looking for fish (funny story)

So my buddy and I are fishing all by our selves on a local panfish hotspot. Start catching a few and down walks a guy w/ a pail and a fishing pole. Nothing else that I can see. He starts scoping out the area looking for open holes. My buddy catches 2 more fish and the guy sees him do this. As my buddy leans to put fish in his bucket, as he does this the guy walks over and starts fishing his one hole that is catching fish. Not a good Idea, my buddy can a big hot head. Buddy baits his hook and turns around... (you shold have seen the look on his face, Priceless) looks up at this guys and asks him, "is this a common practice of yours?" guys says "what?", like nothing is wrong. My buddy chewed this guy out a little and told him what he thought of him. I was laughing inside so hard, I thought this was hilarious and would never happen. But I am proven yet again. My buddy was so mad he reeled up and asked if I minded if we leave, "'cause he didn't want to teach this one-who-thinks-I-am-silly what to use and how to catch these panfish." We got over it on the way home, and laughed a little on how dumb and rude some people can be.

Has any one had any =thing close to this before?

I woulda blown a gasket. If the guy would have just walked up and talked to me, I would drill him a hole or two, but to just start fishing your hole is rediculous. I don't think I woulda left without getting into an argument.

FUNNY story it's amazing the things you see out there isn't it?

WFW's way of handling it would have had me rolling on the ice laughing my "bleep" off! Thats Good! \:D

A buddy and I were night bobber fishing on Big Cormorant a few years back. We anchored and had lighted bobbers out with a small light in the boat turned on. This guys comes flying up to the general area we were at and starts to pull cranks. He comes close enough to us that we had to pull the bobbers closer so he wouldn't run them over. The bobbers were maybe 25-30 feet from the boat. After putting up with this for a couple of passes, I hit him in the face with my million candlepower spot light. He goes past then turns around and does it again! I hit him again with the light. This time he stops and starts chewing me out. All I could tell him was that I'm sure he didn't see us and I wanted to let him know we were there. Goofy.

Ever tried fishing on Mille Lacs?! LOL This happened to us multiple times last summer, except it was during the day.

I was ice fishing on Mille Lacs a few years ago and I stopped the truck in a remote area and drilled some holes near my truck and started working my way to the south. I was about 70 yards away from my truck drilling holes every 10 yards or so when I looked back at my truck. A guy in a SUV pulls up next to my truck and starts fishing the holes that I just drilled minutes earlier. The guy actually leaned up against my vehicle while he was fishing. I proped up my auger against my chest and threw up my hands in the air as to say "What the hay are you doing???". He looked at me for a couple minutes then reeled up and got into his vehicle and left. Amazing.

LOL's was was almost like another buddy of mine...

We drill holes in an empty spot we haven't fished before. We set ourselves up comfortably about 10-15 apart from each other, standard zig zag pattern...finally one guy said that he wanted to drill a spot right smack dab in the middle of us, putting him about five feet between three people. Totally screwing up the zig zag pattern. I chewed him out.

30 minutes later, some body sees me pulled three crappies out of my hole. So as I was unhooking the last crappie and going to get some minnow from the group minnow bucket. Somebody drills about three or four holes five feet away towards my back. Stupid, I feel like that they're watching me and how I fish. My back to them, and three peeps sitting around me. Of all the open spots on the lake, now if I was gonna set up shelter, it'll be tight. I wanted to chew them out, but they had a little kid with them, that they left in the vehicle running. Well we all sat there for about another hour with them catching only one fish. Well I wasn't marking any fish so there was much reason to put any effort into it as I switch baits frequently, between three rods. Then I proceeded to drill some other holes thirty feet away and did hole hopping. People just see me walking madly between holes but I was walking with fish. LOL's I was surprised that they didn't decide to commandeer one of my hole hopping holes.

I just had something like this occur a couple weeks back for the first in a long time. Only one, then a 1 1/2 later I had a crowd around my vehicle. Nothing like people leaning on my vehicle, but enough people I started to not leave things out on ice (ice rods, porty with stuff in it, MarCum). During the confusion, things could have gotten mixed up or lost.

I was polite and friendly, until it was too many people and then I left.

Funny, I never saw anyone else catch fish, but I always welcome company.

I do not look at it as a sign of disrespect, but a sign of respect. It makes a man feel good, when others “think” he is smart whistle.gif.

Now, leaning on someone’s truck, negative/offensive verbal language or anything close to this stuff, I will and have been known to vent heavily, but it is all ways just better to walk away than be carted away by the cops.

Good luck..

Ok I will throw 1 experience at ya. There was 3 of us fishing from a 16 ft boat on a point for BULL sunnies. It was a small lake within 15 miles of Winnie. Between us and the point was maybe 15-25 ft. Good casting distance. We were casting towards and just off the point. No one else around on this small lake.

We were catching a few, just catching and releasing. Here comes an older couple in a boat, just cruising slowly around and not fishing. Plenty of room to go around us, but no they went between us and the point. The first time I gave him a look, and went back to fishing. They went down the point and came back and did they same thing, right between us and the point. Well this time I said something. He then stops and turns off his moter and said, I didn't hear you, want did you say. I said " I HOPE WE ARE NOT IN YOUR WAY", to which he replied in a nice way. No your not thanks for asking, and he kept going. He didn't come back either. I think his wife got the hint.

HA! This is ridiculously funny!

I would not have a problem with someone using a hole I drilled but am not currently using (it would be polite to ask though) but to actually come up and take over a hole your buddy was fishing in, that's hilarious!

You should have definitely had more fun with this guy. At the very least, you should have drilled a hole 2" from the one he stole and left them both slushy before you left.

Back in my younger, long hair, rebelious days, my Dad, Brother and Cousing were fishing the Misouri River south of Bismarck on the Mandan side. We didn't have a boat but cast out with lindy's and were catching decent eyes. An old couple pulled up in a boat and started casting in to us. We yelled to get out since they had the whole river. The old coot gave us the bird. My brother puts on a 2 oz weight and lobs it, bouncing it off the umbrella the old lady was sitting under. The old guy yelled "You better watch it, I have a gun!!" To which my response was to take my hair out of my pony tail, put my fillet knife in my mouth and say "Yea, bring it out big man" as I started wading out to the boat. I got about halfway to the boat and the motor fired, reved up and he bolted. We laughed our butts off for a while. My Dad even got a kick and he is way laid back. I wouldn't do it these days or in the cities cause he probably would have a gun then, but it was fun to see the looks on their faces when this long hair hippie comes at them.

I have used other's stupidity to my advantage. On LIda I threw out a marker off Clay Point. After a while, my cousin pulls up to my boat and asks about my marker. I told him to never throw a marker where the fish are, put it where you want the other boats to go. Usually works.

A couple weeks back my brother and I drilled and searched a basin looking for daybite crappies. About 40 holes or so. An hour later someone comes in on a sled and checks the holes we drilled 10min later 2 more sleds and 3 houses. When we started we were 300 yards from anybody. I just love doing the work for someone else. crazy.gif
