alwaysonthemove
what in the world was the 1st kick off? Some of chili's play calls make me pull my hair out. This is not high school football!
Jim Uran
It's called not being a square.. It's good not seeing him SO conservative. I think they did well sticking to the run in the second half. They were depending too muich on the pass in the 2nd quarter, but made some good corrections in the 2nd half. Wow that was an AMAZING run by AP!!!
Dave S
Good to see Chilli win that second challenge. I can only imagine the posts if he would've lost it.
Steve Foss
You guys won the game. Surely that makes all right with the world. Right?
toughguy
I liked the call. I didn't work but it's nice to see him try something different. It was also nice to have a relativly stress free victory.
riverrat56
I've got nothing against the on side kick, if it works he's a genious And AP's last touch down run was CRAZY
harvey lee
I would guess it will be a long season. With the offensive line playing like it did, Farve will not last long. Any good passing team will have a hay day with the Vikes..As far as the 1st play, at home I would have liked it. If the other team scores after the on sides kick, you have now given them the lead in their park and the momentum.
SledNeck
The worse playcalling was NOT running up the gut on the first failed goal line stand.
harvey lee
Chili would try that 50 times straight even with failing the first 49.
alwaysonthemove
yeah 1 yd out and two more downs to pound up the middle at least you won't go backwards
alwaysonthemove
I do think they played pretty darn good. I just cannot get over some of chili's play calls.
Scott M
They made some decent calls in the second half. The inside TE screen on 3rd and long was nice...Heck, the drive that ended with the Harvin touchdown was pretty good. This is going to be the Vikings M.O., run AD and dink and dunk until Berrian and Favre can figure each other out. Actually you could say that about Favre with all the wideouts. I'd expect the Vikes to attempt a few more bombs as the season goes on. It's only week 1, too early to complain about play calls after a 14 point win (more than that if you consider the worthless late TD). I won't complain while they win, but I think to really be dangerous they need the over the top pass, some seams and crossing routes for Shiancoe, fades/jump balls for Rice, screens and flats passes for Taylor, and more of the same with Harvin and Peterson...that's another area of praise really. They used Harvin for 2 rushes and 3 receptions, and he had a few more pass targets that were incompletes. They didn't show too much and didn't ask too much of the rookie. Peterson is a tough kid and I guess if this is the year to make a run for it, they will have to ask a lot of him as far as being on the field for 3rd down, catching passes, taking a bruising 25+ carries a week...You just have to hope he stays healthy and doesn't do anything stupid when going for extra yards.Defense looked pretty solid. Swarming, good tackling. It's nice knowing Allen won't face Joe Thomas every week. Defense should be good as advertised, I just hope the Josh Cribbs punt return was a fluke...that was problematic last year.
Scott K
I will agree with you Scott! As long as they are winning, I will not complain. I think we would have seen more deep passes and new exciting plays if we needed more points, but since we really didn't need to score, why waste the new/ high risk deep plays down field when we don't need to. They don't want to wear out Favre early, if we can keep him to under 30 passes a game, that should keep him in the game longer in the season. We have the best running duo in the league, when it is a close game or we are ahead, there is no sense in throwing the ball, just manage the game and eat up the clock. I had no problem with most of the play calls yesterday.

Born2Fish
They did an excellent job of managing the game. I was a little worried there at first, but then AP came alive and pretty much sealed the deal. Favre is doing what he has to(do not throw interceptions, and make the throws when it counts), and the defense is making some good plays(though we should of held them to less points then we did). PierBridge
Good to see Chilli win that second challenge. I can only imagine the posts if he would've lost it. No kidding. Complaining about football in general is a birth right and some do it better and more often than others! What bugged me most about the play and the TV commentators didn't mention it but if you look at the play it wasn't pass interference. I don't blame the official who has to make the call instantaneously but it was great defense all the way.
walleyes12
I thought chilly called a great game, the onside kick showed the defense that he has all the confidence in the world in them if they dont recover it. The first half was to get the starters feet wet again, they had two weeks off of any game speed and situations. very very basic playcalling. Second half, he let Favre throw alittle more and AP tore it up. I am guessing next week agains the lions will be the same, let favre get more comfortable with the wide recievers, and do what we do best and run the ball. Chad711
It is like a car wreck (posts on the net about the Vikings), I cant help but click and read. But really...Childress, Favre, some other guys just cant win. Espn and others are saying Favre didnt do anything. Do these guys watch the games? He was very good for a guy thats been there about 3 weeks. 14/21 with a Td...3 drops that were right in the bread basket. No passes even close to being picked. Not to mention that they didnt even throw the ball in the 2nd half when Peterson is blasting off runs of 5-65 yards every time he gets the ball.Anyways, if you can't sit back and enjoy this season maybe you should stop watching NFL football. We have a great run D, an ok pass D, a great running game, and a SOLID passing game that will improve as the season goes on. As Mike Tice said, ENJOY THE SEASON... walleyes12
chad711- great post!! Couldnt agree more. Theres going to be fans that are just waiting for the vikes first loss so they can complain about favre or childress
Scott K
I think Favre did exactly what he was asked to do. His passes were for the most part, where they needed to be, but the biggest factor of having Favre behind center, was it opened up the running game. I would be happy with this same outcome 18 more times this year, as long as we win, I will be happy!
zepman
Bingo. They gave us the run so we took it. If they would have given us the pass...we can NOW take that too. It's pick your poison time now for Vikings opponents and it's reassuring that we have a quarterback who'll be able to know when to do what. Is it only me or does Favre's jersey look like it's 2 sizes to big?
PierBridge
They didn't give us the run in the first half. AD averaged about 2 yards a carry in the half. The adjustments with blocking schemes at the half and execution were what opened it up. I think we're reading to much into Favre and what he opened up for the running game to be honest. As far as this game anyway!
muskymaniac4ever
yeah its all good posts now, till they lose that first game, then every post will be all negative, want to get rid of coaching staff, new qb.
