The Sheriff rides again

The United Football League, a startup founded by San Francisco investment banker Bill Hambrecht, has tapped four ex-NFL coaches, including the Minnesota Vikings' Dennis Green, for its first season.

Green will coach the UFL’s San Francisco team, which will play in AT&T Park. Green, who also coached the Arizona Cardinals, was an assistant coach under Bill Walsh for the 49ers and also at Stanford University.

UFL teams will also represent Las Vegas, New York and Orlando. Jim Fassel, former head coach of the New York Giants, will coach the Las Vegas team. Former New Orleans Saints coach Jim Haslett will coach in Orlando, and Ted Cottrell, defensive coach at several NFL teams, including the San Diego Chargers, Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, will coach the UFL team slated for New York.

The UFL has said that it is likely to get former NFL quarterback Michael Vick to play for one of its teams. Vick was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, and he was the starting quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons until 2007 when he was suspended by the NFL for his involvement in a dogfighting ring. He plead guilty to criminal charges and went to prison, but he's expected to be released this summer. The Falcons have been trying to trade him around the NFL, but they so far haven't found any takers.

The UFL will pick up players in July, choosing those not drafted by NFL teams.

They will never learn will they. smirk

The only thing they did right was to have the season run during fall when football is king.

In order to compete with the NFL, they need to put a good product on the field. Sign some big name RESPECTABLE players who have some talent.

The street ball thug junk isn’t going to fly...plain and simple.

Same old Denny Green. Not one thing has changed about him. He was on Mike & Mike this morning. Same conceited , arrogant S.O.B. he always was. For a guy who never has assembled his own team and won he sure thinks he is a great coach.

They are trying to run their league the same way minor league baseball works. Trying to use players who are the last cuts from NFL camps. There will be no stars in the league.

More of a developmental league if you ask me.

That don't always work, either. Look at all the marquee names that were in the USFL, and that folded. The only thing the USFL can brag about is that it actually lasted for a couple years.

Just another scheme for the rich to make money. They know it will fail but some how they make money off it then others are left to pick up the pieces.

But hey maybe they have the comedian approach to it and the sheriff is the head liner. Be a good league for Childress though there is nothing funny about him.
