FISHINGURU
this is one of the best drafts i've seen the vikings have...nothing better then seeing teams spend big money on 1st round picks that are a gamble until they prove something...while we sit back and know we got jared allen with ours.did anyone else notice the bears and lions 1st round pick happened to be tackles lol? i think the addition of allen to the vikes could of played a role in them decisions.i was thinking we'd go O-line or WR with that 2nd pick especially with all the WR's that were still there but we ended up with the safety tyrell johnson...many scouts and draft guru's had him ranked as the #1 safety in the draft....not what i expected but a real nice pick imo....we must of started getting nervous cause we moved up a few spots to get him....his scouting report and stats are really impressive...i think he will be a great addition to the new purple people eaters muuahahahahaha!lets see what we can pull out here shortly with our last picks! Dahitman44
Yeah -- it was a good pick. I think we had better look at some O-line issues. Tackle for sure.
Sandmannd
What do you think of taking Booty at QB in the 5th round. Don't know anything about him, but not a bad idea to have a backup brought up. I heard he's simular to Brad Johnson when he was drafted.
bucketmouth64
What a surprise taking Booty. I think he will give T-Jack some good competition seeing that he came from USC and had some decent coaching. You think Bollinger's days are numbered? We still have not addressed the need for o-line, they took another DT in the 5th round. The safety pick was a good one. I think this will be Sharper's last year in purple. FISHINGURU
i like the booty pick....we could of got something else but it's good value for the pick...some say he's one of the most NFL ready QB's in the draft that could be a starter.from everything i heard we were gonna maybe draft the tulsa QB...maybe they figured booty would of been long gone but seeing that he was still there and getting closer we moved up again and took the guy we wanted?we need some solid competition at QB...may the best man win is my motto...atleast if injuries happen or things don't pan out we have a possible starter that could be NFL ready right now. james_walleye
Considering he was rated similiarly to Brohm, Flacco, and Henne i say why not. Good pick.

LMITOUT
So is the JDB pick the beginning of the end for Tarvaris? Or is it the middle of the end or the end of the end? Or the beginning of the middle of the end? I say start him and bench Tavaris. Even with the addition of Bernie Barrian, his time is up
huntnfishsd
Here are my thoughts on the draft...Tyrell Johnson - Good pickup at safety, I see his as the successor for Sharper. Looking forward to seeing him develop! Although surprised we passed on OTs and WRs at this point, considering the talent available.John David Booty - Good value at this point and a guy that manages the game very well. Not a fantastic arm, but nice and accurate, which T-Jack lacks. So, I think it will be an interesting battle in training camp as far as QB goes. He will challenge Bollinger for the #3 spot (I think JDB wins). With the talent of this team, I really believe that Jackson should be on a short leash.Letroy Guion - A player who can add some needed depth at DT. Had a solid year last year, his best of his career.John Sullivan - Maybe a backup solution to Birk? Although I have heard that Ryan Cook will be the man if Birk doesn't come around. Also, could provide some depth at O-Line.Jaymar Johnson - Don't know alot about the WR other that he ran a sub 4.4 40. So, he's fast! I would give this team an A for the draft considering we got the best DE in the league and some decent talent in the draft!
FISHINGURU
forsure...A+ draft considering we got allen...we got some players we needed to fill some holes or maybe even take over a few of our older guys spots after or during the season if injuries happen...not to mention a QB that will either make tjack step up or step down...oh yeah did i mention we also got allen lol?i'll give the vikes orginization an A+++ for this whole offseason.we went out and got the best available safety, best available Wr, best available DE, real good FB, few role players and good back ups...even though the best available aren't always the best at their positions atleast we took the incentive to go out and get the best available players we could get.this year they truely showed the fans that their goal is to win a championship...this is the most excited i've been to watch the vikes since 98-2000 or so when moss was the real super freak of nature.adrian peterson really lit a fire around here...once the vikes seen we have a true franchise back thats young we got to building in a hurry....i was content just watching peterson and getting pumped for this season to see what he can do his 2nd yr.now we got a stud DE in here to add to a line thats already top rank...a wr that can stretch the field...rice's 2nd year...petersons 2nd yr, a couple new safeties, FB, a QB competition....it's gonna be a real fun yr.go out and buy some tickets and merchendise so we can get that new stadium soon! zigy is out trying to build a dynasty here...i definatly don't want to lose the vikes someday! IceHawk
Good draft by the vikes! They added some key depths in postions like s,c,dt, and my personal favorite quarterback. I like the pickup of Booty a quality QB. He has some weak points as arm strength etc but a smart qb that can manage a game. He will be a starter and winner someday IMO. LODFFB
Just reading some different draft related sites looking for draft Grades and they said. Booty has WHAT Small Hands of any sugnificant QB in the draft. thats ok I won my 2nd of back to back Lord Melvins Cup trophy with the Origional Smalley Daunte. FISHINGURU
well they say he's a perfect fit for a west coast offense...real accurate guy to hit on slants & quick outs, ect...thats all we really need is a guy that can deliver the ball to the target when it's easy 1 on 1 and simple coverages when they stack the box against our run...he has a decent arm for the long ball but they say it hangs in the air to long and his decision making is sometimes delayed which makes him to force throws.i'd bet tjack goes into the season as the starter based on his experience but if booty has a real nice preseason and tjack starts messing up and not delivering i'm sure it won't take long for us to throw booty into the game and make him a starter if he out performs tjack.he's a real smart guy...maybe if we work on his mechanics and release a bit we might of got a nice qb for the future.maybe tjack steps up now that he has competition and plays at the level we planned for him to play when they drafted him.if the vikes were as confident in tjack as they first were i don't think we'd make a trade to move up and get booty.SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE....SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE...SHAKE YOUR BOOTY! LODFFB
I agree tjack better step UP. KFAN was talking about Green Bay selecting a QB in the 1st round they got Bhrom in th 2nd. They have a former number 1 pick in Rogers who has been the understudy to Farve for 2 years and last years Dallas game he looked very good. I think if TJ is average or throws a bunch of picks Chilly will say Get your Booty in there. Or I'd be willing to hand off to AP for far less then those guys. huntnfishsd
FISHINGURU-I would have to disagree with you on just one point...Brohm, Henne, and Booty were all available when the Vikes traded up in the second round to get a safety. Yeah, I know they traded up in the 5th, but I think if they were truly worried about TJack they would have taken Brohm in round 2, IMO. But, maybe that's just me!! It's also my opinion that TJack better step up or it might be time to make a Booty call!!!!
Scott K
I wasnt really impressed with any of our picks! First off our top pick, #2 Tyrell Johnson. We go with a small town safety, sure this kidd will most likely take over for Sharper, and add some strenght to our special teams. I question the pick for two reasons, they say they pick BPA, I am pretty sure there were alot better players then him. Second, was safety really a strong need for us? How about OL, TE, QB?Booty? Sure this was a nice pick where we picked him, but to think he will become our next starter, I dont think so! He is slow, injury prone, and has never been a deep threat. If we were seriously looking for a replacement for T-Jack, this isnt it! They should have thought of that in rd 2 when there were some good QB's on the board yet! I see this as a roster spot fill, some one to fill for 3rd string QB until they can find a better fill in. JMO!Jaymar Johnson, WR. Plus sides are great for this late round pick. Fast and with good hands. Down sides, doesnt try to shake tacklers, small frame. I see him as a decent punt returner, possibley a wideout fill in when we want to throw a Hail Mary pass! The other picks, I wasnt impressed with either. They were either injured, or from a small school that wasnt a proven player. Sure these guys may turn out to be something good, I have more faith in the front office in the last few years then I have in previous years, but I just dont see any of these guys being a everyday starter, or even a replacement for the starters we have, that will need fill ins this year, or next. I hope they prove me wrong!
Flaco651
Jackson's got what, a total of 16 NFL games started over 2 seasons? He will continue to get better and will not lose his job to a rookie this year.
slim1
Guru- I like your excitement as I feel the same. If only the QB position was more solid, I believe we could get a ways in the playoffs
Wadinator
IMO, it sounds like a lot of you have way too high of expectations for Booty. He was a decent quarterback on one of the best college teams. He held his own (when he wasn't hurt), no more. He was givin the keys to Daddy's Cadillac and managed to keep it on the road. That's about it IMO.As someone previously said, the Vikes solidified their stance behind T-Jack by not getting a better QB in the second round. I'm neither for or against that decision. I simply hope the Vikes lucked out and made the right decision with T-Jack, but who knows for sure... no one.I know one thing.... I am definitely with Slim and Guru .... I'm EXCITED for this coming season. If (IF IF IF) T-Jack plays solid, we're going to be tough!I should also add... we're going to need to see some solid improvements in PLAY CALLING. Chilly and the rest of the coaching staff need to step up their play calling and half-time adjustment abilities.
Scott M
Nice work by the Vikings. One of their better offseasons for some time.
huntnfishsd
This is by far one of the best off-seasons in recent memory. We filled the needs at DE and WR. Allen will be awesome against the pass AND the run. Berrian will be able to spread the field with Rice opposite him. It will make it tough for defenses to put 8 in the box like they started to do at the end of the year. We added some nice depth at safety with Peter Boulware and Tyrell Johnson. We got a nice value at QB in the draft with Booty. I don't expect him to play right away as he comes into camp competing with Bollinger for the #3 spot. But I like his potential as he ran a similar offense at USC. All in all, I haven't been this excited for Vikings football in a long, long time!! FISHINGURU
well i'm pretty sure tyrell was the best player on our board by a long shot considering we had him as the 17th best player on our board...not to mention many scouts and draft guru's had him ranked as the #1 safety in this years draft class.the good thing about booty is he comes from a big school that plays against solid competition...at this point i don't anyone thinks he's gonna just come in and be awesome..but it's nice to have a potential starter if all else fails or better yet make tjack step his game up....the vikes don't rely on the deep ball anyway.personally i don't think it would of been a good pick to trade up and take a project qb in the 2nd round...a project qb in the 5th is much better...especially when they were all ranked about the same after the 1st or 2nd qb.i think tyrell johnson will be turning some heads this season. FISHINGURU
another thing is you just never know what you get out of the draft...some of the highest prospects turn out junk and then u got late picks or even undrafted players that turn out to be hall of famers.ol tom brady was drafted in the 6th round and his scouting report on him said and i quote " poor build, very skinny and narrow, lacks mobility and the ability to avoid the rush, lacks a really strong arm".and no i'm not comparing booty to brady...just saying u never know...he could be the worst qb in the draft this year or maybe even the best...only time can tell with the rookies.did anyone see or hear that the jags spent more picks just moving up a few spots in the draft to get harvey then we did for allen? costed them their 1st, 2-3rds and a 4th....he could be a stud or a bust.
