Big Buck Buster
That sounds like a sweet idea that I might have to put in our new house. Thanks for the idea.. I take it that you are tapping into the running lights on the house???
hawkeye43
Yes, running lights, brake lights, all the lights outside. Man LED's are sweet, but spendy. I just got a new remote that should up to a mile away.
Spazzums08
Hey guys, please check out my thread, Building An Ice House, because I tried reading through the pages of this, and so far I'm on page 6, and I have basically no carpentry knowledge, so all the different kinds of wood measurements (I know what 2x2 or 2x4 means, but I don't know why you would use one against the other, and I couldn't make any sense of the roofing part at all.), so please check out my thread, I'm still trying to decide on a frame. Big Buck Buster
Using a 2x2 frame cuts down on the weight, but be sure to use 2x4 for the corners for stability. Did you check out the frames on fishhouse supply HSOforum? They have a heavily built frame. We are building our own frame with 3000# spindles on each side and 6 leaf leaf springs (3000# each). We haven't decided on 2x4 or 2x3 yet. Hope that helps.

Big Buck Buster
Make sure that the studs are of the load bearing type. They do make the metal studs that are for inner walls that don't carry any load. I almost made that mistake on the last shed that I built. I was thinking of going with the metal studs also, but I don't know if the weight is worth the extra cost.
MuleShack
wont the metal frost thru the walls on the below zero days if you went with metal studs?
Big Buck Buster
I will have to look into that. My dad is a carpenter, and if I ask him, maybe he would know if that will happen or not. If that is a possibility, I won't be going that route. Thanks for the thought.
Lip_Ripper Guy
Yes it will. You need to do some sort of a thermal break, or you will have a constant hassle. I think people do some sort of a real thin foam insulation sheet on the interior of the studs.
deadminnowcatcher
my last house had metal 1" tubing for studs I then took 3/4 furing strips and furred the walls out. No water damage at all
Big Buck Buster
Hey, DMC, how is the wiring going? Are you going to post anymore pics?

I have not run a ground wire to each lite and they work? lites say they ground through the posts? they are screwed into the aluminum siding. Is this ok???? deadminnowcatcher
i am looking for design ideas on the inside. I would like to put a couch style bench in it somewhere
Big Buck Buster
By running a seperate ground you eliminate the possibility of loss of a contact ground to the siding. The siding is going to move slightly while towing, and running a seperate ground eliminates this problem. I did it the same way that you did and had too many ground problems. When I ran a seperate ground(too each stud), I noticed that the lights were brighter and never had any issues after that. I wouldn't do it any other way after that. mediocrates67
as you walk in your door, I would put the bench seat on the far right wall (rear of the trailer). In mine I'll be doing the same and will hinge the top for underneath storage (batteries, forced air furnace, etc.). then you can put another stationary or fold-up bunk above it. if you decide, you can do fold down bunks on the sides as well.what are you putting in the v-front? mine will take up half for a toilet stall and the other will house the oven/stovetop and a shelf for the tv above. then just run the holes on the side walls. mediocrates67
did you do 12 volt and 110? nice to have the option to hook up a generator. did you decide on your heat? what are you doing for a floor plan?you know, you're gonna have to keep posting on this topic for quite awhile...let everyone know after the winter what you like about your house and what you would have done differently. did you know what you were getting into? great thread, can't wait to see new pics. deadminnowcatcher
I ran 110 and 12 volt. I have not bought a heat source yet. Probably will go with a 20,000 btu empire direct vent. Bunks on back wall and kitchen in the v front. Just dropped the house off to be spray foamed. will take pics when i get it back.
nytelyter
for a bench seat i made a futon type couch that will pull out into a full sized bed and bought a good quality futon matress. then i put a drop down (hinged at the bottom) door on the front of it. it you are going to spend any amount of time iniit dont skimp on the matress. you also need to mount a couple of good quality fasteners to keep it in place while travelling. ... paul
fishinalot
Yes, do not skimp on the mattress...I bought two from Fish House Supply that has made it thru my last 2 fish houses (4 years now) and foam is still in great shape. A buddy of mine tried to save $20 a cushion that he got from Milaca Unclaimed freight. He threw both away after one season because of the poor quality. He said after only a few times of use they would bottom out when sleeping because of the cheap foam.

Sandmannd
Very nice so far. I envy you doing that. I wish I had the coin to set one up. Maybe in a few years. But you are doing a great job and it's so nice to see it piece by piece. I'm sure you are helping a lot of DIY'ers get up the nerve to take one of these on.
