Nomar to Oakland

ESPN Reports:

Nomar Garciaparra and the Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms on a one-year deal, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.

The A's will make the announcement on Friday, the Chronicle reported.

Conversations between Garciaparra, who had been contemplating retirement, and the A's have been percolating for a couple of weeks.

Garciaparra, 35, batted .264 in 55 games for the Dodgers last season, as he battled injuries. Oakland's interest in him is presumably to help them balance their lineup: The right-handed hitting Garciaparra hammered lefties last season, going 19-for-56, with four homers and a 1.067 OPS. The Athletics are heavy in left-handed hitters, with left fielder Jack Cust, designated hitter Jason Giambi, first baseman Daric Barton and third baseman Eric Chavez, among others.

oakland is stacked this year

Seriously?

Holliday is good but the thin air in Colorado may have inflated his numbers. Chavez has back problems, Punto is better than Nomar, Giambi is all right. Their pitching is ok. They will probably finish 2nd behind Anaheim in the bad al west.

Biff, Nomar is better than Punto? Seriously? Duuuuude.

Nomar's career average is .314. He was an All-Star & garnered a few MVP votes as recently as 2006.

If you want to bump him based on his injuries, no go, Punto's gets hurt plenty. He is a few years past his prime, that's fair, but to compare him to Punto...well, ah, no.
