NELS-BELLS
I too have a Nikon coolpix. I have the L18 model. Works great for me and takes good pics. I can't complain. We bought a Panasonic Lumix for my teenage daughter for x-mas and it stopped working within the first month so we exchanged it for a Nikon coolpix L18, which we had to send in to get repaired last week. The lens on the L18 locked up and it would say lens error. We talked to a service rep and he made it sound like that was common with those models. My wife and I have a 4 year old Cannon powershot and it has worked flawlessly.Nels
BoxMN
I had a PowerShot S10 for about 9 years before it died. Dropped by kids, had the lens shutter pieces come off due to a long drop, and I was able to put it back togther and it worked after for about another 5 years till the wh ole thing stopped working. Was out in rain, the metal case had dents in it. I can'y say enough about it.I replaced it with a Canon PowerShot SD1100 (cool blue one, ha!) and it is very easy to use, battery life is good, pics are very good, and amazingly the zoom and the video exceed my expectations. I like it and would recommend it.good luck. Those underwater photos are really cool!

DaBigDog
After having a Kodak and Sony go bad after a year or less, I bought a Canon PowerShot SX100IS (8MP, 10X Optical Zoom). I absolutely LOVE this camera.

Phred52
Pentax Optio W30. 7.1 Mp/ 3X Optical Zoom, Waterproof to 3m, does movies and audio recording. The ONLY thing I could complain about is, the rechargeable battery drains down when the camera isn't being used. Like while it's setting on the shelf. Other than that, I've really been happy with it over the last 4+ years. Phred52
JewellOutdoors
have to echo the comments on the Canon Power Shot - always produces, takes good quality photos and video. I also recommend the FLIP Cam for a simple video recorder, although it doesn't do still shots, it takes great quality video! All you need to do is point, hit the red button, and record. super simple. When you're done, a little gadget flips out of the side, and you insert it in your USB slot, and upload right away. No cords or chargers to lose. Runs on 2 AA's. I've got a Canon for regular stuff, but the Optio goes in the boat, icehouse, pocket on outdoor expiditions. I had 2 other digital cameras fail / break from cold and water. (My bad). The Optio is built for my abuse. Thought about the Olympus, and I'm sure it's a good camera, but I didn't like the fact that you need to purchase the proprietary Olympus storage cards and adapters to download to the computer. Regular SD cards for the Pentax was the kicker for me. I've got 2 Pentax batteries, and haven't had any problems with them draining when not in use. A bit of $ up front, but last longer than AA / AAA IMO. Go Pentax (or Olympus) if there's a chance you're camera's gonna get abused, even on accident, which it will if you take it in a boat / icehouse. bassislife
How are those Olympus for downloading onto the computer or going thru to find the pics you want to save? What kind of batteries and how long do they last? Are they as easy as the Kodaks?
caseymcq
I will put in another plug for Nikon Coolpix if you are just looking for P&S camera. I have a L11 (6mp) that I bought for less than $100. It takes great pictures for a P&S camera and is very easy and simple to use. I bought a Witz Keep-It-Clear case ($7.50) that it fits almost perfectly in. The case keeps isn't very big and keeps the camera safe and dry.

They do use proprietary storage cards, but mine came with an adapter for microSD cards. You can also upload the pictures with the included USB cable. Bassislife - Transferring pictures is just as easy as any other camera. It's pretty easy to scan through pictures you just took and deleting them. I have never used a kodak, so I can't compare. It runs on a rechargeable Li-ion battery. Not sure of the time, I just got the camera about a month ago and have been pretty good at periodically charging it so I have never ran it dead yet. I wish it ran on AA so I could stop by a gas station in a pinch, but it's surely more economical in the long run. I saw replacements on line for under $15 so I can always have a backup in the case.
