New Fish Trap X2

Ride_Red

Recommended Posts

Well went to GM and bought the a X2 fish house yesterday, and just finished the assembley today, overall very impressive, I was torn between the frabill magnum, X2, and Yukon. I was impressed with the X2 after checking the others out. Now I need to get my hands on the hitch, they were sold out...

I like that X2 myself because of the upgrade in the sled material and larger poles. I have the Yukon and sometimes I wish I had the Frabill just because you can get a bigger house for the same price. On my Yukon I have switched the hitch around several times trying to pull from the side with the least amount of holes. My sled is looking like swiss cheese!

The X2 is an awesome set-up. I was glad to see Clam Corp buy out Polar. I use to have a Polar Sport 3-man and I always thought they had the best sleds...and I really like the Clams/FT set-ups but thought they could use a real sled as a base. Now its the best of both worlds. I was checking out the new X2 Thermal fish house. That looks like the cat's meow! I just bought a Yukon last spring (to good of a deal to pass) but I might have to upgrade to the X2 Thermal next year.

They had them on closeout and this year was luckey enough to get there in time, it is 100 miles away for me, and they wont hold anything for you. Now I need to look into some lights and a few mods for it, but it really doesn't need anything other than some dividers to keep your gear neatly in place.

The X2 thermal uses the Voyager sled, not the new X2 sled.

The X2 is coming down in price. I just saw one at GM in St Cloud for 499. I got mine last year at Reeds in Walker for 550 with the hyfax, cover, and hitch 3 days before eelpout and they threw in a 5600 for an extra 225.

The 5600 will connect to the guide. There will just be some left over zipper on the guide side of the trap link. You will need the trap link for the voyager/5600 to make it work, but it does work.

The one thing I dont like about the X2 is that you cant slide the seats very far apart because of the shape of the sled. The one thing I do like about the X2 vs the Yukon is the new pole system but I am not willing to spend the rediculous amount more just to have that. Just my honest opinion. Tub durability may be a concern for those who tow them around a bit

I have and X2 and all I can say is they are strong. I didn't put the cover on (buy one) and was coming off the lake at 30+ mph and it came open. I didn't notice it but my brother behind me said I drove for well over a mile and it looked like a big tent going across the ice. I was all bummed out thinking I bent poles etc. Not a single problem.

I was very impressed.

Do you have the hyfax? I have these on my voyaguer and have no wear on my sled. I almost always pull mine. I have pulled it over bare ice, gravel, and tar. I would recommend the hyfax and rigid hitch to anyone who will pull these houses.

I bought the X2 and I have used it enough to know that it is a very durable house....I am having problems with the tent stiching.......when I put the canvas over the poles I tried to get the most tent from the back to the front so if there was any extra it would be in the porch area..when I was finished assembling I ended up with what looks like stretching corners......like there wasn't enough tent to go over the corners!?! Any body else have this problem????????

The 5600 takes the link for the yukon, x2, guide and the pro. The 6800 uses the link for the voyager and sleeper. If you want to connect a big to a small, like the post said, it is possible, just some leftover fabric.

ok thanks a ton guys! because i really dont think i need the yukon, but on the HSOforum it does not say that the guide will fit the 5600(and i would like to connect them), i understand what you guys are saying though...thanks!

Ozzie I had the same thing but when I looked at the store theirs was loose in the corners also. I wish I would have known that before I stretched it a little and ripped the seam. I didn't rip it bad and it shouldn't be a problem.

Neiko- they got back to me and stated that I have 1 of 2 options....cut off part of the current tarp and send it to them and they will send out a new tarp....or they can send me a new one after I give them my CC# they would charge me then refund me the $ after they recieved their pieces of the current canvas....But I can get a new canvas but I have to put more holes in the tub within a few months of buying it.......I would rather use the current tarp untill it really effects the use of the house then send it to them...but oh well

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
