best auger, blade combo for re-opening holes?

I have an opportunity to buy a new auger, and just wondering what auger/blade combo works best for re-opening holes in a perm? I did try and do a search on the subject, but the search mode wouldn't work for me. Thanks!

My Jiffy Stealth does a really good job, even if they are only frozen 1/2 way down and you don't get centered on them perfectly.

fishingguy, The chipper blades work the best for reopening holes.

I think anything with a chipper blade on it will do fine. I have an old ice king with a single blade chipper, and it reopens old holes great.

No personal experience, but I hear that the SM 224 works well for reopening holes.

I have a older eskimo just for this reopening it has twin chipper blades.

My 224 has worked very well for me.

I have found it very easy to re-open holes in my perm with my Nils Master auger. The center point lets me get it started exactly where I want it and the two blades slice right through the ice.

I got the chance to try opening an 1/2 frozen perm hole this past weekend and was surprised how well the Nils worked. By looking at the blades, one would think that its probably not going to work the best. Boy, was I wrong. It was quite jumpy but it never caught and didn't try to rip itself out of my hands.

The really neat thing about the Nils is the fact that if your first attempt to locate the hole correctly fails, you can just restart your hole.(If you have the newer style blade)

Another issue is auger length. Sons were fishing in portable and set up on a snow free area and had a hard time getting thru with out an extension. I got thru with the Nils with the wheelhouse in the partial up position. (Just barely, but still made it)

I reopened a few holes from last week with my lazer mag 2 blade and had no problem at all...

My SM Mag hasn't had much problems nor has the Nils Master, both seem to work fine IMO.
