MN Wildlife is Awesome!

You have to love living in Minnesota.

Where else can you see these things in one weekend??

Last weekend my buddy and I did a final horrah of snowmobiling and a little ice fishing.

While fishing we saw a bald eagle swoop in a grab a fish out of the open water (where the Nokasippi River comes into the lake)

We then began to catch crappies and perch.

A little while later we headed on down the snowmobile trail for a fabulous 75 mile loop. While sledding, we were stopped by two other riders that showed us a rough grouse on the side of the trail. The thing would come right up to you and peck your hand as you held it out. That was strange. I've never seen a tame grouse in the wild before.

30 miles later we had a wild turkey fly up over our head and another bald eagle circling above- and a few deer here and there.

The next morning Sat. we got up early to trailer to a spot north of Aitkin to ride a trail we've never been on before. At 6:30am we were driving on Hwy 18 headed toward Garrison and saw something in the ditch that didn't look like a deer. We turned around shined our lights on it and it was a big timberwolf. He was eating something in the ditch- he looked at us for a second and then took off running into the woods. We couldn't believe our eyes!

Later in the morning we came across some more deer and counted 9 all together that we seen while snowmobiling both days.

How spoiled are we to live in this beautiful state of ours?

Don't you love it??

Speaking of loving living in Minnesota, I enjoyed a great view tonight while crappie fishing and as I sat there in 3 inches of water I thought I couldn't live anywhere but here. And speaking of bald eagles I got to see one come and pick up a tullibee of the ice that someone left out there. Quite awesome.

It is deffinetely nice seeing all the wildlife. The weather must realy have the deer moving around. Yesterday, as I was pulling up to my house from ice fishing there was three deer in the field next to my house. After going in side for a little bit and coming back out to unload the gear from the fishhouse and truck, there was about 20 deer in the field. I see three, four deer run through my back yard once and a while, but to see roughly 20 was realy cool. i got out the binoculures and watched for a while. I live in sartell, on the outskirts, but still in town and to see those deer made a long trip home from lake of the woods a nice present being back.

Was working today out by Woodbury and saw 1/2 dozen redtails, a hawk that I couldn't ID (looked almost like a peregrine but that's not likely), 14 turkeys and 3 pheasants

Turkeys were already rounding up their hens and sparring, it was pretty sweet. Nothing major but sure looked like they were enjoying the weather smile

Gotta love that even in the metro you can see great wildlife

The metro area has several breeding pairs of Peregrines so it's highly possible that's what you saw.

Just saw something for the 1st time. Heading west on hwy 10 in Ramsey, a Bald Eagle was eating road kill right in the road! Cars, including mine, were flying by it, and it never flew away. Really determined to eat that road kill. Wish I had my camera on me.....

The wild life thing is something alright. On the St.Croix I would go fishing where not many ventured and it was cool. There is a chanel with open water year round watching and hearing the Trumpeters come in and out along with the Canadian and everything else was like I was in the middle of it all. Sometimes at night those Trumps would drown out the Canadians as their horns would echo through the valley. And the eagles what a display. Going in for the catch an it just does not get old. Eagle comes through and the ducks scatter.

I dig hearing the toms gobbling in the morning as I walk to my garage before leaving for work. Starts the day out right.

It's getting to be the season to sit on the bench in the back yard and watch the sun set over the Rum with one in my hand. grin

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
