Smallie trip in Wisc any suggestions?

Well I don't know about resorts (I prefer to find my own fish, explore, and not spend money on a hotel or resort)

but the Wisconsin river has skis and great smallies. And the Hayward area has lots of both as well. You could always do a trip to one of the great lakes too

Yellow lake has good musky and walleye, not so much for the smallies. Yellow River where it dumps into the Croix may be a better option for smallies. You could stay at the casino in Danbury.

If the water levels are high you should be OK. If they are normal to low I would pick a lake. I've been up there in a river pro and there are really shallow stretchs of sand inches deep not to mention rock piles here and there and old logs.

I cracked my lower unit on the Sippi a few years ago. I feel your pain.

Maybe Yellow has huge largemouths? I know it has one of the two and they are very underfished and grow big.

I haven't caught any largemouth when I've been fishing it (mostly for skis though). Caught a few smallmouth out of the channel but they were small. My guess is most are in the river, which is too shallow...

The Chippewa and Flambeau rivers would be a good bet, Cooter knows both well I'm sure he could help you on those. The Holcombe Flowage also has some nice smallies, but I think the overall population is pretty low.

Funny Yellow was brought up.. One of my most fun fishing and not catching memories was from that lake a few years back... Was fishing a deep weedline with a bud, when out of nowhere there was a feeding frenzy, fish busting the surface like crazy.. couldnt tell what they were eating, but they were 4" -6" largemouths just destroying whatever it was.. Had to been a school of about 40 fish. It lasted about 3 mins and was done.. coolest thing I have ever seen.

If any of you got to watch Babe Winkleman's show this weekend, you will see just what Northern Wisconsin has to offer as far as smallmouth bass go. The guide with Babe was Jeff Evans (my brother inlaw). This guy knows what these lakes are all about. It also shows Deer Trail Lodge as the Resort. I have stayed there many times and would recomend it to anyone. Its in the middle of heaven. I try to get up there a few times a year and have never had a bad trip. Lots of lakes so if the weather is bad you can plan for it. Hope this helps you out!

I will have to look for that babe winklewan show, maybe I can download it somewhere... To be honest, I think we would like to fish a lake instead of a river. I will have to look up Deer Trail Lodge, thanks for the suggestions and keep them coming smile

Do you fish Delta lake, or the ones around it? Which ones have smallies?

The ones around there for the most part. The pike chain is really good. There is a bunch of Largemouth in the delta and tons of crappies and sunfish. Each cabin gets its own boat with like a ten horse motor on it as well if you just want to use that for a quick day out there. I always stay in cabin 3 if it makes a difference to you. Good Luck!
