I was out yesterday for a full day. I didnt catch anything except for a few really small sunfishes.

Keep trying. A friend was out yesterday and did real well. He even had the nerve to text me pictures while I was at work. That stung a little.

I was out yesterday and never saw a fish. Didn't get there till about 3:30.

I caught my last one at 3:30 and then we never saw another one after that. seems to me I warned you about that. Glad I didn't fish last night

Square opens tomorrow and I'm pretty excited about it. If it's ANYTHING like last year it should be a fun day.

I'll be there early, anyone else gonna hit it?

What is the best way to target them on square? I usually fish fro pIke and pannies there.

Early in the season the fish are often up near the surface. Then I troll small Raps or spoons. If that doesn't work, most bobber fish, or simply fish straight over the side of the boat with minnows or worms or corn.. Yes, corn. It works surprisingly well.

Hit square on Saturday, caught 4 rainbows. Caught the first 3 right off the bat, losing 5 others also. Then the fishing completely shut down, even for the fly fisherman at the beach. I'm gonna give it another try next Saturday. I know it's been about 20 years since the DNR stocked atlantic salmon in here, did anyone ever catch one?

I'm pretty sure the season closed end of September, but is open for "catch and release" thru Oct. 31.

JB says he just caught them, but here is the special regulation for Square Lake: page 38 of the regs. Trout; catch-and -release from May 14 through June 10 and from October 1 through October 31. remainder of the summer and winter seasons the possession limit for trout is two. good luck.

Is trout season still open till Oct,31st in other lakes in mn or did they change something this year. Im going out for some trout in the morning and would like to know if anythings changed. 5 trout limit till the 31st. Not fishing Square or river streams.

fishing for stream trout in lakes is open till Oct. 31st unless the lake you are fishing is in the special regulations section of the regs on pages 25 to 47 like Square lake is. limits are 5 with not more than 3 over 16 inches unless noted in special regulations in any body of water you are fishing. good luck.

Yep, I'm aware of the special regulations (I wish a few other trout lakes had similar regulations). Looks like the forcast for Saturday is very promising, would be nice to end the season on a bang.

i figured you were JB. if you have a smaller boat head up to the grind if you want some fresh trout. they have to be active there now. otherwise i hope your weekend goes good for you. good luck.

Read in the paper last week that they stocked 2000 more trout this fall. Should be another good ice season.

I'm pretty sure all 4 of those trout were from that batch. They were real beat up looking. Didn't look like the same strain from last year either.

WOW! What a way to end the trout season! Set a personal record for trout in a single day, 27! Ranging from 10 to 14 inches, all caught along the beach. Left area to do some trolling, came back and the bite was dead. A tiny hammer handle pike closed out the day. Any lure, as long as it was green or yellow (firetiger or chartreuse, no good) worked. Awesome day!

Square opens next Saturday. It'll be my first time on the ice this season. Anyone else gonna be there?

How is the ice on Square? I checked Cenaiko today and with the warm weather it's gonna be touch-n-go as to whether the park rangers will allow anyone on the ice at all. They will make their final decision next wednesday and post the lake if they determine that it is not safe. Hoping for the best!

I think I'll end up hitting Courthouse if the ice is any good. I kind of like the circus down there and we put some nice fish on the ice last year.

Not sure first hand what the ice conditions are, but most of the local lakes have 5-6 inches of good ice right now. Doubt there'll be any vehicles out, but atv's would be a good bet by then.

I plan on hitting Square Saturday morning. Will be in a purple Otter towed by a green Honda Foreman.

Haven't fished square in the winter yet. Had great success this past fall, so if I get a chance during sometime next week, I'm gonna give it a go. Maybe try for some trout fed pike while I'm at it. You guys usually use euros/waxies, or are crappie minnows/minnow heads productive?
