gspman
I most likely won't get to go. I haven't even been to a game farm yet. Who's going after the wiley ringneck and what are your expectations?
harvey lee
I will be fishing eyes on Mille Lacs opening weekend for pheasants.I will however be out the following monday and expect a great season. I have been seeing a pretty good number of birds for the last month on the gravel in the mornings after coffee.I will also be chasing them in southern Mn which I also expect to have a great few hunts. It could off course be a bit slow the first few weeks due to the corn in the fields but after that, look out Mr Ringneck. CRAZYEYES
I'm ready. Sounds like the paln is to go out west of Starbuck and Glenwood for the opener. We saw a few out there dove hunting labor day weekend but it sounds like they may be down a little from last year. Unfortunately we can't hunt one of our favorite farms because the old amn died and his son won't let us out there any more and another farm that we hunt they have plowed up a really nice field that has been in crp for a long time and its now just another bean field. depending on how hunting is we might venture down by Masison where we have always been alowed to hunt on a farm. I usually go opener but am more of a late season guy.
rmkod
I will be out in ND opening weekend. I will most likely hit MN the week after that during the week. I hear numbers are down, but the pup is now in her second season and I am anticipating great things.
Scott M
Going to go grousing instead and hit some spots after work when public lands have cooled down some. I'm more of a late season hunter anyways...Crops are going to sit for a few days/weeks while we get some precipitation, that will keep the birds spread out for a little while anyway.Good luck to those going. Dave S
I'll be hitting the public lands the week of MEA. Going to pass on the opener.
jigging-matt
Probably won't make it out on Sat. But should make it out on Sunday or Monday. Wish there were more crops out right now but will offer better opportunity later in the season.
Dave S
Some relatives of mine have been taking corn off like there's no tomorrow.
charliepete
I'm hoping everybody goes after pheasants so I can have the grouse woods to myself. I start hunting pheasants when the crops are in.
muc33
As much as I would love to say I will be out all weekend, I might just take an easy stroll on some of my private ground for a hour or two. The fun times are yet to come for Pheasant season! I don't want to get frustrated too early. The bird counts here in extreme SW Mn are very good again, but with 99% of the crop still in, it will be difficult going for a few weeks here. Good luck to everyone out there and be safe!!! Matt Breuer
gspman, you must be referring to grouse, because you said KING, right? If that's the case, I'll be hunting them on 10/10....
gspman
The ruffed grouse lost his title in the 1940's.
CodyDawg
Yep, I told the wife we will be hunting until we (4 or 5 of us) get our limit...should be home just after lunch. 2 years ago we were done in an hour, last year we were elk hunting on the opener. Optimism? Yep, I love hunting roody! We have some private ground where we have been seeing some birds. Looking forward to it, that is for sure. pureinsanity
I will also be chasing them in southern Mn which I also expect to have a great few hunts.Tom where in southern MN do you hunt them? Good luck on Mille Lacs! Water is chilly. was just up there taking lifts out at the cabin. Eyes should be moving in shallower soon if they have not already! pureinsanity
I am going to one spot on the opener and that's it. Its located near a game farm so there should be some scratch birds there standing out in the open! Normally my official pheasant opener is when deer opens. The one time I can hit all the public lands and do excellent and not worry about other people being out there for pheasants... Plus a few people around the area wont mind me kicking out some dear out of the WMA's....I usually own chase them until its a frozen tundra and blistering cold. And of course not till after the crops are out.
Harmonica Bear
I'll be out in Sauk Center for the annual opener at a friends farm. No big expectations, we'll be happy to get some shooting and bag a few, but we have fun and eat like kings and queens. Sometmes that ain't all bad either. The hospitality at their farm for our once a year group is second to none. I'm hoping everybody goes after pheasants so I can have the grouse woods to myself. I start hunting pheasants when the crops are in. And when you're hunting pheasants with everybody else with crops in, I'll be out in the woods hunting grouse when all the leaves are down. tipup
I will be out Sat morning. Tend to stay away from opener but I have the time this year and why not, the dog is ready, she has been driving me nuts the last few weeks, she knows!!! Hopefully a bird or two if not, it will still be fun!!
