I have the Big Buddy,Little Buddy.. I use them in my perm. 8x8, and my portable 4x6, and my one man flip over.. Somtimes one will do ,temp. etc.. I did have one propblem last year turning in the 1lb. canister.. It stripped the threads easily.. My fault.. Now I just leave the hose on for the 20 lb. tank.. I like them..

i cut a pop can and made a little sheid over the small pilot just cut it so you could run self tappers into metal and bent the alluminum on the side to kind of cup that plot works sweet when you flip up trap doesnt blow out ...will be upgrading popcan to a shingle tin or something a little thicker pop can pretty weak after just 2 years

My little buddy sits on a shelf in my garage collecting dust next to the 5 cats that have moved in and seem to breed in my ice shack during the summmer.

I have a Yukon and it just did not keep it warm enough. It was a great little unit, just a bit small for my shack. I also had a horrid time trying to thread those little 1 pound tanks. I ended up spending the money on a long hose to 20 pounder outside the house. I ran it about two seasons and put it to bed.

Of course the next year I went back to the old heater on the propare tank and a buddy caught himself on fire trying to save a sunfish. His coat put off more heat than the Mr. Buddy or the Little Buddy and he only had minor burns so....

I run a disclaimer every time I light that heater.

i used my buddy heater, every way even in the boat while duck hunting.

Man, you must hunt on calm days. I yawn and my pilot lite would go out.

I've retired my Buddy. 1st year -loved it. 2nd year- some problems keeping / gettin pilot lit. This year- could not keep pilot lit for lovin' or money. Seems like you either love em or hate em. Lots of others have had the pilot issue (discussed recently). Through mine away before it read a possible fix. But after reading more of the same problem I was having, stayed with the bullet-proof Cooker. Good luck.

is there any propane lines that are a little more flexible than the buddy heater extension hose?? i have the 12 footer and its always coiled and cant get the stiffness out of it

Nope!

BTW, its nice to here some positive reviews on the buddies for a change!! I used to have a buddy heater and sold it to a guy I work with when I bought the big buddy. The big buddy is too much heater for the new Otter Ice Cottage. Wish I would have kept the little buddy!!

I have a sunflower that heats my yukon portable and the only problem with that is the way back holes get a minor ice layer since the heat don't go that low to the ground decently. Usually run it on low to med only even on the coldest of days for the past 3 years now. A friend had the buddy heater and just didn't heat the house nearly as good as my sunflower. I do worry about taking the nephew with just so he don't touch the heater. Otherwise i would go with the sunflower over the buddy just in my experience. Put rubber mats down also takes care of the feet getting a bit cool.

Good luck and have fun.

IMO there is no heater that will compare to the sunflower, as far as heat. That being said, I have burnt too many coats, portable canvas, gloves, ect. The only reason I switched to the buddy was to reduce burning up everything that comes within 4in of it. I do like my buddy, it heats very well. The only thing I cant stand is: wont light when wet. wont light in the wind. any little vibration and the thing shuts off..........I admit I am a buddy heater user when I fish locally, but if I go to LOW I bring the sunflower. In that environment I just want gear that works, and in my experience the sunflower has never failed me. You could light that thing in a blizzard into the wind, and it would stay lit.

I agree ZEEK all of us locals run double sun heaters in our otter Mag Lodges. I was out yesterday and when the sun starts going down it gets cold we needed both sides of the heater. I have modified my so that I can run it off a hose and sit it on the Ice like the cooker style only double and stronger no broken thermo couplers!! That being said the Buddy heaters are great if the trail is smooth and short because when guys start banging them around they just don't hold up. Plus they are expensive and are alot more complex the the sun heaters. I think the place for the buddy style heaters is for the folks who drive pickups out on the ice for fishing. Nice heaters but not for all purposes. I own both buddys so I know.

I'm another guy with both the sunflower, and the big buddy. I greatly prefer the big buddy when conditions are decent for the same reasons already listed, but the sunflower is a lot more reliable. If you end up getting a buddy buy a fuel filter for use with larger propane tanks and a hose. My first big buddy quit working, and I'm positive it was because I wasn't using a filter. Luckily mine had a factory recall so I got a new one for free anyway.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
