Cuddyer should get MVP consideration just for making it so far this season without being injured for more than a week

Delmon might get injured one year, if he ever proves he can play 162 games. But there is one problem with that equation- he doesn't know how to play before the All Star game. So, 81 games after the All Star break he can play minus the games he actually plays leaves about 70 total, so yeah, maybe he won't get hurt. You're right.

I said ONE of the worst, the Viola trade wasn't all that wonderful either.

The Viola trade had a couple of guys who did not pan out but I think Aguilera and Tapani worked out pretty well. Do we win the '91 series without that trade? I don't think so.

Gave up a Cy Young winner, didn't we?

Hey Zamboni,

Young played 162 games for Tampa 2 years ago so he did prove he could play a full season.

He was 10+ years younger than Cuddyer, too. And he still didnt hit 15 HRs during that season. Cuddyer got hit in the foot by a line drive, hardly avoidable and hardly his fault.

Clutch +1 but we just need a lot more of that from him, and no I am not saying he needs to hit a homerun every at bat. But a good at bat would be a lot better then him flailing at pitches.

GOOD job Cuddles, and it looks like you get to play first for the rest of the year wink

but the terms clutch and consistent should never be used in trying to deescribe him.

Game, set, match! is an understatement!

Viola pitched in 91 for a Mets team that lost 91 games, Tapani and Aggie pitched for a World Championship team. That is apples and oranges, my friend.

Yes but the trade wasn't for Tapani. It included other players. To sum it up, the Twins had a .480 clip in Tapani's tenure yet he won at a .528 clip. Tapani had a 2.99 era in the AL and Viola had a 3.97 in the NL. According to the Baseball Almanac the Mets lost 84 games (not 91 as you stated) in 1991 which gives them a .478 winning percentage as they only played 161 games that year. Frankie had a .464 winning % that year. Hardly what you would expect from a Cy Young winner. Are we apples to apples yet?

Overall, Viola had a 64-57 record after the trade. Aguilera and Tapani in their time with the Twins brought 119 wins against 115 losses and 254 saves. How about now? Apples to Apples?

Yes we gave up a Cy Young winner but the parts we got back added up to more.

Sorry, got my stats from Violas wiki page:

In 1991, Viola started out winning 12 of his first fourteen decisions and made the All-Star Game again. However, in the second half, Viola wasn't able to keep it going. As the Mets sank further and further in the division race (after being in contention in most of the early part of the season, they slid all the way to fifth in the division with 91 losses), Viola struggled as well, winning one decision the remainder of the year, his last as a Met, and finishing at 13-15.

I would be willing to bet his run support wasn't near what the Twins put up in 91. I liked having Tapani here, I rented him a car in Minneapolis in 01, and was a very nice guy. He told me he still maintains a home in Minnesota and comes back during the season whenever he can. However, at the time the trade was ranked as one of the worst in franchise history, but not as bad as the Young trade has turned out, IMO

going off of memory again or did you find a bonafide source that shows these clutch stats? last nights hit was huge for him and the team as far as clutch goes. Fortunately they had about six clutch hits that inning but let's not forget it is one game in a very long season and unfortunately it hasn't been a very good season for our boys.

I checked the stats at hardballtimes again and to my surprise he's still 12th on the team with risp and 17th on the "clutch" rating. I'm sure though that the stats takers are probably wrong since someone here has a much better memory than those people who keep stats for a living. Or perhaps it's hard to come back from too many poor at bats in clutch situations throughout the season?

It's pretty simple if you have watched the games they last 3 months who's getting the clutch hits. I did forget about Kubel who has few clutch hits this year also he's pretty close to Cuddy in that department.

Again I could care less what what Cuddy does in the 2nd inning with 2 out and the speedster "kubel" on first.

Oh and by the way more CROW and EGG on the face of Fish58/Greebs/Sled with a 3 for 4, 3 rbi's and another BOMB from Cuddy this afternoon. gringringrin

Good thing he's not clutch in this pennant race that gets tighter by the minute!

Keep Chirping Haters! Keep on chirping!

BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!!

Go Twins and go Cuddy keep on carrying us and maybe some of the other stiffs can clutch up like you are! grin

I ate a small sliver last night for supper wink Like I said before every time we start razzing the Cuddles he produces a little. So do you really want us to stop wink

Heck NO!

I've been waiting all year for one of his patented slumps he's been known for, he's been really consistant this season. Just when it looks like he 's going south he comes back with a good game or big hit!

I tell you what if he has a year similar to this season next year. He's going to be making a lot more than 7.6 Million!

New thread .... Is Cuddy worth 10.5 Million? grin

Dont get too happy if Cuddy has to play infield we are in HUGE trouble.

So far it's been a disaster oh wait that's Kyle Busch and his Nascar season.... grin

Star Tribune!

Since moving from right field to first to fill in for Justin Morneau, out for the season with a stress fracture in his lower back, Cuddyer is hitting .500 (8 for 16) with two home runs and eight runs batted in.And has played near flawless defense!
