Magnetic Holes

It would be fun to hear what people have lost down the ice holes. We all know they are like megnets for anything that drops to the floor of an ice house.

I have been lucky enough to have only dropped a couple flashlights and 1 phone down the holes. Also a couple nice lures while rigging them up.

Im sure this has been posted before. But thought it would be fun to look back at what we have dropped and look forward to not doing it again this year eek

Nothing yet...and I emphasize yet. I'm sure it will happen sooner or later. When that time comes, I've also got some very powerful magnets. Anything that comes with a "Danger Extremely Powerful Magnets" label has got to be good! grin

I lost my deadstick last season. I had to stand up to take a call from the wife while I was running late due to a great late night Walleye bite, and I couldn't reach down quick enough to stop my pole from being pulled off a 5 gallon buck (must have been a pig). I still wonder about that fish.

My step-daughters leg! Actually she stepped in the hole while cleaning them of the chips. Other than her stepping in the hole, luckily nothing has gone down besides my line. Knock on wood. I don't like talking on the phone over the holes and I put my keys in a pocket that I won't go into. So far so good.

Lots of tools wrenches, pliars. A buddies slush inhailer slipped out of my hand once..mostly because he can't drill a straight hole. We put the camera down and it was stuck in the muck vertically. Some tip up line and a big treble hook and we fished it back up. Best fishing we did that day...also saved me 50 bucks replacement fee.

My buddy lost his wedding ring down the hole last year. He hurt his hand out on the ice dropping down the wheelhouse and it swelled up pretty good so he moved his ring to his pinky finger for the day and at the end of the day going to put his coat back on it slipped off and bounced off his boot into the hole.

Last year I was on Spirt Lake perch fishing in about 19 feet of water. It was getting dark and I was alone. I Should have started to head in, but the bite was awsome. Couldn't pull the pigs up fast enough. Once the bite did quit, I started to pack up. I had My mag lite flashlight, and I sliped on the open ice. Flashlight slid on the ice about 4 foot to the 8" hole and sunk down the hole. I slid over and stuffed my hand all the way down, and only touched the tip with my fingers. It sunk a couple of feet and then the light went out.

Slipped down a #6 Chubby Darter...and got really lucky in about 5 min...caught the lanyard and pulled it up. Big smile...very happy guy...yup.

I had a cat take my rod down through the hole last season 35fow. We broke out the camera and after about 45 minutes found the rod, snagged it with a swedish pimple, brought the rod back up through the hole..... and then landed the cat that was still attached to the line. It was pretty early on in the season last year, so my fingers hadn't toughened up yet to the cold. Man, they were like wood after that, but it was funny as heck to see the rod come up, then the cat. my buddy got it on video.

A few years back had my really intellectual cousin tell everyone he would stay up for the crappie bite that was going to ocurr around 2 am on Upper Red. So, 3 of us went to sleep. The dum @ss got tired around 3am and left the bale open on all of the rods, and dozed off. The nex moring I got up. 3 rods were gon and one was left with the spool of line all the way out. Picked up the pole and reeled in 3 ice fishing poles, and 2 nice waldos.

The other time on upper red, my buddy was taking a [PoorWordUsage]. His pole went down the hole, and we stuck a camera down the hole. There was his new pole about 15 feet away. Well my buddy riged up a waldo that we caught with a fishing line that had a hook off of the waldo. About 2-3 hours later and 3 worn out waldos his new pole came back up the hole. Even though he had success, I think everyone wanted to kick his @ss because we never did get a bite while he screwed around.

I had my then 3 year old with me once and not paying attention to her. She was releasing minnows as I reached for a minnow the bucket was empty and she said"they want to be free"

Try Northern Tool.

Classic, thanks for the heads up. Got a 2 year old that might be just like that. Hope you had some good fake bait.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
