Support Local Bait Shops

I believe we all need to support our good local bait shops. I guarantee you I do what I can both out fishing and here on IceLeaders.com - FM.com.

You will notice a few bait shops linked to in the forums at no cost to them because they are active and work with us.

When you purchase bait, be sure to take a look around for other deals and goodies they have in their bait shop.

I want to give a big Thank YOU to those Bait shops who have worked with FM.com over the years and those who are great fishing ambassadors in their communities.

The Bait Box In Superior Wi. gets all my bussiness whenever possible. They have donated to many of my Contests etc. They even donated a 5 Gal. pail full of goodies for the kids at the F.M. Kids day this summer. Bussinesses like these deserve our bussiness. Helps them compete with the big chain stores. Besides they always know your name.

I work in local economic development in a smaller community, and we work hard to try to get people to shop locally and support the local businesses.

Not only do they know your name, the small local shops also (usually) know their stuff. You ask a question, and you get a good answer...unlike the blank stares you get from some pimply-faced kid at LargeChainMart.

Remember...the local guys pay taxes in your community and are also the people who support your business, too. Having said that, I also believe in supporting the services you use...like this HSOforum.

I'll get off the soap box now, lest I go on for another page or two.

The Bait Box (Superior, WI) and The Gateway Store (Kabetogama, MN) both contributed surplus to tackle give-aways for kids at the 1st Annual Shore Gathering this past September.

Big Thanks to them both; establishments which have earned their excellant reputations time & time again.

Good call Rick! I have been loyal to S&W Bait for years (371 north of Baxter/Brainerd area). But now I will be even more so as I will be heading up the guide service and fish house rentals out of Sherree's shop. We are going with a new look on the shop that should be done by Christmas. With Reeds moving into the area and every other business we thinks it's time for a change. Hope all of you continue to stop by and say Hi, and of course check out the bait, tackle, fish houses, etc.

Thanks,

Walleyedan

I think that if you don't support your local bait shop he won't be there one day. A good local has more info and is more personal than what you get from the computer. Yes we all by something from these machines but in my case only if I need it fast and my local doesn't have it. As a matter of fact my local dealer told me to buy something that his suppliers couldn't get or didn't know of. He then showed it to his suppliers and made contact with the manufacturer. You don't get this at all the big stores or the computer. The last issue is that buying local helps support your community(schools, fire, rescue, police)thru the taxes that he collects and pays back to the state, cty, etc. He also puts people to work not on unemployment. unless we don't support them.

When I lived in Superior it was the Bait Box. They were right in there with tips and lively bait at competitive prices. Truth to tell, I miss Wisconsin. cool.gif

For the last 20 years, my family has had a cabin on Beltrami north of Bemidji. Bluewater is the farthest Bemidji bait dealer from the cabin, but has the best and freshest bait and is a great local shop. I go there when I can.

In Ely, where I am now, it's Babe's Bait and Tackle, where they trap their own minnows alive and kicking from area streams (though they won't say exactly where those live-wire dace come from). Rock on!

I was out in the East Area of Superior on my route today and I stopped and the Bait Box. Folks all I can say is. You must stop there its a "real bait shop" just looking around was amazing just like the ones I used to go in with my dad when I was a kid.
I had to get a treat, a handful of crappie jigs. I agree we must support our local shops more than the big chains I try to give a little to all.

Big thanks to BLUEWATER in B-town as well...Thanx Mark!

I second Dan's mention of S&W. in my opinion, it's the ONLY place to stop in Brainerd for bait. They have always been helpful getting Toad and I suckers for our annual cat runs.

On that note, I want to throw a plug in to St Cloud Scuba. Chuck has been very busy trying to establish the shop as a great source for live bait. He really came through getting us what we needed when other shops could not.
Stop in and check em out if you have a chance.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
