PJ, Do you know when the 09' Lakemaster Chips are coming out? And are they going to have much more detail than the 08's?

Have not heard anything definate, but wouldn't be surprised if it was around the time the new endura units hit the market, which is supposed to be May.

In a few years everything will be running the micro cards. better get your Navionics and lakemaster Chips for your exsisting units now before they all go micro. It wont happen all at once but I would say in 5 years the vast majority of our electronics being put out will run micro's.

There is an adapter to use the micro cards in a SD slot. When I picked up a micro for my phone a couple of years back it came with one.

Yep, I have the same thing, a micro SD card with an adapter so it can be used in regular SD slots as well.

I'm not worried about the micro sd fitting in to an SD slot, I'm worried about my regular SD sized cards not fitting into a new GPS that only takes micro sd. I can think of a bunch of different things I'd rather buy with the $350 it would take to replace all my map cards.

Do the new Lowrance GPS/Sonar take an SD card or a Micro Sd card.

The new Lowrance handheld gps units take a micro SD card, the LakeMaster and Nav cards you have now in SD or MMC format won't work in the new handheld units. But the new cards in micro SD format should have an adapter so you can use them in your H2Ocs, etc.

You can see all the new and current models and pricing HERE at Pro Fishing Supply.

Can't you just copy the info from a large card onto a smaller one?

The software on the cards has something in it that marries it to that specific card. You can make a backup copy of the data, but that backup copy won't work unless it is put back on the original card (ie. make a backup copy from your card, lose your card, and your backup copy is useless). It's how they prevent illegal copies of the map cards from getting out there.

I see they went with the mini USB for power options.

This is good! Atleast you can use your phone charger to also charge the handheld GPS.

Someone decided that standardizing is better than every piece of electronics you own has to have it's own charger grin

I guess this would be a form of Green?

Most likely the micro chips will come in an SD adapter. This is what Garmin does now with their micro chips. The micro chip pulls out of the adapter for micro units, it's left in for units that take SD size chips. LakeMaster will continue to produce SD size chips for the foreseeable future, in addition to the new micro versions.

I would guess the majority of people aren't concerned about using a microSD card in a standard SD slot, it's the other way around.

Some guys have quite a bit of money in the standard SD cards, and if the GPS/Sonar companies want us to upgrade to microSD, it would be a good gesture to somehow subsidize the extra cost of all the new LakeMaps, or have LakeMaster/Navionics offer a discount price for upgrade.
