"gomers" are gonna keep shooting, they don't really care what the tags say or what the DNR says. I have Party hunted and Stand hunted. I enjoy both. When we party hunt in Iowa, it is very productive, when I hunt SE MN, I stand hunt or still hunt. More work, more frustration, more fun? Not more fun, but a different kind of fun I guess.

I don't think new legislation is gonna change the un-ethical hunters out there. The DNR is swampped and need our help in calling in TIP when we feel there is a violation. If you have a gomer in your hunting party, get him/her converted to thinking and hunting ethically. Not because the DNR is gonna get 'em, but because of the reasons many of you have posted here. Keep in mind, this could be a multi generational gomer too

96trigger, you said cross tagging bucks should be illegal, did you mean bucks only or cross tagging deer in general?

Well said Picks.

The cheaters will always cheat.

The deer hunting is suppose to be fun and not everyone has the needed skills to harvest a wise ol buck unless they are very lucky. Why can't we just go out and enjoy the outdoors and if we harvest a buck larger than average, be happy about it?

Picks, I would like to see cross tagging of bucks eliminated. We are technically only allowed one antlered deer tag anyway. Antlerless can get crossed, but whith many areas having bonus tags, there really isn't a need in SOME areas anymore. (notice I never said all areas) We have party hunted for years, but haven't had the need to use someone elses tag since the area was removed as a lottery area.

I understand. It comes down to hunting party ethics, my first year deer hunting a guy shot a buck, wanted to use my tag so he could hunt later in the week around Whitewater state park. He wasn't back the next year. The hunting party removed him the next morning. Enforcement of this will be tough if not impossible.

Yep, I know, but I think that it would be better than the alternatives, I.E. antler restrictions or EAB. I am not even sure why MN would think about implementing EAB. In Wisconsing EAB was because the deer had overpopulated. In my area, even though its intensive harvest, I would not say that it is overpopulated with deer.

I have heard horror stories about EAB and the lenghts some of those people went to get a buck tag, i dont know if i would like it or not, would it help the buck population i think it might but i know everyone woule HATE IT. All i know is we bought some clover at cableas today for a very good price so thats my first step this spring to increase my chance at a nice deer and help out population

Enforcement would be tough but eventually a few guys will get caught and over time people will accept it. You will alwasy have people that break the law, not much you can do about that. Think about this, tresspassers stealing deer stands are hard to enforce so should be pull the rule off the books? Now I know cross tagging a buck and stealing are not comparable but I was just using that as an example.

I'll take EAB over the status quo.

But I think it will be pretty easy to register the same doe 50 times, as the 17 year old with the acne problem at my local hardware store doesn't even know how the machine works, let alone actually getting off his butt to go look at my deer. But most guys will follow the law, and the ones that won't will always be there.

There have been a couple articles in recent Outdoor News by full time writers complaining about the same things. I think we're going to see some changes soon.

It is very sad i dont remember the last time i got a deer, or was with some who got one and registered it the person went to look at it, they dont really care. The cops send stings out to catch people selling to minors, the DNR should do the same during deer season if they dont look, fine them. Poaching vs Selling a drink to a minor who already drinks. Which is worse?

the "hunters" (guys who go up north opening weekend only all year and shoot anything that moves) will complain, while hunters (guys who put the time in all season to scout, food plots, cameras, etc) will probably see better deer out there.

Not everyone is lucky enough to be able to afford land to plant food plots on or place cameras on without it being stolen. To imply your A "hunter" and others are not because you have access to to private land doesnt make you a hunter... it just make you look like a Pr#$k#^.

i never said i am a hunter because i have private land. A hunter is a person who actually puts time into a hunt doesnt matter if its public land or private, i also hunt public land by my house and im around there as much as i can looking for deer and what not. I have no sympathy for the one week a year hunter who cries about not getting a deer.
