smartguy
From the Boston Herald:Fur flies over flier: PETA targets ‘Nutcracker’ kidsBy David WeberWednesday, December 17, 2003Animal rights advocates will single out small children at performances of ``The Nutcracker'' in the next few weeks by handing out fliers saying ``Your Mommy Kills Animals'' to youngsters whose mothers are wearing fur. ``Children can't look up to a mom in a battered-raccoon hat or a crushed coyote collar,'' said Ingrid Newkirk, president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. ``Maybe when they're confronted by their own children's hurt looks, fur-wearers' cold hearts will melt.'' The fliers include a color drawing of a woman plunging a large bloody knife into the belly of a terrified rabbit. The fliers urge kids to ``ask your mommy how many dead animals she killed to make her fur clothes. ``And the sooner she stops wearing fur, the sooner the animals will be safe. Until then, keep your doggie or kitty friends away from mommy - she's an animal killer.'' Brookline child psychologist Dr. Carolyn Newberger called the tactics ``terribly dangerous to children.'' ``It's using children in the worst possible way,'' she said. ``If (the activists) want to legitimately work to protect animals from destruction for fashion, they have every right to. But to do so by targeting children and making them feel their mothers are murderers is absolutely unconscionable.'' Lisa Franzetta, a national coordinator for PETA, said the group will launch its ``fur-ocious'' protest at `Nutcracker' performances in as many as 20 cities across the United States. Franzetta, who is based in California, said yesterday she did not yet know when the protests will begin in Boston, where ``The Nutcracker'' is playing at the Wang Center for the Performing Arts in the Theater District. Franzetta acknowledged the anti-fur campaign might spark a backlash. ``It's definitely provocative, I will give you that,'' she said. Wang Center officials could not be reached for comment about the planned protests.JUST WHEN YOU THINK THEY HAVE SUNK TO A NEW LOW, THEY GO ONE NOTCH LOWER. DISGUSTING, AND TOTALLY IRRESPONSIBLE! Lunker
Yea, heard about this this morning on KQ, really makes me sick. Targeting kids, thats as low as they can get besides violence. Makes it hard to restrain yourself against these people. As my father said when i told him about this "if someone gave showed my kid that, I'd belt them". I agree, although I know this would give them ammo against us... Another one in the news recently is the New Jersey bear hunt, and PETA and other groups are getting musiscians to go out in the woods and play near hunters. Really sucks
opsirc
these people are sick indeed, they are only alive because its against the law to shoot them.

hunt4food
My 6 year old daughter would set them straight. She loves my coyote fur hat and my alaskan Wolf mitts that I wear for ice fishing. She keeps asking me when she can get one just like it. She thinks it's pretty cool that her daddy takes her hunting and she likes to eat the wild game they harvest together. You can't start them too young!!
Guest
For the sake of our peace and sanity lets end this conversation as they may read that we love our fur hats and deceide to picket FM events as well. Remember we are on the net and a bazillion ++ people read all of our good notes.Do they dare come up here? Kinda like the Bayou but reeeeely cold...------------------en puhu kala(I speak fish)
scalescratcher
One of the few things missing in my life is the ability to discuss face to face some of the &^*ls*it these people continually attempt to pollute minds with. It's amazing that for as much dump as they spew that I've never ever met one. What a waste!
Jarrod32
Referring back to the original post, about their specific activity...Part of the problem is that people have come to expect all kinds of egregious antics from these people. Just dumping blood on people isn't 'news' anymore...they need to keep getting more and more offensive to garner attention. To an extent, this is good...it means that for the most part, people are ignoring them.

wade22
when i envision the musicians interrupting the new jersey bear hunt, i close my eyes and imagine rod stewart, michael stipe and yanni getting grotesquely mauled by a startled black bear mother and her cub. without pepper spray, a knife or even a semblance of common sense, yanni attempts to beat the cub off with his saxophone while michael stipe wets himself. the soiled clothes of stipe combines with all his greasy petuli oil and enrages the mother with such an offensive smell that she ravagely devours a weeping rod stewart whose last cry heard is for help from "maggie". with stewart and stipe gone, yanni crawls back to camp, swears off PETA and playing the saxophone forever, and becomes an avid black bear hunter. Aquaman01
Good point - I hope they are reading this...Man, most folks who know me say I stand on the liberal side of moderate, and these kind of extreme tactics on PETA's part just sends more and more folks AWAY from even listening to their point of view. I respect all animals, waste none, and believe all life should be treated humanely and ethically. This does NOT mean abstainance from harvest or use. I agree with Ted Nugent's axiom that "everything in life has a gut-pile tied to it". Think about it, Ingrid. Please, PETA, picket an FM event. A Cat Gathering would be good. You hand my kid a flier, and he can hand you some stink-bait.Rob
Long Gray Line
These people don't get it. In all things, I mean in ALL things, something dies that another can live. We feed on animals that feed on other animals that..... Even the vegans live on the death of others. Plants grow on the nutrients placed in the soil from decayed animals and plants. The vegetarians that argue that they kill nothing, or at least nothing intelligent, are deluding themselves. If you've ever put a plant near a window and seen how the leaves turn after a few days to catch more of the sun, don't tell me there isn't some level of intelligence there. PETA and all other poor delusionals like you, look at the real world. Death is part of existance, it isn't good, it isn't bad, it just is!! Cyberfish
PETA Vegan typs hear this! You must stop driving your cars! Every time you get on the road you are violating the right to live of thousands of poor insects! If it is raining, you can throw in a couple hundred innocent earthworms and an occasional frog! Not to mention all those poor raccoons. (You know why the chicken crossed the road don't you? to show the raccoon, yes it can be done!)Stop the brutality! no more driving, and bicycles are out too, all those poor bugs that might get stuck in your teeth! Don't even walk, because you might step on somethin..er someone. ------------------simul iustus et peccator ><}}}("< ---><!>
