Marcum versus Vexilar?

I thought we were talking about Marcum vs. Vexilar? \:\)

You also can't buy ANY Mar cum with a flat screen display viewable from multiple angles...or with a daytime and night-time brightness setting...or with your choice of 3 carrying systems..and so on and so forth. But that's not really what we were talking about, was it??

That was my point; my apologies for not typing more slowly. I could list off all of the Marcum features that competitors don't have, but like I said, they're different units. The comparisons have been done to death as you well know.

Actually, NO. I wasn't. I was specifically addressing BD's mis-statement that Mar cums are the only flashers that include a dual beam 'ducer as a standard feature. I want him to understand that feature is only available on the LX5, and not all Mar cums as he stated.

Couldn't agree with you more. That's why I wanted to make sure that BD was doing a FAIR and TRUHFUL comparison. Based on what he posted he didn't have all his facts straight. I want him to give BOTH units a fair shake. Sigh....maybe it's I that need type more slowly.... tired.gif

FATBASSMAN,

I just went through the same thing and agonized for over a month. Thanks to this site and others help, I decided on the Marcum LX-5. I am just a regular guy buying his first flasher after using some buddies for a couple years. I am not sponsored, nor do I (or did I) have any preconceived opinions going in. Some of the guys at stores said Vex, some Marcum. I just decided on the one with the best features for the money. I don't know if this is any help, but I am very happy with the LX-5. Fished a tourney this weekend and no problems.

I love the soft-case, dual beam, and movable zoom for $479 not $575 for the vex w/ soft case.

Good luck!

Ya man, slow down and relax! I just love watching folks get all worked up on these great debate type posts. I just watch in disbelief as I've graduated from the out dated old school technology of mechanical flashers!!

haha fiskynut i know, these debates get very intense! i honestly think that one company isnt going to cause you to catch a lot more fish than the other. there are arguments for both companies, i have a vexilar fl-8 and i am happy with it, i catch more fish than i did without it. i think people get to worked up about all the new gadgets and the better technology that they forget that its just about catching fish and that the number or size of fish you catch with the units isnt going to be at all different between the companies.

carefull now...I too went through the same thing, i went on this web site and read a lot about the two products. i also went to vexilar and marcum web pages and check out EVERYTHING before i bought the Vexilar FL-20.

The final stage in my decision making process was checking out the prices at the retailers i wanted to make a correction to ALLSPORTS (and other making the cost comparison argument) because both units are basically the same price. look at the different retailers. I'm not suggesting where to go, but Reed's has the vexilar fl-20, pro-pack II with the dual beam for $489 (yes, marcum is $479). If you have the money, the ultra pack is $519 for dual beam...still not $575

Fat Bassman, see what you started! LOL, it happens evertime. I just laugh everytime I see this sort of question, what is better.Ford vs Chevy- Marcum vs Vexilar ect...

But its more of comparing the old Chevy 5.7L to the new Ford 6.4L Twin Turbo Diesel.

:-)

That should get things stirred up.

Better check with Rod and Chad on that..

CNYTim...... "I" never said anything in regards to your statement....I went straight to the guys who fished this tournament and asked for their interference experiences on the ice. Some said they did not have any interference, some said they did but could tune it out. There was also some marcum users who stated that in certain conditions (like the NAIFC) both units may have some interference issues. That is straight from the guys who were there.

I could go on about the brotherhood that is old school Ice Team but it would take way to much space to talk about it here. How many traps have you fished Chad?

I have more respect for the fishers that hit the circuit more than most because they are the best of fisher/friends you could ever want to meet.. What the most important thing about a group of "professionals" that hit this hard every year is that they are just incredible guys and gals. Always willing to chip in and lend a hand, or help you fix something broken, or let you borrow a spare quad, information sharing, it's a family that I will always consider blessed to be associated with.

I could go straight to one one of the teammates of the team that won it all. See as I have posted previously with the Veilar FL-20 he could not pick up his jig at all. Thanks to being prepared and having such a reliable back-up in the MarCum LX-3 that there team didn't miss a beat and came from 9th on Day 1 to win it all on Day 2. Why don't you talk to the champ and question him? I have his addy and I'm sure he'd be glad to talk to you.

Good luck at Reedsburg, you guys should have a hoot.

I simply asked the Vexilar users their experiences and if they had any interference issues during the tournament. Most replied with either they had no issues at all or small issues that could be tuned out. Some stated they had small issues that could not be tuned out but did not hinder their fishing.

We love our Sonars?" If we weren't passionate about our flasher's this wouldn't be worth watching... Fishers here know this

This has been going on in these MarCum vs. Vex debates for a while.

Chad you think will keep doing this into our 70's? crazy.gif

Again, my apologies. By typing more slowly, I simply meant that I will be more careful, and explain my thoughts more clearly.

However, your agressive usage of capatilized letters, boldface print, and underlined phrases for more effective communication is noted as most impressive. And again, I'm not calling you slow, it's taken me a good while to figure out how to use these new fangled buttons and smiley faces. \:\)

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
