young pitching staff next year and they need somebody back there that they can rely on in the clutch.

that was a joke trade nathan, yea he blew some saves hes not perfect, we had problems way before he blew the lead in the 9th friday night, Reusse said to put Mijares who has an ERA of 13, and Neshek who just came of Tommy John, good choice trade a guy with 47 saves

Cabrera was good, but his errors were a buzz kill. He had something like 15 errors...not sure how that sits with Gardy. If some of these young guys like Perkins, Tolbert, and Casilla would get their head out of their rear ends and step up we might have a decent core of players. Then we wouldn't have to look for so many infield players each season. I like Harris as a backup infielder because he has better offense potential, but I think Gardy has a man love thing with Punto so I think he will be Gardy's guy. They have players/pitchers they can package and do some trades either for veterans or top minor leaguers that are ready for the majors. Liriano should be traded while there is still interest in him. Twins need to open up the pocket book and get some decent free agents and sign Mauer and Cuddy. Gomez needs to be in the minors and try to be a better complete player. I think Redmond won't be resigned and maybe they'll offer him a coaching job in the minors. What happen to Dickey? I forgot about him. Was he injured or just throwing poorly? I hope Neshak's rehab is going well and hope he finds his form for next year. We could have used him.

Sending Gomez back to the minors for some quality reps may be a very good idea. That would alleviate some of our outfield confusion AND allow Gomez to build value, whether on our major league team or in the form of a trade. There's no doubt that he is an extremely gifted athlete, but it takes more than that in any of our professional sports these days. Watching Major League right now, and Gomez reminds me of Willie Mays Hays (Willie popped every pitch up into the back stop until they made him do pushups every time). Gomez needs to learn to trust his contact so he doesn't try and do too much from the get go. He absolutely has power to go yard, but has to learn when it's appropriate to use it. I would hate to see Gomez go somewhere else and thrive (Bartlett, Ortiz, Pyrzynski (sp?) anyone?). I think we're better off with Mauer than Pyrzynski, but it's a trend nonetheless. I think we're missing on some of these guys because they come up to the bigs a little too early. Send Gomez back down, don't worry about hurting his ego, and let him learn how to be a starter rather than teaching him how to keep himself a spot replacement.

OK people, am I missing something here. We are a SMALL MARKET TEAM. Has anyone gone to a ballgame in MYC. How much does it cost for a person and or a family of 4 to go to the game.

In NYC I think we would have to take out a loan to go.

Hey we can increase our payroll up to 150 million, but the prices for going to the game will go up a bunch also, therefore reducing the number of fans that could go. So attendance will be down and the team would start losing money, therefore they would then CUT their payroll back down again to get within budget.

Congrats Twins on a great year and a GREAT finish. As far as I am concerned the PETER POSITIVES won and the negative nellies are eating crow.

don't know what definition of "small market" is but read somewheres where the twin cities are actually somewhere's in the middle of the "markets" out there and the small market label really doesn't apply any longer other than from a salary perspective.

anyhow, what you are missing gc is that people are throwing out ideas on what they think might help the team become a little better and seriously contend for more than a division title and first round playoff loss in the future. If you read thru the posts, all you will see are a few upgrades here and there. nobody is asking the team to be like the yankees that I saw posted.

the twinkies should've coughed up the one million it took to sign pedro. that would've been nice.

a 4.64 era from pavano in 12 starts with the twins didn't win me over. moreover, the main problem in my mind is that was an improvement from what he had done earlier in the season with the indians.

i agree that a guy like figgins to man the hot corner would be great. doubtful but great. do you take a risk on underachievers like atkins or hardy? not sure...

Like Zepman said "MONEY TALKS" If you are going to upgrade, your payroll will go up way to much for what you all are asking, and that will not happen. I believe 85 million will be our cap.

Greebs, how much should our payroll be for next year.

Zepman your first name wouldn't be Roger would it.

I don't know what payroll should be. I'm hopeful that they do make a few changes in personnel during the offseason to upgrade and think it can be done without spending too much money.

I'm afraid though that they are on the verge of being in trouble salary wise if they decide to stay in the bottom 25% of all teams payroll wise. If they are able to retain Mauer that is a big increase. Cuddy might get extended and that will be for more money. Some of the young pitchers will be due for significant raises soon. Not sure when Span is up for a raise but he deserves a big one.
