Pherris
Just wondering if any FMer's are fisihng as a co angler? I just got confirmation I am confirmed for the Citrus Slam on Kissimess in March and wondering if anyone else from MN will be there?
JP Z
Sweet!!!!!! I was reading in Bob Uzumis mag about a guy who wrote on his experience fishing either those or FLW (don't remember exactly.) But sounds like a hoot..........an expensive hoot, but if you can do it more power to you. There will be a lot of FMers watching the boards for you sir at that event. Congrats! Central Bassman
I would like to but i dont think im going to!!! Did it say how many co-anglers they had so far??
Pherris
I do not know how many slots are filled. I registered through early registration for Citrus Slam on Kissimee and The Battle on The Boarder on Amistad. In checking my registration I am wait listed on Amistad. As far a cost it really wont be that expensive. The entry fee was $750 and I am using frequent flyer miles and my brother inlaw lives there so I will stay with him. Not a bad deal for a gaurantee to fish 2 days with an elite pro and if things work out 3 days. Much cheaper then a guide and far more fun from my perspective. If anyone else is going let me know and we can make some plans to get together.
JP Z
Pherris,You will need to bring all your own gear though correct? That's what I had found. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
Pherris
JPZ, You are correct I do need to bring my gear. I have fished many co angler tournements but I have always been the boater so I will bring what I like my co's to bring 5-6 rods max and one medium tackle bag with plano boxes, snacks, drinks and rain gear. I am shipping all my equipment down UPS ground to my brother in laws ahead of time. He is an also avid tournemnt angelr so if I forget anything or need additional equipment I can just use his. Also I am sure I will be hitting the Bass Pro in Orlando for any last minute items.
JP Z
Cool, And very smart idea to UPS it. I would be worried about flying with my gear..........and only 1 Medium Bag!!!! Wow, that would be difficult.
Central Bassman
Let us know who you guys get to fish with and how everything goes!!! Good Luck
swampbuck
I fished on Lake Norman a few years back as a co-angler/non boater, It is a great experience. I would recommend getting to the registration early you will get to meet a lot of the guys, just grab a table and hang out. Fun to listen to the "dock talk" I would try to fish something different than what your pro is doing, I would hope it is not a spawning/sight fishing bite, makes for a long day when the pro is fishing a bed and you have nothing to fish. I would use small baits, drop shot, jig worm, senko and a rattle trap type bait you may catch some cruisers while they are bed fishing, either way you will have a blast. I fished with Chris Baumgardner and Terry Scroggins, Missed the third day cut by 1/2 lb ended up 14th or 17th? Have a good time and enjoy it.I learned a lot. East Rush Rules
probobly some stupid questions, but do the pro's give you a storage spot to throw your tackle box and what not in the back? and do you have to be there for the practice period? I think it would be an amazing experience to watch these pros first hand for a day!!
Central Bassman
Every pro that I have fish with always has an open boxes for all my stuff. Most of the times it the one right next to the live well so its deep and can hold a lot of stuff.
mamohr686
I fished as a non-boater in an everstart series tournament in the spring time. The only thing I learned is how to back-seat the nonboater. He did it so well, I couldn't even get in a cast. The pro Jim Short placed his boat about 1 ft from the bank and casted forward straight off the nose of the boat. I had the choice of fishing out the back, or off the deep side into no-man's land without structure on a spring bite. If I had to do it over again, I would've brought more spinning equipment along and fished a dropshot or jigworm and hope to drag it over a deep bed that is out of sight. I see that he is fishing the pro side of the FLW series this season. The pro will also expect you to give him a tip or help pay for the fuel expenses for the day. You might want to help out up-front before the day starts and you will be treated better by the pro. Alway be respectful in another man's boat. They live out of their rigs and even if they only keep them for one season, things like sandy shoes, smoking, or slapping your 1/2 oz jig accross their outboad cowl will usually upset the pro and make for a long day of fishing.I fished as a non-boater in the in-fisherman pro walleye, tourney once. It was one of the best experiences i've ever had. I like fishing as a team rather than against the guy in the back of the boat.
polarsusd81
I am looking at fishing a few tourneys this year...mamohr, thanks for the tip on tipping or pitching in for fuel. I was wondering what the standard practice is for that. I am always as respectful as possible in another man's boat, no doubt about that. I think downsizing and fishing differently from what the pro is doing is the only way to bring a decent bag to the tables and it is exactly what I plan to do. One of the tourneys I plan to fish looks like it would be a deep water samllie bite on rocks and the other looks more like a largemouth bite. Either way, fishing with a pro, and absorbing what they do is probably even better than fishing with a guide in my opinion.Question though, if I start popping fish and the pro takes note, and decides to switch to what I am throwing, is it best for me to continue fishing the rigs I am with, or do I switch to something different to show courtesy to the pro? I would think in that circumstance, I would be okay with continuing on my current rigs.

I am very disapointed but there will more chances for me to fish then there will be to be with my mother so I will sit this one out so I can be with her and my famiy. Take care!!
