That's a tough age. I know I loved to go fishing but even then had a hard time being still for a long period of time. I'd shrug it off as a phase......good luck, he'll learn sooner than later what the ol' man is talking about. wink

The last couple years he'd fish with me all the time. This year I cant get him out to the house. He'd rather stay at home bossing his little sister around. He's 7 now.. I hope it's a phase.

I hear you, I've been going through this too. Mine son will still go most of the time. But when he's home it's the bossing thing. I think it's a phase, and I too hope it goes away soon.

Keep the faith!!!! As many know on these boards, I am as about as die hard an angler as it gets.. It was not till I was age 12, that I was hooked. Up till that point I could take it or leave it. But it was at age 12, that something seemed to click.. From that point on.. as my students say now... " Its on like Donky Kong".. which cracks me up, because I am sure none of them have ever played the game.

Kylersk, at that age you have to have some other things to do out there for him, Vex or camra to watch, snacks and pop. Stuff to keep them going? My son is 20 now and I think I may have forced him a little to much by keeping him out to long when he was younger and for the last few years he really doesn't want to go unless we bring the bigger house, the weather is nice, and I talk him into it. I should have noticed the signs when he was younger, for example the time we were out on Mill Lacs not getting anything of course and I wanted to trying one more spot, for about the 20th time that day! smile So we're in the middle of this big group of houses, nice day, everyone out playing pout football cool And he stops and screams at the tops of his lungs. "This is stupid" mad Of course everyone looked up like what's your point kid? And went back to their festivities!. So I think I may have burnt him out to young! Keep it fun and a special thing to do with Dad! wink

My son is never interested in fishing either. He is 13. I thought about fishing every day for about 6 months with out him with the hope that he may eventually miss me and want to come along. Unfortunately a job and a wife does not quite allow for this.

Like the others said keep it fun and be patient. Your daughter look old enough to fish, maybe she has wants to give it a try. I have an 8yr old son and a 5yr old girl they both love to go fishing with dad, but not for the whole week end. If I was to spend the whole day at the fish house with the kids I would need a lot of thing to keep them buys. (books, games, cards, snacks and what ever you can think of. If you want your son to go next time take your daughter and make sure she has a ton of fun and take plenty of pictures.

younger kids get bored easy.

When I was a teenager and throughout my early twenties I had little interest in hanging out with dad in boat all day. Now I regret all the time I could have been out with dad rather than wasting my time screwing around, partying, and chasing girls.

Your boys will come around.

Sounds just like me then I lost Dad at 19 and wish I could have some of that lost fishing time back. But in high schools girls, sports, and goofing off took over for a few years.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
