Heggies is tops in my book. I do think the six-pack style of Heggies is too salty and kills the flavor. Italian Inferno is best. I also like Pizza Corner, but tough to find in the metro. Kettle River makes a great breakfast pizza for the fish house.

I recently saw a frozen pizza that looked goo. I think it was called Firehouse or Fireman's and the package said made in Lakeville, MN. I saw it at H&H in Maple Lake. If anyone knows of this pizza please post.

Well if kids like it better, you just killed it for me. They like party pizzas better also.

Yes my kids like the party pizzas too for some reason, but between heggies and kettle river they preferred kettle river. I personally like them both, with the edge going to kettle river.

Finally got to try a Heggies but not sure what the fuss is about. Didn't think it was anything special. Better than Tombstone or Red Baron? Sure. But it ain't no Pizza Corner.

Never heard of Pizza Corner. There is probably a reason you see Heggies everywhere and not a one "Pizza Corner"

Just sayin...

It is not bad actually. I have had several of these but under the influence of a few adult beverages. So they all taste good at that point. I will get you more info. There is also a firehouse salsa that is really good. I know the name of the guy who makes it. I will PM you and give you the details if you want to buy some.

Pizza stone or no? I used to use a well heated stone, but the bottom of the pizza never got crispy enough. I now just use the middle rack and preheat for at least 10 minutes. Will find out what a Green Mill thin crust frozen pizza tastes like tomorrow.

Picked up a Davanni's frozen deep dish pizza at Cub last weekend, it tasted just like it was freshly delivered from Davanni's. Two thumbs up.

When the instructions for cooking it included "butter up the pizza pan real good" or something like that, I knew it wouldn't be bad. wink

Never tried Davannis or Pizza Corner but have ate all the rest.

My question is this,

Doesnt it seem like all the frozen pizzas now are just garbage? Compared to say 10 or 15 years ago?

Whats up with that?

I went throught the Heggies thing... that got old after about a year. Greasy and salty but not bad once in a while.

Gourmets are pretty decent too.

They just dont make them like they used to. In my opinion.

Preheat the stone in the oven and right before you toss in the pizza put olive oil all over the stone and give it a minute to heat up and put your pizza in the oven.

I never heard of "Heggies" until I moved here and have only seen them at one gas station. For being so popular I sure haven't seen them much.

Check your local bar....pretty much all you see is Pizza Corner....if it's a reputable bar, that is. smile

I'm glad I finally found a "Heggies" to give it a try after hearing such stellar reports about them here. Now after trying them I can confidently say that Pizza Corner is king....in my book at least. yumyum.gif

Just sayin... wink

Tie between Shirk's Tavern PIzza and PIzza Corner. Can't find Pizza Corner easily where I live now (found some last year in the Ely Pamida and STOCKED UP), but lots of Shirk's here. They both kick butt on all other frozen pizzas I've had. pizza.gif

As a former pizza store manager, I think they are the closest (that I've found) to actual takeout/delivery pizza. Sauce and crust are in my mind the two keys differentiating most pizza brands. I give Pizza Corner the edge on the crust, but like the Shirk's sauce just a bit better. Way too many frozen pizzas skimp on the sauce portion, too, but these don't.

Helped a buddy and his GF move last weekend and they were ready to order Pizza Hut, but we talked them into guying a couple Shirk's frozen at the grocery store, and golly but they were surprised at how good it was. And half the price of delivery za. Not that beating Pizza Hut is all that hard. The bar there is definitely low.

As previously mentioned, the thicker Shirk's varieties with lots of ingredients need the crust protected by a pan so the whole pizza can cook through and get brown on top without burning the crust. Or at least put on the top oven rack. Or both, depending on your oven/settings. But pizza cooking vigilance is rewarded with Shirk's, and I often drop the recommended temp on those about 50 degrees for a longer and more consistent cook-through.

You know, PC or Shirk's and a few beverages in the tavern with good buddies after a hard day's work, or hard day's fishing or hunting, is about as close to heaven as it gets for a working man. Come to think of it, it's time to take a trot around Ely and find out who has what for pizza in the taverns. It's between seasons, after all, and a guy's gotta have some reason to look for trouble. If I can't find some Shirk's or PC in the taverns here, might have to drop a kind word. devilgrin.gif

It would be purely insane to have an HSO frozen pizza-off! Seriously, never had a Heggies. Gonna have to try that one. gringrin

I know, I know, that's a lot to say about stupid frozen pizza, but pizza is one of my three all time favorites. It really deserves status as its own food group. Sorry 'bout that. wink

I just ate a california kitchen pizza and thought it was whorrible!

I have to agree they are the worst. I tried the bbq chicken pizza and it was possibly the worst thing I had ever tasted.

Yup, way over-priced and doesn't have a kick or some unique quality that you'd expect.

PS, a buddy of mine, who built a $3000 outdoor pizza oven last year, used to pre-heat at his oven at 500 degrees for 45 minutes before cooking the pizza. Of course, these were homemade pizza's that he would order the dough from Italy.

Where can a guy find a Pizza Corner or a Shirk's in the TC area? Let's just say I trust Steve's judgement (the gut don't lie) cool.

I dunno. You might check around. Might also put up a post in the Metro forum asking that question. Or even a separate thread on this forum asking that very question. I bet some folks with their eyes on the important prize will have that one dialed in.

BTW, the gut is gone. I lost 60 lbs over a year ago and kept it off. Still eat pizza, though. Just not as much. Guy my age has to pick his spots. gringrin

Ya, I'd heard that you lost a bunch. Congratulations. I shouldn't talk...but I started my situps and along with the wife's "good for you" cooking, I'm hoping to do the same frown. Life is too short to be too short. But life is too short to short yourself on pizza laugh ! Conundrums are a conundrum.

I can't find Pizza Corner around the metro (except for bars). It's more prominent in western areas and if I'm travelling back from ND I usually stop in Fergus at the Cenex off of I-94 for fuel and a Pizza Corner.

I see the P-C delivery truck quite often around here (west of the metro) though, and more than once have been tempted to hijack it. grin

It ain't a diet. It's a lifestyle change. And that's almost a change in personality. Well, almost. wink
